Continue Reading at GameSpotDimension 20 Abandons D&D's Magical Spellcasters To Go Full Steampunk In Cloudward, Ho
Dropout's Dimension 20 has returned for its 26th season and ninth to feature the main cast of Intrepid Heroes. The tabletop role-playing show is jumping into the steampunk genre for the first time in this campaign, titled Cloudward, Ho. The setting presents an interesting challenge for Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan and players Siobhan Thompson, Ally Beardsley, Brian Murphy, Emily Axford, Zac Oyama, and Lou Wilson, who are sticking with Dungeons & Dragons 5e. Though D&D can be changed and adapted to fit pretty much any genre, mechanically the system is primarily built for extremely magical, high-fantasy stories. And there are traditionally not a lot of fantastical people or straight-up magical wizardry in steampunk, as evident by how Cloudward, Ho's cast are all purposefully limiting themselves to playing as humans and non-spellcasters.
Cloudward, Ho sees two wannabe explorers--one concerned with securing fortune, the other eager to find their long-lost grandmother--teaming up and recruiting four members of a long-disbanded airship crew for one last adventure to find a fabled continent believed to have disappeared in the distant past. The first episode has strong Atlantis: The Lost Empire and Treasure Planet vibes, especially regarding how delightfully absurd many of the characters are.
In the new season, Thompson and Oyama are playing Fighters named Vanellope Chapman and Daisuke Bucklesby, respectively; Beardsley is playing as a Rogue named Olethra Macleod (though Episode 1 feels like it heavily implies Olethra will multiclass into something like Artificer before all is said and done); Axford is playing an Artificer named Marya Junková; Murphy is playing as a Pugilist named Maxwell Gulch; and Wilson is playing a Ranger named Montgomery LaMontgommery. No magic-manipulating Sorcerers, god-worshipping Clerics, or any of D&D's six main spellcaster classes--most of which have been regular picks for a few of the players, like Axford and Beardsley.

One of the unexpected surprises from PlayStation's latest State of Play presentation was a tease of Sony's first official fight stick controller, codenamed "Project Defiant." While details are currently limited, we at least got a glimpse of the fight stick's design, features, and confirmation that it will support both PS5 and PC when it launches in 2026.
The Project Defiant fight stick uses an eight-button layout and a joystick with a black and white color scheme that matches the look of the PS5 and other official peripherals. According to Sony, Project Defiant will feature a "sturdy, ergonomic design for a comfortable feel during intense fight sessions," and support ultra-low latency wireless connections via PlayStation Link or wired connections on PC and PS5.
PlayStation "Project Defiant" Fight StickIt's unclear how moddable the Project Defiant will be, but so far, Sony has confirmed it will have three different movement gates for the joystick--square, circle, or octagon--that can be swapped out without needing tools. There will be a built-in compartment for storing the extra restrictor gates and the included PS Link USB adapter when not in use.

During Wednesday's State of Play, Joker Studio revealed its first gameplay footage of Sea of Remnants. The puppet pirate game takes on simulation/survival/turn-based strategy genres, being a Venn Diagram of all of them.
In Sea of Remnants, you play as an amnesiac sailor who sets off on a voyage alongside a mysterious girl, becoming two travelers with different goals--yet bound to the same path across the sea.
Joker Studio explained the core of the story: "This is an infinite voyage looping between death and rebirth--a journey where we row forward, tirelessly, only to return to where it all began."

Arc System Works, the developer behind countless fighting games, including BlazBlue, Dragon Ball FighterZ, Gran Blue Fantasy, and Guilty Gear, are developing a new fighting game in collaboration with Marvel. Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, is a 4v4 fighting game, set to release sometime in 2026.
Sony and Arc System Works are teaming up with Marvel to bring our favorite superheroes to life in a brand-new fighting game. Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls will reimagine the character with an anime spin--check out the Gundam-style crest on Iron Man's helmet.
Arc is developing Marvel Tokon with a wider audience in mind. "For Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, you only need to master one character in order to play the game," said game director Kazuto Sekine. "We have designed the mechanics in such a way that you can perform a variety of actions with either traditional fighting game inputs or simple inputs. With the press of a few buttons, multiple characters can appear on screen to provide backup or attack together--creating a new and exciting team VS battle experience."

Sony's State of Play on June 5 didn't exclude the company's biggest video game hero of 2024, Astro Bot. The little robot will be back this summer in Astro Bot's five new challenge levels that will raise the number of planets in the game to 90.
In a follow-up post by Team Asobi, four out of the five levels were given names: Twin-Frog Trouble, Suck It Up, Handhold Havoc, and High Inflation. The fifth level is a secret for now. The post also suggested that finishing all 90 planets in the Vicious Void "might lead to something really cool."
Since it's an Astro Bot tradition to introduce new bots, the new levels are no exception. Aside from teasing "a revengeful newcomer," the identities of the new bots are being withheld for now. As with the previous Astro Bot updates, the new DLC will be available for free on July 10.

Giant Squid, the developer behind Abzu and The Pathless, finally showed off Sword of the Sea again with a stunning new trailer during the June 4 State of Play.
The trailer highlighted its thrilling gameplay, which combines the artistic atmosphere of Journey with the gameplay of a skating game as players ride around nature on their aptly named Hoversword. The world of Sword of the Sea is intentionally designed to be very wavy, so players will have lots of opportunities to build the speed and momentum required to pull off a lot of different tricks.
Giant Squid, whose founder actually worked on Journey itself, first teased Sword of the Sea back at a PlayStation Showcase in May 2023. We hadn't seen much of the game since then, but it finally reemerged with this short new trailer at the State of Play. And thankfully, we don't have to wait too much longer in order to actually play it.

As part of Sony's State of Play event, Hitman developer IO Interactive revealed the first trailer for its James Bond game, 007 First Light. The game is coming to PS5 in 2026.
It's the franchise's first-ever origin story, focusing on his early days before he became the iconic super-spy every knows today.
"This is Bond as you've never seen him before--the youngest Bond fans have ever met. In 007 First Light, at only 26 years old, he isn't the fully fledged 007 you know from the tux-and-martini days but a man with sharp instincts, sometimes reckless, who is still learning when to fight, when to bluff, and when to disappear into the shadows," IO Interactive said.

Announced during the February State of Play earlier this year, Digimon Story: Time Stranger reappeared during the June State of Play. The new trailer offered a more detailed look at the RPG's story as well as a release date: October 3.
Time Stranger is the next game in a Digimon RPG series that dates back to 2006 on the Nintendo DS. As the title implies, this new game puts you into the role of a time traveler who has mysteriously been sent back in time eight years, just before a devastating disaster--it seems it's up to you to ensure it doesn't happen, as well as investigate other timeline anomalies. Like the past games, you'll also collect and train Digimon partners, which you'll command in turn-based encounters against enemy Digimon.
The story will take place in both the real and digital worlds, and you'll be able to recruit and train over 450 different digital monsters. As seen in the new trailer, each Digimon has a wealth of options when it comes to customization, too. The full depth of options available is still unclear, but it looks like Time Stranger is shaping up to be an ideal game for folks who want to really dive into the minutia of turn-based combat.

Tides of Tomorrow, from developer DigixArt, is coming to PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S on February 24, 2026. The announcement was made with a special trailer during Sony's State of Play showcase.
DigixArt's first-person adventure game tasks players with surviving on an ocean planet in an experience that's shaped by multiplayer sessions. This asynchronous system has each player, who mysteriously wakes up with no memory, choose another player to follow. The narrative players experience will be related to the choices the other player made.
"Thanks to our 'asynchronous vision' system, you’ll see echoes of this player’s choices and actions, in the form of 'ghosts,'" game director Adrien Poncent wrote in a post. "These visions help you avoid traps, solve puzzles, investigate what happened before, or simply adapt based on the other player’s actions."
