Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is planned to launch on Nintendo Switch sometime this year, but Nintendo is already prepping for next year with a new Metroid 2026 Wall Calendar. The $16 calendar is a piece of official Nintendo merch and will launch on July 15 alongside several other themes based on popular franchises. The cover art for next year's Metroid calendar matches the edition from 2021, which appears to be the most recent Metroid edition.
Metroid Prime 2026 Wall Calendar $16 | Releases July 15The official Metroid 2026 Wall Calendar--and the other full-size Nintendo wall calendars--measure 12 inches by 24 inches when unfolded and is printed on FSC-certified paper with soy-based ink. It covers January to December 2026 in a standard daily grid format like you find on most other wall calendars, and each day offers space for writing notes, appointments, and reminders. There are also labels for official major world holidays and observances, as well as moon phases based on Universal Time. The top half of each month features art and renders from Nintendo franchises, but it's unclear if the Metroid calendar will come with any Prime 4 art.
While the main part of the Nintendo calendars is for 2026, you won't have to wait until next year to use it, as it includes a planning spread section for September to December 2025 that you can use to organize the last few months of this year.
Outside of the Metroid calendar, Amazon is taking preorders for 2026 wall calendars based on Super Mario, Donkey Kong, Pokemon, and more. There's a modern Super Mario edition featuring 3D character art as well as an 8-bit edition from the plumber's days spent hopping through stages on the NES. The Super Mario Bros. 8-Bit Retro 2026 Wall Calendar includes six die-cut notecards that can be folded to create 3D models of enemies from the original NES game: Blooper, Lakitu, Cheep Cheep, Hammer Bros., Spiny, and Buzzy Beetle.
Multiple Pokemon calendars are up for preorder, including mini and full-size wall calendars as well as the Pokemon Day-to-Day 2026 Calendar. This $18 desktop calendar features art from the Pokemon Horizons anime.
With the exception of the Pikmin edition, which releases August 19, all of the 2026 Nintendo calendars release July 15.

The Destiny 2 Past Is Prologue event, which precedes the arrival of Episode: Heresy, kicks off next week. The event, announced in today's This Week in Destiny, will be centered around Eris and the Drifter. Developer Bungie says that those who played Riven's Wishes last year will find a familiar flow once more, starting on January 21.
Starting at the Tuesday reset, you can visit the Drifter to grab quests that will reward you with the Bento Tokens currency. You can then exchange them for rewards over at Eris. You'll be able to earn a total of eight Bento Tokens throughout the event.
The event offers a promising incentive via its rewards, providing alternative means of getting a number of gear and currency items normally locked to certain activities. You can get your hands on Spoils of Conquest, which are only obtained when completing raid encounters, Adept weapons outside of high difficult nightfalls and raids, and Artifice armor without the need to tackle Master dungeons. In addition, the Chatterwhite shader is returning for Past Is Prologue. Once you've gotten five Bento Tokens, you'll unlock the shader for your collection.

Baldur's Gate 3 is getting one last big update in Patch 8, which will introduce cross-play between all consoles, PC, and even Mac. But before Larian puts the latest patch through a stress test with players, the developer has shared more details about what to expect.
Photo mode and 12 new subclasses are among the new features that stand out in Patch 8. There are also a number of bug fixes and in-game mod improvements. Larian's latest update notes that there have been 100 million mod downloads to date. The company also promised that more mods are being approved for console players.
Mac players also have new minimum specs for Baldur's Gate 3. Larian now suggests that Mac users update their system to macOS 14 (version 14.7.1) or later. Older Macs that can't be updated to that level can still play Baldur's Gate 3 through Patch 6.

Longtime PlayStation executive Shuhei Yoshida retired from the company on January 15, and as part of his departure, he sat down for a lengthy interview to discuss a range of topics pertaining to his time at the gaming giant. One story that stood out from his chat with Kinda Funny was about the one PlayStation game that didn't sell as well as expected.
He said during interview (via Radec) that Horizon Forbidden West, a sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn, was the one game he was surprised to see come up short commercially, relatively speaking.
"The one I was a bit surprised in terms of the number of units was the second Horizon game. I loved the first Horizon game and the game did well, and I was hoping the second game would do even better in terms of sales. The game was bigger and great but I don't think the second game did as many units as the first one," he said.

Sony has provided audiences with another look at its upcoming Until Dawn film the release of the film's first trailer trailer showing the cast of unlucky characters facing off with masked slashers, corpse-like creatures, and skin burrowing bugs.
The trailer follows an earlier glimpse at the footage which was brief but gave viewers a good idea of the jumpscares to come.
Though the film has a new cast and doesn't follow the exact plot of the game, Peter Stormare's Dr. Hill does reprise his role, providing a connection to the film's gaming roots. But the game's all-star cast (which included the likes of Hayden Panettiere, and Rami Malek, among others) has been refreshed with Odessa A'zion, Ella Rubin, and Maya Mitchell stepping into starring roles.

After countless leaks and rumors, Nintendo finally formally unveiled the Switch 2 with a surprise video today on social media. The hybrid console is bigger, has magnetic Joy-Cons, and yes, a new Mario Kart is seemingly on the way. However, this reveal comes across as overly corporate, bland, and lacking a basic sense of joy that should accompany the introduction of a brand-new video game system.
There isn't a human in sight for the first look at Switch 2. Instead, the majority of the two-and-a-half minute video features an off-white background and CGI animation to showcase how Switch 2 differs from the original Switch. Clearly, Nintendo doesn't want a Wii U situation on its hands, spelling out clearly that Switch 2 isn't some add-on to the original and will replace the previous system. However, the teaser feels too much like a basic upgrade trailer--way too similar to the New Nintendo 3DS XL first look, for example--than shouting out Switch 2 is the next generation of Nintendo gaming.
Look, Nintendo is in a much better space, financially and culturally, than it was in late 2016 when the original Switch was unveiled. However, that reveal trailer feels so much more full of life (thanks to actual people being present) and creativity than what we experienced today. The Switch introduction video begins with a man playing The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild on his TV screen, before quickly snapping to the Switch logo and to show how he can take the system on the go. The hook of the system is showcased up front as the guy brings the Switch with him to take his dog to a park in the early morning. While unconfirmed, if Metroid Prime 4: Beyond works or even has better visuals on Switch 2, maybe showing that anticipated game on Switch 2 could have provided a similar sense of awe or at least an idea of the system's technical prowess.

Nintendo historically holds Nintendo Direct briefings in February, and it seems that tradition will continue this year. Podcaster NateTheHate has reported that Nintendo will host a Nintendo Direct event focused on games for the original Switch sometime next month.
He said this during the same podcast where he correctly predicted the Nintendo Switch 2 reveal event would take place on January 16. Brazilian journalist Pedro Henrique Lutti Lippe backed up this reporting (via VGC), saying a Nintendo Direct for Switch 1 games is coming in February.
As for what games Nintendo could highlight if it does indeed host a Nintendo Direct in February, that's anyone's guess, but some possibilities include Pokemon Legends: Z-A, Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition, and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, among other possibilities.

After months of rumors, the Nintendo Switch 2 was finally announced earlier this morning. Nintendo's new console will be directly competing with the power of PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. But according to one analyst, Nintendo has already avoided a costly mistake that hampered the launch of Sony and Microsoft's last systems.
Sanford C. Bernstein analyst Robin Zhu told Bloomberg that Nintendo has a supply chain lined up for Switch 2's launch that should keep the chip shortage of 2020 from repeating itself. Zhu also noted that Nintendo's supply chain may allow the company to sell 20 million Switch 2 consoles in 2025. Earlier this month, Circana analyst Mat Piscatella predicted that Switch 2 will sell 4.3 million consoles in the US alone this year.
The intense interest in the Switch 2 reveal suggests that there is a significant demand for the new system, but it will have a long way to go before matching the original Switch's lifetime sales of 146 million to date. Switch 2's price point may also determine how quickly it's adopted by players. For now, Nintendo hasn't shared details about how much the console will cost.

Popular indie FPS Fortune's Run won't be seeing any updates for a while--about three years, to be precise, as that's how long its sole developer, known only as Dizzie, will be spending behind bars.
"I have some stuff going on I need to make public as it's going to interrupt development," Dizzie shared in a post on the game's Steam page. "I've been sentenced to prison for the next three years. It's a long story, but I've lived a very different life before I was a game developer, and I wasn't living very well."
"My case is about five years old now, I have been going through the legal process the whole time I've been working on this," he added. "I have finally been found guilty and sentenced, and I'm going away next month. It's a shame, but it's the consequences of my actions."
Continue Reading at GameSpotWhy Some Believe The Switch 2 May Not Launch Until June
The Nintendo Switch 2 has finally been announced, but Nintendo's reveal trailer didn't confirm a release date for the console beyond sometime in 2025. However, some believe they've worked out when the system may be released, and it might not be until June.
Nintendo also announced a "Switch 2 Experience" event where fans can try the console, kicking off on April 4 (just after the April 2 Nintendo Direct) and wrapping up on June 1 in Seoul. Given that, people are theorizing that Nintendo wouldn't launch the Switch 2 until later in June. There are also Switch 2 Experience events for Hong Kong and Taipei with dates to be announced later.
A June launch for the Switch 2 is not confirmed, however. Nintendo's announcement of the Switch 2 Experience never says that fans attending the event get to play the system before it launches, though that is the expectation.

Sony has had no problem remastering games for PS5, whether that's Demon's Souls at launch or even The Last of Us: Part II Remastered last year. However, Bloodborne continues to go untouched and still hasn't received a PC port. Former PlayStation executive Shuhei Yoshida has a theory about why that might be.
Appearing on the Kinda Funny Gamescast, Yoshida admitted that he gets more questions about Bloodbourne on social media than almost any other game. While Yoshida isn't employed at Sony any longer, he still offered up his thoughts on why a remaster hasn't happened, per X user Shinobi602. "[Hidetaka] Miyazaki-san really, really loved Bloodborne, what he created," Yoshida said. "So I think he is interested but he's so successful and so busy, so he can not do it himself. But he doesn't want anyone else to touch it. So that's my theory and the PlayStation team respects his wish."
Shuhei Yoshida talks about Bloodborne and why he thinks Sony hasn't done anything with it yet:
"Miyazaki-san really really loved Bloodborne, what he created. So I think he is interested but he's so successful and so busy so he can not do it himself and he doesn't want anyone… pic.twitter.com/qWbx5ZMEKv
Intriguingly, developer From Software has openly expressed that it wants to see Bloodborne on PC. Miyazaki even stated he's not opposed to a PC port but added: "If I say I want one, I'll get in trouble as well." Now, a bit of Bloodborne did come to PS5 recently, but probably not in the way you think. Astro Bot offers a Bloodborne-themed skin as part of its Digital Deluxe Edition.
Continue Reading at GameSpotWhy The PlayStation Vita Failed, According To Former Sony Exec
Former PlayStation executive Shuhei Yoshida left the company recently, and he has been sharing some thoughts on the game industry and the PlayStation brand, such as why the PlayStation Vita trailed behind in popularity with competitors like the Nintendo 3DS.
In a new interview, he said that there was a combination of factors that lead the Vita to sell poorly. One reason was its proprietary memory cards. They were incredibly expensive and just added more costs for the consumer. While the PSP had the proprietary memory sticks, players were also able to use micro SD cards with an adapter.
In addition to the beautiful OLED screen, the Vita also had a back touchpad. While it provided some clever mechanics and gimmicks for some games, it was ultimately unnecessary. Both the OLED screen and touchpad further contributed to costs. One feature that was removed from the final product was a video-out option, which was present in the development kit version.

Nintendo finally, formally took the wraps off the Nintendo Switch 2, giving us our first official look at the new Joy-Con controllers, a new Mario Kart game, and more. But the company also gave us a glimpse at how the size compares to the older Switch system.
A comparison on the official site shows the two consoles side-by-side, and sure enough, the Switch 2 looks noticeably larger, but still approximately the same size as other handheld devices like the original Switch or Steam Deck. The bezel also appears smaller, which increases the screen real estate. A recent recent leak from accessory manufacturer Genki suggested the Switch 2 would be about one inch wider and a half-inch taller, with a 1-inch increase in screen size. While the side-by-side comparison on the official site may not be intended as an exact 1:1 representation, it looks like it would roughly fit those specs.
Switch and Switch 2 side-by-side comparisonThe trailer also made a point to show the larger screen when it popped out from the old Switch profile. Similarly, when the Joy-Cons transition from the old to new models, they look noticeably larger.

Nintendo has seemingly revealed what looks like a brand-new Mario Kart game for the Switch 2 in the console's trailer.
Near the end of the Switch 2's reveal trailer, Mario Kart footage of Mario, Luigi, Bowser, Donkey Kong, Peach, and Toad driving through a desert track can be seen with a sign that says "Yoshi," which looks to be some sort of restaurant or gas station.
While the trailer didn't confirm whether this is an entirely original Mario Kart game as opposed to another expanded port of Mario Kart 8, there's some new details that people have picked up on. It looks like Donkey Kong's character model in this game was inspired by the character's look in the Super Mario Bros. movie. Based on the starting lines of the race, it looks as if up to 24 racers can be included.
