Far Cry TV Show Featuring Always Sunny And Alien Earth Talent Reportedly In Development
It looks like Far Cry will be the next high-profile video game series getting a TV adaptation, as Ubisoft confirmed the news on its official site before quickly deleting the post. This being the internet, nothing is ever truly deleted, no matter how briefly it's online for, and the original announcement has been preserved.
Over on Reddit, those people who did manage to see the original announcement say that the show will star Rob Mac--the Always Sunny in Philadelphia actor who recently changed his name from Rob McElhenney--and he'll also produce the series alongside Noah Hawley (Alien: Earth), Jackie Cohn, Michael Garcia, and Nick Frenkel. On the Ubisoft side, Gerard Guillemot, Margaret Boykin, and Austin Dill are also attached in various roles, and the series is reportedly in development at FX.
"This collaboration is really an embarrassment of riches," Boykin reportedly said in the removed post. "Far Cry is a psychological tailspin that doesn't shy away from the darkest and most absurd parts of humanity, which aligns perfectly with FX's bold and fearless storytelling style."

Weekends are usually the busiest time for a new game release, and the Battlefield 6 open beta was--fortunately--no exception to that rule. Once the game switched from early access to open beta, the numbers soared and Battlefield 6 reached an impressive peak of 521,079 concurrent players (via SteamDB). A second open beta is scheduled for August 14-17, and if you're planning to play on PS5, there's an exclusive skin you can claim if you choose to purchase the game later this year.
To put that into perspective, Call of Duty HQ, which includes Call of Duty: Warzone and Black Ops 6, peaked at 67,595 players on Steam during the weekend, and Battlefield 6 surpassed the free-to-play game's all-time peak of 491,670 concurrent players. Console numbers haven't been revealed yet, but it's highly likely that quite a few people grabbed a free download of the beta so that they could join in on the action.
While this is a cause for high-fives at EA, it remains to be seen just how much of the buzz from the Battlefield 6 open beta will translate into actual sales of the game. Battlefield 6 is also going up against its old rival Call of Duty this year, and Activision's annual series is expected to be one of the best-selling games of 2025. Since the Activision-published game will also be a day-one release through Xbox Game Pass, it'll also have a sizable advantage over Battlefield 6.

With work on Death Stranding 2: On the Beach complete, all eyes are on the next game from Kojima Productions, OD. Also known as Overdose, OD is one of several games from Hideo Kojima and his team at Kojima Productions that we know about, and it's being made in partnership with Xbox Game Studios. Kojima has kept most details on OD under wraps, allowing the brief reveal trailer to do the talking for him and get fans of his work speculating on what he's cooking up right now. A few other details on the game have been revealed since it was first announced during the 2023 edition of The Game Awards. Here's a closer look at everything we know about OD so far.
When will OD be released?A release date for OD hasn't been revealed yet, and we're expecting this game to be in incubation for a few more years before it sees the light of day. Kojima, who is now in his 60s, is keenly aware that he can only remain active in game development for as long as his body and mind holds out, but the veteran developer has promised to stay creative for as long as he is physically able to do so.
OD trailer OD platformsSince OD is a collaborative project between Kojima Productions and Xbox Game Studios, it's likely that we'll see it launch first on PC and Xbox Series X|S. The good news is that Microsoft has adopted a new multiplatform strategy for its first-party releases, so it's possible the game will launch elsewhere, too.

Fortnite's New Season Features Some Wild Mobility
Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 4: Shock N' Awesome has added a number of new features, characters, and quirks to the long-running game. But perhaps one of the most disruptive additions is the Springleg medallion, which brings some wild mobility to Fortnite. In the clip below, one player uses that medallion to leap around another player as if he was a cartoon character.

The clip was shared online by a Reddit user going by jhhxft, who compared the other player to Bugs Bunny. Meanwhile, YouTube user JoeyPorsche shared a video of the Springleg and Surge medallions used in conjunction with each other.
It's unclear how these mobility options will be received by regulars, or if Epic Games will feel the need to tweak the abilities of the Springleg medallion in the future.

It's a day ending with "y," so you know what that means: more Call of Duty datamines and leaks. This time around, the community has found that preordering Black Ops 7 will resurrect Reznov, a classic villain from the series' past--in the form of an operator skin, at least.
CharlieIntel, a page well-known for publishing details on the Call of Duty games, shared a pair of posts sourced from Twitter users HeyImAlaix and Reality that seemed to corroborate the news. According to the posts, players who preorder Black Ops 7 will immediately unlock the SOG Reznov skin for use in Black Ops 6 and Warzone's latest season.

It is unclear if these skins or challenges will be made available to players by any other means. The skins appear to reference appearances of Viktor Reznov in previous games: Stalingrad Reznov seems to be a callback to Reznov's first appearance in 2008's Call of Duty: World at War, while Memory Reznov would reference his role in 2010's Call of Duty: Black Ops.

Roblox is secretly the most popular game around. This May, the Roblox game "Grow a Garden" surpassed seven million concurrent users--but Roblox itself has been hugely popular, especially with kids, for years. Case in point: YouTube revealed today that Roblox-related videos have surpassed 1 trillion views. Trillion.
To celebrate the momentous number, YouTube has launched a Roblox Museum within Roblox, which the company describes as "a virtual space where anyone can go to visit over 100 special relics, each representing a key creator moment from over the years." YouTube and Roblox debuted within a year of each other, YouTube notes, and so Roblox videos have been a part of YouTube for almost its entire lifetime. If you don't play Roblox but want to check out the museum, YouTube released a preview hosted by Roblox content creators Lanaslifeee and MeEnyu.
For those who want to check out the museum for themselves, you can also hop directly to the museum's landing page on Roblox. The museum also features a scavenger hunt that will reward you with an exclusive in-game item.

The Sims is one of gaming's biggest cross-over hits, appealing to a wide audience of fans of all ages and demographics. Soon, the series will be playable in a whole new way with the official The Sims Board Game, which adapts the life management gameplay of the video games into a replayable tabletop experience for 2-5 players. The game technically launches for $20 on August 15--though Target is already shipping orders, so there's a chance you could get it early if you grab it there. Preorder are also open at Amazon, and orders will start shipping next week. $20 is much cheaper than we usually see for similar board games based on other board games. Given the popularity of The Sims, we expect this will be very popular and could sell out, so be sure to grab a copy while you can.
The Sims Board Game $20 | Releases August 15While The Sims Board Game is not a one-to-one adaptation, fans will recognize the game's familiar visuals and life-sim-style gameplay. The board game is designed for 2-5 players, each of whom takes on a personality and goal to achieve. Players then explore a gameboard that looks like an iconic The Sims neighborhood, draw cards representing various life events they must respond to, and collect "SIMbols," with the goal being to be the first to collect enough SIMbols that match their specific life goal.

Earlier this summer, Hideo Kojima released his latest game, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. While Kojima is already working on his next title, fans shouldn't get their hopes up about his new stealth-action game Physint arriving anytime soon. According to Kojima himself, most of the work on Physint hasn't exited the earliest stage of development.
Kojima told IndieWire that he is "starting to work with the team on OD, because that's a new project." He then added that he is "doing Physint all by myself because that's at the conceptual stage."
Physint was first announced during the January 2024 State of Play broadcast, and it was described as using "cutting-edge" technology to create a hybrid game and movie experience. Kojima subsequently revealed that the origin of the game came from players' desire to revisit the stealth-action-espionage genre that he helped create in the Metal Gear Solid franchise.
Continue Reading at GameSpotClair Obscur: Expedition 33 Is Great, But Its Popularity Raises Big Questions About How We View Japanese RPGs
When I first saw it at the 2024 Xbox Games Showcase, I was surprised to see a game from a French developer with the photorealism of Western RPGs and mechanical stylings of Japanese ones. Its polished, cinematic trailer gave the impression of a AAA game, even though I'd never even heard of Sandfall Interactive at the time.
Clair Obscur moved mountains. Despite its launch on the same weekend as Oblivion Remastered, it sold 500,000 copies within 24 hours and 1 million after three days. It's still maintaining the discourse and curiosity of the games community months later--something that you'd think only a title from a more experienced studio could do. It's all for good reason, of course--it's a great game. We even rated it a 9/10 in our Clair Obscur review.
In many ways, its critical and commercial triumph has been encouraging. We should have a wide range of RPGs made by people from different backgrounds, and we should have more turn-based RPGs. However, Clair Obscur's success also magnified criticisms of Japanese turn-based games, only some of which are deserved. Finally, the haters said, a turn-based RPG that is actually good--as if those don't already exist.

Rod Fergusson is leaving Blizzard after five years. In his time at the studio, Fergusson has primarily acted as the general manager and face of the Diablo series, overseeing a resurgence of sorts for Blizzard's storied action-RPG franchise.
Fergusson announced his departure via Twitter, saying, "After five years of driving the Diablo franchise forward with four big launches, it's time for me to step away from Blizzard/Microsoft, sword in hand, and see what's next. The teams are set up for success, with an exiting slate of releases ahead. I'm incredibly proud of what we've built together and looking forward to what comes next for Diablo, and for me."
Fergusson came to Blizzard in 2020 after a long stint at The Coalition, the Xbox-owned studio that primarily works on Gears of War, a series that he has been working on, sporadically, since close to its inception. Back in the day, Fergusson came onto the original Gears of War and shepherded its final stretch of development. Fergusson would go on to have a hand in most games in the series--and briefly helped Irrational Games on BioShock Infinite--before departing for Blizzard.

Nintendo has filed a new patent application that suggests an interesting new way to play. The patent filed with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) shows a crank-like device built to attach to the side of a game controller, allowing you to crank up the fun. Eh?
The description of the patent goes into detail about the mouse-operation sensor and how the peripheral could attach to a recessed surface in the controller with a mouse operation sensor, which may suggest it could attach directly onto the Switch or Switch 2 Joy-Cons. Then with the crank attached you could explore the many possibilities of crank-based gameplay, from fishing games to probably a second thing.
World Intellectual Property OrganizationWhile fairly novel, this wouldn't be the first example of a video game device with a crank. The indie handheld hardware Playdate has a crank and developers and homebrew artisans alike have been coming up with various applications for it. And Nintendo did once make a cardboard crank with Nintendo Labo, so the company is no stranger to cranks.

Director Zach Cregger's latest horror film, Weapons, only just premiered in theaters this week, yet preorders for the Limited Edition Steelbook 4K Blu-ray release are already available from multiple online retailers. There's no release date yet, but most Blu-rays launch about three months after a film's theatrical run, so it'll likely be a while before this one is released. However, if the movie's early popularity is any indication, this could sell out fast, so it's worth preordering now if you're interested.
Weapons Limited Edition Steelbook 4K Blu-ray $38 | Release Date TBAThe Weapons Limited Edition Steelbook 4K Blu-ray includes 4K Blu-ray, standard Blu-ray, and digital copies of the film in a steelbook case featuring the glow of 2:17 on an alarm clock on the cover, and (even creepier) interior artwork. Unfortunately, no official details have been released beyond that, though we expect it'll support Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision, and likely will include several bonus features. We'll update this section when more details are made public.
Amazon and Gruv currently have the steelbook listed at $38, while Walmart has it at $44.25. We expect Walmart's price will likely change to match Amazon and Gruv. The good news is, preordering at Amazon and Walmart means you'll only pay the lowest amount if the price changes before launch, and you are only charged when the item ships.

What begins as an investigation of the school teachers, faculty, and parents spirals into something much stranger and more sinister. The film has already garnered high praise from critics and audiences, adding to an already strong year for horror movies.
The Weapons Limited Edition Steelbook likely won't arrive for several months, so if you need something to keep you busy until then, consider picking up another horror flick on 4K Blu-ray. The new 4K Steelbook Edition of Late Night With The Devil recently launched on August 5 and is available for $40 at Amazon. At long last, Titan Quest 2 is here in early access on PC, and as you'd expect, developer Grimlore Games is planning to add more content to the action-RPG as it builds up to its full release. So what's chiseled into the marble slab right now? In a press release, the studio said that players can expect major content updates every three months, and while multiplayer isn't available in Titan Quest 2 yet, it is coming soon.
Additionally, a brand-new chapter with new areas, enemies, and challenges will be coming to the game alongside a character editor. An all-new Mastery is being added as well, and on a technical level, support for more languages is also in development. Future updates will include the following additions to the game:
Titan Quest 2 early-access roadmap- New chapters
- New items
- New enemies
- New bosses
- New quests
- New Masteries
- Crafting
- Improved multiplayer
In a FAQ video, lead systems designer Balint Marczin also answered several questions about the game. Marczin confirmed that the studio is targeting the end of 2026 for the full release, and there are plans in place to bring Titan Quest 2 to PlayStation and Xbox consoles after the early-access period ends. Grimlore Games isn't planning to add any mounts to the game as it clashes with the pacing, traversal, and other mechanics of the game, and there are currently no plans for PvP. As for the Titan Quest 2 endgame, Marczin says the current focus is on delivering a "polished and replayable campaign," but there is some work being done on endgame designs.

Nintendo has announced a new product line for young children called My Mario, which will be released on August 26, available only in Nintendo stores in Japan at the moment. The My Mario series includes fun toys, books, games, and more, all featuring Mario and his friends, with more items being added down the line. What's more, it will feature what appears to be the spiritual successor to a delightful "game" from the past.
Nintendo gave a sneak preview of some of the times that will be readily available: a set of wooden blocks shaped like Mario, Luigi, and other familiar items from Mario's world. What makes these blocks interesting is that they also work as Amiibo figures, so kids can use them in certain Nintendo Switch games to unlock extra features or characters.
It's a Mario block party.GalleryAnother product in the series is a board book called Hello, Mario! which is designed for parents and kids to read together. The book has fun parts that children can touch and move, like opening Mario's mouth or turning his face. There will also be a free app for smartphones and a game for the Nintendo Switch that lets kids play by pulling or turning Mario's face on the screen. If you're old enough, you may remember being able to do something similar on Super Mario 64's home screen.
