Thu, 10/09/2025 - 10:40

Amazon's Prime Big Deal Days event is in its final hours, but if you act fast, you can still grab some awesome discounts on Blu-rays starring Marvel's web-slinging hero Spider-Man. There are quite a few deals to take advantage of, including multi-film collections of various live-action incarnations of Peter Parker, to the animated Spider-Verse flicks featuring Miles Morales. We've rounded up all the Spider-Man Blu-ray deals below--just remember that Amazon's event only lasts until October 8, so these discounts are ending soon.

Spider-Man: The Raimi Trilogy (4K)

Kicking things off are the original live-action movies starring Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man. The 4K box set is on sale for $41.50 (was $45), while the Blu-ray version of the collection is just $19 (was $35). Both versions get you all three films released from 2002 through 2007. They also include a long list of special features for all three movies.

Years after Raimi's trilogy, Spider-Man was rebooted with Andrew Garfield under the mask. While The Amazing Spider-Man movies aren't as highly regarded as Raimi's films, they still offer an interesting spin on Spidey's universe. You can get both movies in a 4K bundle that's on sale for $25 (was $50). Not that this is a barebones collection with minimal special features; yhe focus here is purely on the films.

The latest live-action version of the hero comes from Marvel's official Cinematic Universe, and sees Tom Holland don the iconic red suit. All three films in the series so far--Homecoming, Far From Home, and No Way Home--are available individually as 4K Blu-rays, but you can also grab the entire trilogy in a Blu-ray box set that's on sale for just $23 (was $56). Regardless of which versions you pick up, each film comes with a solid selection of special features, including exclusive short films, deleted scenes, documentaries, and behind-the-scenes content.

As for the other ongoing cinematic Spider-Man series, both Spider-Verse movies are available on 4K Blu-ray. The easiest way to grab both is with the Amazon-exclusive Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Across the Spider-Verse 4K Blu-ray bundle that's on sale for $36 (was $45). However, you can also grab them standalone if this collection sells out. Battlestar Galactica: The Complete Series is discounted to $51.49, nearly 50% off its $100 list price. The Blu-ray box set collects all four seasons of the reboot series. Battlestar Galactica: Prime Big Deal Days See all Battlestar Deals Battlestar Galactica: The Complete Series on Blu-ray (2004) $51.49 (was $100)

The 21-disc Blu-ray box set collects all 76 episodes that aired on Syfy (then Sci-Fi Channel) from 2003 to 2009. The collection also comes with the two TV films released during its run: Battlestar Galactica: Razor and The Plan, which served as the series finale. Each episode and movie is displayed in its original aspect ratio in 1080p HD and supports DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround sound.

All four seasons and The Plan are accompanied by a ton of bonus content, including documentaries, behind-the-scenes featurettes, web series episodes, mini episodes, audio commentaries, and a bunch more.

This reimagining of Battlestar Galactica kept the basic plot of the original series and detailed how the remnants of humanity were in a desperate fight for survival against the synthetic Cylon race. After the Cylons succeeded in wiping out billions of humans who had colonized a cluster of planets, the survivors flee to the Battlestar Galactica and begin a long trek in search of a fabled thirteenth colony known as Earth.

Despite its low-budget beginnings, Battlestar Galactica quickly earned rave reviews for its high-quality production, ensemble cast, and its examination of what it means to be human amidst several other high-level concepts.

Battlestar Galactica: The Remastered Collection includes all 24 episodes from the original 1978-79 series as well as the 10-episode sequel series Galactica 1980. The remastered version updates the original run to 1080p with a widescreen aspect ratio.

The 8-disc box set includes three hours of deleted scenes, a 45-minute documentary on Battlestar's legacy, and featurettes with commentary from series creator Glen Larson and composer Stu Phillips.

As mentioned, you can also save on the DVD box set, if you'd like to revisit the series in its original form.

See at Amazon Battlestar Galactica 3-Part Pilot on 4K Blu-ray (Saga of a Star World) $12 (was $30)

If you want to see where it all started in 4K resolution, the original Battlestar Galactica movie is on sale for $13 (was $30) at Amazon. This 4K Blu-ray released in 2023, and it's a rather interesting release. The "movie" is a modified version of the original's three-part pilot, Saga of a Star World.

Battlestar Galactica debuted theatrically in Canada before the pilot even aired in the United States. For longtime Battlestar fans, this is a cool way to watch a re-edited version of the pilot in 4K resolution for the first time. Just keep in mind that Saga of a Star World is included in The Remastered Collection on standard Blu-ray. In any case, the 4K edition is only $12, which is the best price we've seen.

Magic: The Gathering's Head Designer Admits He's Still Trying To Like The Commander Format

Thu, 10/09/2025 - 07:27

Mark Rosewater, head designer for Magic: The Gathering at Wizards of the Coast, has designed cards for all of Magic's playable formats. At MagicCon Atlanta, during a question and answer session with press, Rosewater spoke candidly about his experience with the game, including one interesting tidbit: He's not a fan of Commander, the most popular format currently available to MTG players.

One question Rosewater received was about player fatigue with Universes Beyond--Magic's regular collaborations with outside intellectual property. Rosewater said he understands players who aren't fully on-board with the crossover sets, because he isn't fully on-board with some of the other popular things Magic is doing--especially the Commander format.

Marvel Super Heroes, Magic's next Marvel-themed expansion.

"I'm not a Commander fan," Rosewater said. "To me, Magic is a strategic game. I love it because I win when I'm outthinking my opponent. Commander is not a strategic game. It is a political game; you're playing the people."

The Minds Behind Magic: The Gathering Say They're Making It For Anyone, Not Everyone

Thu, 10/09/2025 - 07:18

There's a simple mantra that permeates every interview or question and answer session conducted during the MagicCon weekend: Magic is for everyone, but that doesn't mean everyone's going to love everything the team puts out. While universal acclaim would be great, the creative teams say that this simply isn't possible.

At MagicCon Atlanta, two key panels laid bare the company's short- and long-term plans for the decades-old card game. The Preview Panel announced all but one of the expansions coming to the game in 2026--four of which will be Universes Beyond collaboration sets--while the Secret Lair panel announced over a dozen new limited-time drops set to launch throughout the month of October, featuring names like Jaws, Furby, Iron Maiden, The Office, and multiple PlayStation franchises.

While the reaction in the room for these panels was marked with excitement, the deluge of Universes Beyond collaborations mixed in with the in-universe Magic fans love led to a fair bit of trepidation among the fanbase. One viral post from a competitive Magic player leaned heavily on the in vogue insult "slop," while the YouTube content creation community made their thoughts known acros smultiple videos.

Devs Behind Canceled Xbox MMO Blackbird Game Launch A New Studio With A Great Name

Thu, 10/09/2025 - 06:51

Earlier this year, Microsoft unleashed a massive wave of layoffs and game cancellations, including Project Blackbird, an MMO that was described as a cross between Cyberpunk 2077 and Destiny from the team behind The Elder Scrolls Online. Now, that team has reunited to form an employee-owned studio, Sackbird Studios.

The studio shared the announcement on its official site, and noted that Sackbird is self-funded "for multiple years" without the aid of outside investors. That will allow the team to retain full creative control of their own games.

"After years in AAA, we wanted the freedom to take smart risks without waiting for a greenlight or chasing quarterly targets, said Sackbird Studios chief creative officer David Worley in a statement. "We're fully employee-owned and funded, which means we only answer to people who are passionate about games."

Ubisoft Canceled Civil War-Based Assassin's Creed Over Controversy Concerns - Report

Thu, 10/09/2025 - 06:35

Ubisoft reportedly canceled an entry in the Assassin’s Creed franchise last year after determining that its proposed setting--the American Civil War and the Reconstruction era of the 1860s and 1870s--was too controversial for its audience, according to the newsletter Game File.

The game, which was canceled early in development, would have put players in control of a Black protagonist who escaped enslavement and started a new life away from the South. He is later recruited by the Assassins, returns to the South, and confronts prominent racist groups like the Ku Klux Klan.

Three sources told Game File that the game was cancelled due to online backlash after the reveal of Yasuke, a historically-inspired Black samurai, as a protagonist in Assassin’s Creed Shadows and the uneasy political climate in the United States. Developers working on the project were upset, believing that the company was giving in to perceived controversy.

Baby Steps Punishes You In The Funniest Way If You Skip Too Many Cutscenes

Thu, 10/09/2025 - 06:11

Literal walking simulator Baby Steps is already a punishing affair, but the game has one last trick up its sleeve that might make certain players fume with rage.

If you skip enough cutscenes in the wacky and raunchy Baby Steps, you'll be treated (or penalized, depending how you look at it) with a meandering 28-minute long cutscene full of meta jokes and haphazard conversation topics, which user Cuttyflame shared on YouTube (per PC Gamer).

Baby Steps, which was made by Ape Out developers Gabe Cuzzillo, Maxi Boch, and QWOP creator Bennett Foddy, actively discourages players you skipping story cutscenes, requiring you to complete minigames that increase in complexity each subsequent time you try to skip a scene.

Company Of Heroes Dev Wants To Release Games Faster But Isn't Going All In On AI

Thu, 10/09/2025 - 06:10

Company of Heroes developer Relic Entertainment is keen to make and release games faster, CEO Justin Dowdeswell said in a new interview, but the company isn't banking on AI to get there.

In an interview with GI.biz, Dowdeswell said one of the company's Achilles heels is that it has taken too long to release new games. "There's long stretches of time between game releases, and you lose touch with the players, people lose touch with what you're up to--and they generally cost a lot more, the longer they take," he said.

Part of what Relic will look to do in the future is "get to market more frequently," and that doesn't mean the company wants to lower the quality bar and simply ship things faster for the sake of it.

Prime Big Deal Days - The Best Star Trek Blu-Ray Deals

Thu, 10/09/2025 - 05:52
See at Amazon

Amazon Big Deals Days ends today, October 8, but there are still discounts aplenty on hundreds of Blu-rays to take advantage of, including several Star Trek films and TV series. These range from the original series led by William Shatner's James T. Kirk to its successor Star Trek: The Next Generation, the movies of the modern era set in the Kelvin Timeline, and current shows like Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. We've gathered up the best deals below, in case you'd like to boot up your Starfleet Blu-ray player and chart the final frontier with classic and contemporary Star Trek. Remember that these deals end today, so grab them while you can. And be sure to check GameSpot's Prime Day Deals Hub for even more discounts that are still available.

Star Trek: The Original Series $18 - $67

Classic Star Trek might be cheesy, but there's no denying the charm of this groundbreaking show. The complete series is available on Blu-ray, and you can choose between a standard Blu-ray release or the Roddenberry Vault Edition that includes content that was originally left on the cutting room floor. The first Star Trek movie is also available in two distinct editions--a 4K steelbook edition that comes with a physical dossier of Starfleet files and a "Director's Edition" packaged with unique collectibles.

You can also get several of the movies, like the excellent Wrath of Khan and The Voyage Home. These 4K editions have inherited their special features from previous DVD and Blu-ray releases, but they're still a treasure-trove of content that adds to the magic of each movie.

See at Amazon Star Trek: The Next Generation $59 - $102

Amazon doesn't have too many deals on the adventures of the Enterprise-D crew, but what it does have on sale is pretty comprehensive regardless. You can get the full Next Generation series on Blu-ray for $102.49 (was $161), and you can finish off the collection with all four movies in one 4K bundle. This gets you Star Trek: Generations, First Contact, Insurrection, and Nemesis, alongside standard Blu-ray discs housing hours of various special features.

See at Amazon Star Trek: Enterprise - The Complete Series $65 (was $91)

The Star Trek series set at the earliest point of the franchise, this show follows the crew of the very first Enterprise starship as they explore uncharted territory and make first contact with various alien species across 97 episodes. There's also an impressive amount of special features included here, pulled from the original DVD releases of Star Trek: Enterprise.

See at Amazon Star Tre: Kelvin Timeline $6 - $33

Best known for lens flares, this film trilogy was a reboot of the original Star Trek series and featured a young crew at the helm of the starship Enterprise. You can get all three movies in one bundle--standard or 4K Blu-ray--and the steelbook edition of the second film in the series, Star Trek Into Darkness, is quite cheap right now.

See at Amazon Star Trek Discovery $15 - $50

Star Trek Discovery ignited a new era for the franchise, and in case you missed out on it, you can explore the entire series from the comfort of your couch thanks to a Blu-ray box set. A few of the individual seasons are also available as limited edition steelbook releases.

See at Amazon Star Trek spin-offs $17 - $169

Outside of the core series, we've seen several other terrific Star Trek series keep the fanbase engaged. Lower Decks is an animated spin-off that pokes fun at the franchise but is extremely on-point as a Star Trek show, and the Picard series has continued the adventures of the former Enterprise captain as he stepped out of retirement to once again thwart the Borg, reassemble his old crew, and take on one more challenge from Q.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has also been popular since it first aired, as this show leaned closer to the weekly format of old-school Star Trek to deliver classic adventures with a modern flair.

If Picard is your favorite captain, then you might want to check out the Picard Legacy Collection for a comprehensive look at the Starfleet legend's career. This is a starship-sized 54-disc collection that includes all seven seasons of Star Trek: The Next Generation, all four TNG movies, and all three seasons of the recent Picard TV series. On top of that, you're getting over 35 hours of special features and physical items like artwork and quotes, a one-of-a-kind deck of playing cards, a magnet sheet featuring all of Captain Picard’s badges and four custom Chateau Picard drink coasters.

See at Amazon Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (DVD) $60 (was $72)

Star Trek started to explore morally grey territory throughout the '90s, and Deep Space Nine was a pioneer in this space. Set on a decommissioned space station captained by Benjamin Sisko, Deep Space Nine dealt with heavy themes throughout its run from 1993 through 1999. The show hasn't made it to Blu-ray yet, but this DVD collection gets you all 133 hours of the saga.

See at Amazon Star Trek: Voyager $80 (was $120)

Star Trek: Voyager was a return to the roots of the franchise, as this series saw a crew of fresh-faced Starfleet officers and freedom fighters forced to work together after they were transported into the far reaches of the Delta Quadrant.

Another Star Trek series we're still waiting to see get a Blu-ray release, Star Trek: Voyager ran for 172 episodes across seven seasons, and this DVD collection includes several special features.

The Outer Worlds 2 Is Getting Some Pricy Customizable Xbox Controllers

Thu, 10/09/2025 - 05:24

The Outer Worlds 2 caused some waves among fans when it was set to be $80 at launch. Microsoft subsequently walked back the price to $70, but if you want to spend extra money, there's a pair of pricey Outer Worlds 2-inspired Xbox controllers heading your way.

Microsoft has announced that players can now purchase controllers adorned with The Outer Worlds 2's Moon Man and art from the game. But the most intriguing part of these controllers is that fans can customize the designs with Xbox Design Lab. For example, players can choose to go for metallic D-Pad and triggers, or opt in on rubber side and back grips.

There are two different controllers available. The standard Xbox wireless controller will be $95, while the Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 will go for $185. The Elite model has more features including optional back paddles, thumbsticks with adjustable tension, and a shorter hair-trigger lock. While those controllers aren't cheap, they definitely feel in line with something that the game's Earth Directorate would put out into the universe.

Activision Teases News About Call Of Duty's Much-Loved Non-SBMM Playlists

Thu, 10/09/2025 - 04:37

The Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 multiplayer beta added new playlists recently that only factor in skill "minimally," and that's something hardcore fans have wanted for some time. The non-SBMM playlists in Black Ops 7 are referred to as "open" playlists. Activision said it will have "some updates to share with everyone in the coming days" about their future in COD going forward.

Many are hoping to see these "open" playlists stick around for launch, and in fact, one report said that is indeed the plan. However, Activision has yet to make any official announcements.

Save On Yu-Gi-Oh Movie Steelbook Blu-Rays During Amazon Big Deal Days Sale

Thu, 10/09/2025 - 03:14

One of the big anime hits of the early 2000s was Yu-Gi-Oh, and decades later, this franchise still has a devoted fanbase. As Amazon Big Deal Days starts to wind down, there's still time to save some cash on several of the steelbook editions of the Yu-Gi-Oh movies on Blu-ray. Yu-Gi-Oh: The Movie is available for $15.38 (was $30), while Yu-Gi-Oh: Bonds Beyond Time is on sale for $17.54 when you activate the coupon for it.

Yu-Gi-Oh: The Movie - Pyramid of Light $15.38 (was $30)

Released in 2004, Yu-Gi-Oh: The Movie - Pyramid of Light is set between the third and fourth seasons of the show. Yugi Muto and the spirit of Pharaoh Atem once again face off against their rival Seto Kaiba in a Duel Monsters tournament, but unbeknownst to them, this match is all part of a plan put into motion 5,000 years ago by the Egyptian lord of the dead, Anubis.

This version of the film is a barebones presentation, as it only has the English audio track on the disc, but the steelbook cover does feature a nice design based on the original promotional art and movie poster.

See at Amazon Yu-Gi-Oh: Bonds Beyond Time $17.54 (was $19.49)

Yu-Gi-Oh: Bonds Beyond Time was the second feature film in the franchise, and it hit cinemas in 2010. By this time, the original Yu-Gi-Oh series was long over and was followed by two successor series, Yu-Gi-Oh: GX and Yu-Gi-Oh: 5D's.

The film was designed to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the franchise, and it teamed Yugi Moto up with the protagonists of the follow-up series--Yusei Fudo and Jaden Yuki--as they faced off against Paradox in a game of Duel Monsters that would decide the fate of the world.

Thu, 10/09/2025 - 03:07

Near the end of September, EA disclosed a $55 billion deal to take the third-party video game publisher private under a new ownership group including Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, Jared Kushner's Affinity Partners, and the private equity firm Silver Lake.
