Switch 2? EA CEO Says He Can't Comment But Here's What He Did Say

Thu, 02/01/2024 - 00:41

During EA's latest quarterly earnings briefing, EA CEO Andrew Wilson was asked for his thoughts on the new Nintendo console that we've heard many rumors about. Wilson refused to comment on an unannounced product, nor could he even acknowledge anything pertaining to it. However, Wilson did offer a high-level breakdown of how new and more powerful systems, over the years, have helped improve EA's business.

"To the extent that platforms over the course of the last 20 years have come out and offered improved CPU, GPU, memory, battery life, screen resolution--to the extent those things have happened--where we're able to deliver more immersion for our players, particularly around our biggest franchises like FC, like Madden, like Battlefield, like Apex that has typically been very good for our business," Wilson said.

Wilson went on to say that when people can "experience" EA's games "at the highest level" in terms of graphics and fidelity, that has "typically worked out very well for us."

Xbox Posts Massive Surge In Sales Thanks To Activision Blizzard Deal

Thu, 02/01/2024 - 00:04

Microsoft has announced earnings results for the first time since closing its deal to acquire Activision Blizzard in October 2023. As expected, Microsoft's gaming revenue surged dramatically thanks to the addition of Activision Blizzard. The announcement of these results comes just days after Microsoft became a trillion-dollar company and then laid off 1,900 people within the Xbox division.

Xbox content and services revenue surged by 61%, and this includes Xbox Game Pass as well as Activision Blizzard revenue. In total, gaming revenue at Microsoft came to $7.11 billion, up substantially from $5.26 billion year-over-year.

Microsoft said the "net impact" from its Activision Blizzard deal was $2.08 billion in revenue. The company also noted that total costs of the buyout, beyond the purchase price, came to $930 million. Combined with other operating expenses of $1.59 billion, the net impact of the Activision Blizzard buyout during the quarter was an operating loss of $440 million.

Kurt Russell On Why He Didn't Voice Snake In MGS: "IDK I'm A Movie Guy"

Wed, 01/31/2024 - 18:00

Despite the perceived similarities between Escape From New York's Snake Plissken and Metal Gear Solid's Solid Snake, actor Kurt Russell says he never had any interest in voicing a similar character in a video game.

During a GQ video breaking down some of Russell's most iconic roles, the interviewer brings up Metal Gear's Solid Snake as the actor discusses his role as Snake Plissken in John Carpenter's 1981 film Escape From New York.

"There's a video game series called Metal Gear Solid, it was rumored that there's a character in the game inspired by Snake Plissken, and that they asked you to do the voice over," the interviewer prompts.

The Palworld Pokemon Mod Returns With "Legally-Distinct Pocket Creatures"

Wed, 01/31/2024 - 17:25

The Pokemon in Palworld mod by Aussie YouTuber ToastedShoes is back after a DMCA from Nintendo, but now its characters and monsters are legally distinct, featuring evocative names like "yellow rat" and "blue penguin," PCGamesN reports.

While Palworld itself has been the topic of much debate, with some saying its cute, colorful monster designs are too close to Pokemon's, ToastedShoes went one step further by modding actual Pokemon and characters Misty and Ash into the game. Unsurprisingly, Nintendo's lawyers apparently quickly went for him, resulting in DMCA takedowns against all his social media videos released about the mod.

Accordingly, the mod has now been released on Nexus Mods as "The Legally-Distinct Pocket Creatures Mod Pack," with the designs changed enough to hopefully avoid Nintendo's lawyers. Player character Ash has been replaced by a model of ToastedShoes himself, wearing a familiar red-and-white cap. All the Pokemon that were included in the mod have also been swapped out for different versions, such as "yellow rat," which, unsurprisingly, now just looks like a yellow rat.

Rocksteady Gifts Suicide Squad Deluxe Edition Players In-Game Currency After Game Was Pulled Offline

Wed, 01/31/2024 - 11:07

Rocksteady is in the process of compensating players with $20 in-game currency for those who purchased the digital deluxe version of Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League.

The reasoning behind it is that shortly after the game went live in early access for those with the digital deluxe edition, there was a bug that caused players to "auto-complete" the game, and the only way to solve this was for Rocksteady to pull it offline. Since the game is always online, pulling it offline meant that it would become unplayable until the studio resolved the issue.

Thanks to a VGC report, we know that an in-game message was sent to those who purchased the deluxe version of the studio apologizing:

Here's What Happened After Batman: Arkham Knight, According To Suicide Squad

Wed, 01/31/2024 - 09:28

Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League is explicitly set in the Arkhamverse created by Rocksteady, meaning it's a quasi-sequel to 2015's Batman: Arkham Knight. Given how that game ends and how this one begins, there are some questions that need answering for fans of the ongoing storyline, and Rocksteady thankfully takes a moment to set the record straight in an early scene in the game.

Please be aware that this article contains spoilers for Suicide Squad and Batman: Arkham Knight.

In one of the first missions in Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League, the foursome of anti-heroes find themselves in a museum dedicated to Batman. In-universe, this is because, well, Batman rules and that's enough reason, right? But it also serves as a way for Rocksteady to call back to its past efforts and even answer some lingering questions along the way.

Super Bowl 2024 Commercials Roundup: Watch The Big Game Commercials Right Now

Wed, 01/31/2024 - 08:25

Super Bowl 58 takes place on February 11, 2024, with the Kansas City Chiefs hitting the gridiron to take on the San Francisco 49ers. This will Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes' fourth Super Bowl in five years. And sure, while many of us will be tuning in for the football game or the shots of Taylor Swift cheering on her boyfriend, there's a far more important reason to watch the Super Bowl: The commercials.

Given the size of the TV audience that tunes into the big game ever year, advertisers are eager to show off their products and services, and are willing to pay top dollar. CBS and Paramount+ (the broadcast network and streaming service that are airing the game in 2024) wanted $7 million for a 30-second ad played during the 58th Super Bowl. And yes, every single slot has been sold out, so it'll be a packed game.

But what about getting all of the ads in one place, without all of that pesky football getting in the way? Thankfully, Super Bowl commercials start releasing in the week before the big game these days, meaning we can already watch some of them right now. Stay tuned to this post, as we will continue to add new commercials as they are released--and, of course, we'll make sure to post any that don't pop online before the game once they've aired on TV. So strap in for good times that include Arnold Schwarzenegger as a State Farm agent, Jenna Ortega selling us chips, and Ice Spice representing Starry, which is basically just the replacement for Pepsi's Sierra Mist.

Wed, 01/31/2024 - 08:12

Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League is out now for players who purchase the game's more expensive edition which includes, among other perks, a few days of early access. But according to one early scene in the game, Rocksteady still doesn't consider WB Montreal's Batman: Arkham Origins to be part of that story universe.

Please note this story contains minor spoilers for Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League (and the Arkham series) past this point.

About an hour into the game, your ragtag group of playable villains will find themselves in The Batman Experience, an interactive exhibit set in the Metropolis History Museum dedicated to the Dark Knight himself. As the anti-heroes explore this space, you can activate a great number of displays that discuss Batman's many heroic deeds, as well as his deep rogues gallery of defeated ne'er-do-wells. Westworld Star On Why Show's Abrupt Cancellation Was "Awful In A Lot Of Ways"

Wed, 01/31/2024 - 06:05

Evan Rachel Wood, who starred on HBO's Westworld as Dolores, has discussed the show's abrupt cancellation, saying it was "devastating" in part because she doesn't know how the series was supposed to end.

"We were just always told, 'We know how the show ends,' when we started," she said. "They weren't writing it as we went along. They had an idea, and we were all just on a bed of nails waiting to see and hear what the conclusion of this was. What it all meant."

When HBO announced that Westworld would end with Season 4, and the planned fifth season would not go ahead, Wood said she and her castmates were caught off guard.

Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League - Multiplayer And Cross-Play Explained

Wed, 01/31/2024 - 05:19

Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League might be set in the same universe as the Batman Arkham games, but it works entirely differently when it comes to gameplay. You have the choice of playing Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League as a solo player or up to four-player co-op, with all of your friends able to pick a different character from the squad. However, getting co-op working can be a hassle, and you might also have questions about how cross-play works. This guide will answer all of your questions about playing solo, multiplayer, and how all of this intertwines with cross-play in Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League.

How cross-play works in Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League

First up, let's go over exactly how the cross-play system works. Fortunately for players with friends on different platforms, Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League features fully functioning cross-play and cross-progression systems. This means you can team up with your friends or other players on a different platform than you when trying to play in co-op. Also, with cross-progression, you can access your account's save files and progress on any available platform.

Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League is available for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, so, for example, you can go from PC to PS5 and maintain all of your progress. However, this does mean you need to own Kill The Justice League on both platforms you're trying to play on, as the copies of the game are platform-specific. In addition to keeping your gameplay progress, you also keep all of your in-game purchases, including the battle pass.

Destiny 2's Mass Effect Crossover Brings Some Stylish N7 Fashion To The Game

Wed, 01/31/2024 - 04:36

Destiny 2 is getting a bunch of new content starting this week, and for fans of BioWare's space-opera Mass Effect, you can look forward to some stylish new armor sets direct from that game universe next month. Available in Destiny 2's Eververse store starting February 13, there'll be a Commander Shepard-inspired N7 armor set for Titans, a Garrus-inspired Vakarian set for Hunters, and a Liara-inspired Shadow Broker set for Warlocks.

Commander Shepard-approved gear, coming soon to Destiny 2.

All players can claim the Alliance Requisitions Bundle for free, adding an Enhanced Defense Ghost Shell, Alliance Scout Frigate ship, and the Alliance Drop Ship Sparrow to their collection. This isn't the first time that Destiny has crossed paths with other video games, as there have been Assassin's Creed and Witcher crossovers in the past.

These are purely cosmetic pieces to change the look of your armor with, and the aesthetic of Mass Effect meshes surprisingly well with Destiny's unique artistic direction. Like other armor sets, you will have to fork out some cash to own these, as they're normally priced at 2,000 Silver. In real-world cash, that works out to $20 for the Destiny 2 premium currency.
