Sonic the Hedgehog 3 dashes onto 4K Blu-ray tomorrow, April 15, with two different steelbook case designs. Ahead of its release, Amazon has restocked its exclusive Shadow the Hedgehog Limited Edition Steelbook on 4K Blu-ray. The Shadow-themed steelbook has been hard to find since preorders opened. If you'd rather have a case featuring the Blue Blur, Amazon and Walmart are offering a nice discount on the Sonic the Hedgehog Steelbook, dropping the price to $35.69 (was $45).

To complete your Sonic movie steelbook collection, you can buy Sonic the Hedgehog Bonus Stage Steelbook Edition for $30.46 and Sonic 2's Steelbook Edition for $18.45 (was $29).

Complete your Sonic the Hedgehog Steelbook Collection: Sonic the Hedgehog 3 Limited Edition Steelbook (4K Blu-ray) $35.69 (was $45) | Releases April 15

Sonic the Hedgehog 3's first Limited Edition Steelbook features the Blue Blur doing what he does best. This edition comes with 4K Blu-ray, standard 1080p Blu-ray, and digital versions of Sonic 3. You also get a bunch of bonus featurettes.

Preorders for the Sonic variant of the Limited Edition Steelbook are available at Amazon and Walmart for $35.69 (was $45). This is the first preorder discount for Sonic 3.

Amazon and Walmart both offer preorder price guarantees. You won't be charged until your order ships, and you will only pay the lowest price offered between the time you preorder and release.

Preorder at Amazon Preorder at Walmart Sonic the Hedgehog 3 Limited Edition Shadow Steelbook (4K Blu-ray) $45 | Releases April 15, Amazon Exclusive

Sonic 3's Limited Edition Steelbook featuring Shadow is exclusive to Amazon and available to preorder for $45. Unsurprisingly, this edition has been harder to find in stock than the Sonic variant. Amazon sold out of its first batch of preorders fast when preorders opened in January. The Shadow Steelbook was unavailable for nearly all of February and March, but it's back in stock as of April 14.

The Shadow variant complements the Sonic edition by offering the same art design, just with red streaks instead of blue.

Like the Sonic variant, the Shadow version costs $45 and comes with 4K Blu-ray, standard 1080p Blu-ray, and digital versions of Sonic 3. You'll also get the same bonus features. The only difference between the two releases is the steelbook.

Preorder at Amazon Sonic the Hedgehog 3 Standard Edition (4K Blu-ray) $36 | Releases April 15

If you don't have any interest in steelbook cases, the 4K release of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is up for preorder for $36 at Amazon and Walmart. Amazon preorders for the standard 4K edition should reopen soon.

Preorders for the DVD release are available for $21 at Amazon. Sonic 3 won't receive a standalone 1080p Blu-ray edition, at least not at launch. As such, even if you don't have a 4K media player, you'll still need to get the 4K edition to watch Sonic 3 on standard Blu-ray.

Alternatively, you can rent or buy Sonic 3 from Prime Video or stream it on Paramount+.

Marathon Won't Be Full Price, Though Bungie Says It Will Be "A Premium Title"

Tue, 04/15/2025 - 00:22

Even after a reveal showcase over the weekend, there was confusion about one crucial aspect regarding Marathon: the game's price point. Developer Bungie has clarified that the extraction shooter won't be "a full-priced title." However, the entry cost still hasn't been detailed, with that info apparently arriving in the summer.

Originally, GameSpot's Marathon preview noted that the game would be full priced since Bungie has referred to the shooter as "a premium title." On X, Wario64 shared those details before the official Marathon account stepped in to spell out the current pricing situation for Marathon. Yes, it's described as a premium experience, but it won't carry a premium price tag (think $70). What the entry cost will ultimately be for the game will have to wait for a few months, though.

Marathon will be a premium title. Marathon will not be a ‘full-priced’ title.
We’ll announce details this Summer. https://t.co/mbK1vfFLKo

— Marathon (@MarathonTheGame) April 12, 2025

Last September, it was reported that Marathon would cost $40. There were no plans to transition to a free-to-play model at the time, and apparently the shooter was too far along in development to even make that change. Previously, Sony (which now owns Bungie) has released similar live-service games at the $40 price point: Helldivers 2 and Concord. Obviously, the results from those couldn't be more different, but there is clear precedent for that entry fee.

Death Stranding 2 Boss Fights Aren't Just Skippable--They're Also Readable

Tue, 04/15/2025 - 00:06

Boss fights in Death Stranding were relatively easy, and for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, players will be able to skip them entirely. In a new interview, game director Hideo Kojima spoke about a new feature in the game that will allow players to remove boss fights from the game if they get too tough and read about them instead.

According to a translation by Genki_JPN on X (via Dexerto), Kojima explained on the Koji10 radio show that "there will be an extra option on the game over screen below the 'continue' option," that players can select to skip past these sections and read about the showdown instead.

As mentioned above, boss fights in Death Stranding weren't too challenging if you had the right loadout. Protagonist Sam Porter Bridges amassed an impressive arsenal of weapons to use against the BT entities--which weaponized his blood and other bodily fluids to harm them--and near the end of the game, you would gain access to a rocket launcher that could be used to take down kaiju-sized BTs.

PS5 Prices Have Increased In Some Regions, But Not The US

Mon, 04/14/2025 - 23:56

Sony has announced that it has raised prices for the Digital and Standard editions of the PS5 console in select regions, but not the US. However, Sony has also decreased the price of the PS5 disc drive attachment. The price changes are now in effect. In a statement, Sony said it was a "tough decision" to raise prices, and it's not the first time--Sony first raised prices in 2022.

"With a backdrop of a challenging economic environment, including high inflation and fluctuating exchange rates, SIE has made the tough decision to raise the recommended retail price of the PlayStation 5 console in select markets in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), Australia and New Zealand," Sony said in a statement.

The changes are as follows:

The Last Of Us Season 2's Kaitlyn Dever Is Aware Of Abby Discourse, But Didn't Focus On It

Mon, 04/14/2025 - 23:52

Kaitlyn Dever stars in Season 2 of HBO's The Last of Us as Abby, and anyone who's played the game or is aware of the story understands just how significant a character she is. Abby the character generated a lot of debate, discussion, and discourse when The Last of Us: Part II came out in 2020, and many are expecting the same to be true for the TV show.

Dever told Collider that she is aware of the conversation surrounding Abby, but she did not focus too much on it when performing her part.

"Obviously, I know about the conversation surrounding Abby, obviously, but in order to do my job in the best way possible, I had to just be aware of it but then just not put all my focus on it," she said. "If I was too worried about what was being said about this character online, I think it would have taken away from the performance. At the end of the day, that's the most important thing."

The Last Of Us Season 2 Trailer Reveals What's Coming In Future Episodes

Mon, 04/14/2025 - 23:16

HBO has released a new trailer for The Last of Us Season 2, spotlighting what's to come in future episodes of the post-apocalyptic series. This video is naturally full of spoilers for what's on tap.

In the trailer, we get a glimpse of when Joel (Pedro Pascal) gives Ellie (Bella Ramsey) her famous guitar, more scenes between Joel and his therapist Gail (Catherine O'Hara), and a window into what Abby (Kaitlyn Dever) is up to as she tries to hunt down Joel and get her revenge. The video also shows off Isaac (Jeffrey Wright) having a tense conversation, as well as scenes with lots and lots of infected.

Presumably some of what's on display in the trailer is from Episode 2, but the video is titled "Weeks Ahead," so it might also contain footage from other episodes as well. As announced previously, there are seven episodes in total for The Last of Us Season 2.

Mon, 04/14/2025 - 23:15

HBO's The Last of Us has returned for its second season, and series star Bella Ramsey believes the season's ending will leave viewers angry and emotionally traumatized.

Speaking to Collider, Ramsey said by the end of the season, viewers will "feel like they've been on a pretty intense roller coaster."

"I just hope that people keep their seatbelts on the whole time because it's pretty mad. I think that people will hopefully feel really satisfied by the journey of it. I hope people are slightly emotionally traumatized because it's supposed to make you feel it a lot," Ramsey said.

Marathon - Release Date, Price, And Everything We Know About Bungie's Extraction Shooter

Mon, 04/14/2025 - 22:51

Before it made a name for itself in the gaming industry with titles like Halo: Combat Evolved or Oni, Bungie's big video game series was Marathon, a grand sci-fi saga that was originally released for Mac. In many ways, Marathon was ahead of its time thanks to its rich lore, groundbreaking gameplay elements, and ideas that would help shape Bungie's work on Halo and Destiny. After decades of dormancy, Marathon returns later this year, this time as a multiplayer-focused extraction shooter that combine's Bungie's signature gunplay with a vibrant art direction.

Ahead of its launch in September, we've gathered up all the pertinent information on the game and you can read up to see how Marathon is shaping up.

The Minecraft Movie Is Now The No. 2 Highest-Grossing Video Game Film Of All Time

Mon, 04/14/2025 - 22:24

A Minecraft Movie continued its impressive run at the box office, earning $80.6 million during its second weekend. That brings the film's domestic take up to $280 million, and combined with its international haul of $269.6 million so far, A Minecraft Movie has now made $550 million worldwide.

Hilariously, there have been reports of a popcorn melee during screenings. While several theater chains aren't ready to comment on their cinemas being flooded with the snack during a certain scene, Regal Movies is encouraging its patrons to go wild for a special Chicken Jockey film screening on April 20.

So where does A Minecraft Movie stand in the grand scheme of live-action video game adaptations on the big screen? For now, it's in second place on the list of highest-grossing video game movies, trailing behind The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Its jump from ninth to second place shifts other video game adaptations like Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Detective Pikachu, and Uncharted further down the list.

Bungie's Marathon Is A Polished Extraction Shooter, But That Might Not Be Enough

Sun, 04/13/2025 - 04:00

I've been trying to distill my thoughts and feelings about playing Marathon into something easily communicable and I keep coming back to Season 6, Episode 13 of The Simpsons. In the episode, titled "And Maggie Makes Three," Homer learns that he's become a father for the third time and, in response, reacts with a despondent thumbs up that simultaneously acknowledges that something good has happened but that it also creates the potential for stress, hardship, and maybe even disappointment. I hate to reduce playing an alpha version of the next game from the team behind Halo and Destiny to a reaction meme deployed by millennials in group chats, but the accuracy of what homersadthumbsup.jpg conveys is undeniable.

After around eight hours of gameplay where I faced off against developers, content creators, and members of the press, I left Bungie's Bellevue studio keen to play more of its high-stakes PvPvE multiplayer game. And at the same time, I couldn't deny that I had serious concerns about the experience that its compulsive gameplay loop is couched within. Putting it plainly, I'm worried Marathon could launch as a solid multiplayer shooter that is brimming with potential but thin on content. And in the dog-eat-dog world of multiplayer games, that could be a major issue.

Even in its alpha stage, what made playing Marathon so compelling was immediately evident. It took just one match of running, gunning, looting, and extracting to identify that the core of the experience leverages Bungie's pedigree as a best-in-class first-person-shooter developer. As longtime Halo or Destiny players can attest to, there's a satisfying texture in the moment-to-moment gameplay that makes Bungie's games hard to put down. The satisfying thump of a melee kill or the glee that comes from sticking an enemy with a plasma grenade has carried Halo through multiple generations. And deep loot-based progression layered on top of that gives Destiny a gravitational pull that's hard to escape. Marathon has all that, but within the framework of an extraction shooter. For those not familiar, this is a relatively new flavor of multiplayer shooter that takes the thrills of PvP and marries it with the tension of battle royale to create a game about dropping in, grabbing resources, and then making it to an extraction point to get out with your goodies in a single life.

Bungie's Marathon Releases In September On Same Day As Another Big Game

Sun, 04/13/2025 - 04:00

Bungie's new shooter Marathon was the focus of a livestream event today in which the company shared lots of new information about it, including a release date. Marathon will launch on September 23, which is the same day that Gearbox's highly anticipated Borderlands 4 arrives. It's expected that GTA 6 will follow soon after, potentially in October.

Marathon, which is a successor to Bungie's 1994 game of the same name, is headed to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. The game supports cross-play and cross-saves for all platforms.

Also during the livestream event today, Bungie announced that a closed alpha test for Marathon will begin in April--here's how to sign up for the Marathon closed alpha.

Marathon Closed Alpha Begins In April, Here's How To Sign Up

Sun, 04/13/2025 - 04:00

As part of the Bungie's reveal showcase for its next game, Marathon, the studio announced a closed alpha test and confirmed how players can sign up for access.

The Marathon closed alpha starts later this month, and players can join the Marathon Discord channel for a chance to get in. Bungie said its teams will be "actively engaging" with the Discord channel, including conducting live Q&As and generally discussing the project directly with fans.

Marathon is a team-based extraction shooter. It's a successor of sorts to Bungie's 1994 game of the same name. Whereas Bungie today is better known for its work on the Destiny and Halo franchises, the original Marathon was one of Bungie's first big successes when it was released for Mac and Apple Pippin.
