Helldivers 2's Upcoming Patch Delayed Due To "Last-Minute Certification Issue"
The immensely popular Helldivers 2 has been having a rough go at things lately, what with the co-op shooter's latest update causing myriad headaches for everyone. A patch meant to address many of the bugs plaguing Helldivers 2--both in the game and in the code--was slated to arrive on October 21, but it's been delayed until either Friday, October 24, or sometime next week due to some unspecified "last-minute certification issue."
Developer Arrowhead Game Studios took to Helldivers 2's official Discord server to deliver the news. The studio wouldn't clarify what the "last-minute certification issue" was, but the team is willing to "work over the weekend" if necessary to get this update optimized for deployment.
"We want to share an update on our most recent patch. It was originally planned for Tuesday, but a last-minute certification issue caused a delay," the developer said. "The team is now targeting delivery by the end of this week, with staff ready to work over the weekend if needed. There's still a small chance the issue won't be fully resolved by Friday, which could push the patch to next week. We're doing everything we can to deliver it this week and will provide an update on Friday either way. Thanks for your patience and understanding."

Continue Reading at GameSpotKojima Says AI Could Shape The Future Of Games, But Silent Hill F Producer Strongly Disagrees
In a recent interview, game creator Hideo Kojima kicked off a firestorm on social media as he shared his thoughts on the future of the industry. Kojima warned that relying too heavily on remaking old franchises is creatively risky and that, in the future, AI will likely be used to create these kinds of projects.
Kojima has already said he doesn’t see AI as a threat, though. Instead, he believes it can be a helpful tool for handling repetitive tasks, allowing human creators to focus on more imaginative work. Kojima explained that he sees AI as a "friend" in development, one that improves efficiency without replacing human leadership in creativity.
Silent Hill series producer Motoi Okamoto strongly disagrees with Kojima's prediction. Okamoto stated that Silent Hill f, the latest game in the franchise, could not have been made by AI. While AI might be able to generate ideas for sequels, Okamoto believes it cannot make bold creative decisions, such as changing the setting to 1960s Japan or involving acclaimed horror writer Ryukishi07. These choices, he says, came from human insight and vision--something AI simply can't replicate at this point.

A former Bethesda designer has some theories on why Starfield didn't take off the same way the company's other marquee RPG franchises did.
Speaking to FRVR, developer Bruce Nesmith, who worked as a systems designer for Starfield before leaving Bethesda in 2021, complimented the space-set RPG, while opining that it didn't reach the same heights as The Elder Scrolls or Fallout.
"I think it’s a good game," Nesmith said. "I don’t think it’s in the same calibre as the other two, you know, Fallout or Skyrim, or Elder Scrolls rather, but I think it’s a good game." Nesmith added that he remains proud of the work that he and his former colleagues contributed to the game.

A veteran high-ranking game developer has sounded off on the use of artificial intelligence systems in gaming, saying developers who fail to adopt the technology run the risk of selling themselves short. Speaking to IGN, former Sony Santa Monica director of product development Meghan Morgan Juinio said AI is a "tool" and "something that will augment" human creators, not replace them.
"At least for right now, that's how I see it. It's going to evolve whether you're on board with it or not, so I want to be at the forefront of helping to guide how that goes and how we use it," Juinio said.
She added: "I think if we don't embrace it, I think we're selling ourselves short."

With the PS5 turning five years old in November, discussion about its successor has begun to intensify. Sony and AMD recently spoke about new technological breakthroughs that it was pioneering, and former SIE Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida has shared his thoughts on the rumored PS6 and how Sony needs to do more than just chase graphics for its next-generation console.
Speaking on the Friends Per Second podcast, Yoshida explained how the graphical capabilities of current-gen hardware were starting to hit a wall and that the company needs to start thinking beyond pure graphical power to attract a wide audience. "PlayStation--in my mind--they can't do the same thing they have been doing, increasing the graphics power and providing the high-end experiences," Yoshida said. "They might just do that, but still, that feels like a niche audience right now."
While Yoshida doesn't know what he'd do to make the PS6 stand out if he were still at PlayStation, he did stress that he was confident that the current leadership of the company--led by CEO Hideaki Nishino--is capable of bringing something "disruptive" to the industry, thanks to them being relatively young in comparison to the previous management generation.

Payday 2 may predate Payday 3 by a decade, but the former still remains popular while the latter has struggled. Now, publisher Starbreeze has lined up Sidetrack Games to work on Payday 2 updates on PC and keep those players satisfied.
Sidetrack was previously known as the M.U.G. Team in the Payday modding community, and the studio also worked on updates for RAID: World War 2 after that game's lifecycle came to an end. According to Starbreeze, Sidetrack's first Payday 2 update will go live on October 23, with a focus "on the stability of the game and improving the overall player experience." Future updates are planned for "quality-of-life improvements and general game fixes."
Starbreeze will host a livestream on October 23 that lays out the details of the patch and invites the player community to "help shape future improvements." With Payday 2 now in the hands of Sidetrack going forward, Starbreeze will primarily be working on updates for Payday 3. Payday 2 still has has tens of thousands of players at any given time, according to SteamDB. However, Payday 3 has trouble cracking 1,000 concurrent players.

Another title that caught our eye was The Cube, Save Us: an extraction shooter with a very arresting visual style.

Battlefield Studios has delivered on its promise to patch out Battlefield 6 Portal mode XP farms, making it so players will need to unlock things like weapon attachments and gadgets the old-fashioned way--by playing the game with actual humans.
In an update, Battlefield Studios has made it so playing in Battlefield 6 Portal lobbies with bots enabled will no longer reward Mastery XP or count towards challenge progress. Players, however, can still earn career XP in bot lobbies, as well as receive a 150% XP match completion bonus. Portal lobbies without bots can still be used to earn Mastery and complete challenges.
A statement from Battlefield Studios last week said that its internal data indicated that a "large number of these [bot-enabled Portal servers] were created primarily to earn XP, inflate player stats, and earn special accolades through defeating bots." While the developers understand why players would make these lobbies, it was making it "noticeably harder" for players to find non-XP-farming experiences in Battlefield Portal.

If you're familiar with the legendary Ninja Gaiden series you'll know that it is known for high-octane, jaw-dropping action and superhuman feats of strength and agility. While those are executed in-game by trained ninjas, in the real world there are precious few that can manage feats as impressive. One of those that can, however, is Emmanuel "Master" Rodrigues, a professional gamer that is capable of playing games at the highest level under extreme conditions.
To celebrate the launch of Ninja Gaiden 4, a brand-new entry in the iconic franchise developed by Team Ninja and Platinum Games, we took the action to the skies by playing the game on a helicopter soaring over Miami. And to make things even trickier, the 20-foot screen Master is playing on is also flying over city. Needless to say, it takes some serious skill to pull something like that off, let alone do it as well as he does. It's an impressive achievement, and you can watch it happen in the video below.
Those that play Ninja Gaiden 4's will find that the stunt draws heavy inspiration from the game, in which the citizens of Tokyo have escaped toxic floodwaters by building skyscraper districts that tower above the ruined city below. The stunt was achieved using advanced sports broadcasting technology that was utilized to stream live gameplay from Emmanuel's helicopter to flying screen.
