Amazon Prime Members Get These 9 Free Games In June
Amazon has revealed the PC games that'll be coming to Prime Gaming in June, and this month, subscribers can journey into old-school adventures and lay some tracks for their favorite choo-choos.
Sign up for Amazon PrimeAs a reminder, all of the free games that you claim through Prime Gaming are yours to keep forever, even if your subscription expires. If you aren't a member, you can sign up for Amazon Prime for as little as one month to take advantage of the subscription and the freebies offered through it.
There's a smaller selection of games this month, but that means several interesting titles get a chance to shine. Kicking things off, you can grab the turn-based RPG Mordheim: City of the Damned for some grisly Warhammer fun and The Abandoned Planet is a retro-inspired point-and-click adventure.

If you're a member of Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack, the Switch 2 upgrades for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom come included with your subscription. But how exactly you access those upgrades can be mildly confusing, so be warned.
When you transfer your data from a Switch to Switch 2, it will start downloading various software from your old system. Once it's done downloading one of the Zelda games, you might think the rest happens automatically--but no. Instead, starting up Tears of the Kingdom starts the Switch version, with a menu option at the bottom to upgrade to the Switch 2 version. Selecting that menu item forwards you to the Nintendo eShop store page, or you can find the store pages manually.
But here's where the process may trip up unsuspecting Hyrulians. The store page displays two different buttons. On the left side, next to the "Online + Expansion Pack" label, is "Download." On the right side is "Continue." The Continue button is noticeably much bigger and brighter, and located where you'd usually go to complete a transaction. But the free option for subscribers is the "Download" button.

The midnight launch of the Switch 2 went off relatively smoothly in the US, but one group of customers were in for a nasty surprise when they got home to unwrap their new console. It looks like one GameStop branch was a little too heavy-handed with the stapler, as customers are reporting that they unboxed their Switch 2 and discovered ghastly puncture holes right in the shiny new screen.
According to a Reddit thread (via Wario64), customers showed up to a GameStop located in Staten Island, and after purchasing a Switch 2, their receipt was stapled to the box. It's worth noting that the Switch 2 box has thin cardboard, and the Switch 2 itself sits right underneath the flap with its screen facing up, so it's not surprising that a quick whack with a stapler would result in damage to the screen.
Apparently one GameStop store used a stapler to attach receipts to Switch 2 boxes and the staple ruined the screen...another person commented their unit and others were affected at the same store www.reddit.com/r/GameStop/c...

Get Six Lego F1 Mini Race Cars For Only $20 Before They Sell Out
Lego F1 Mini Race Car Mystery Box (6 Cars)
See at Amazon See at Walmart See at Target
Lego just launched its F1 Mini Race Car Collection in May, but you can already save 33% on a mystery box with six vehicles. The discount drops the price from $30 to $20 and is available at Amazon, Walmart, and Target. Amazon is likely to sell out first, as this limited-time deal is over 60% claimed at the time of writing.
The new collection of race cars features 12 different designs to collect. Normally, the mystery box essentially gets you one car for free, as individuals are sold for $5 each. But with the current discount on the mystery box, you're only paying $3.33 per car. You’re very unlikely to get a duplicate in one box, though you’ll need to pick up multiple boxes if you want to complete your lineup--and buying more than one typically leads to duplicates. In that regard, it’s similar to the Lego Minifigure Mystery Box, which gets you a random assortment of six Lego minifigures for $29.

The latest expansion set for the Pokemon TCG, Destined Rivals, just released on May 30. And, rather unsurprisingly, the only options available carry inflated price tags. We wouldn't recommend spending this much on the packs--but if you really can't wait for prices to drop and inventory to restock, you'll find most of the packs available at Amazon. The entire collection features more than 240 cards, and the massive Booster Display Box and its 36 booster packs are the easiest way to load up on new releases.

Mario Kart World is out now for the Nintendo Switch 2, and people are making discoveries about it, like an unexpected co-developer and what features the game has and does not have.
One feature Nintendo did not include in Mario Kart World is local co-op for the game's Free Roam mode, Kotaku discovered. Nintendo never said the game would have this, but it's still a disappointing realization for some people who wanted to enjoy zipping around Mario Kart World's vast map with a friend or family member locally.
Many are speculating that this feature not being available may come down to technical considerations. Forza Horizon 5, another popular racing game with a huge map, does not allow for local co-op either.

The Wes Anderson Archive: The Criterion Collection
Preorder at AmazonWes Anderson's directorial career has spanned almost 30 years, and in that time, he has established himself as an auteur filmmaker with an instantly recognizable style. Anderson has directed 13 feature films since 1996, and thanks to the Criterion Collection, 10 of those movies are getting a premium 4K Blu-ray box set on September 30. Along with the movies, Criterion Collection's The Wes Anderson Archive will also include a selection of illustrated books and other exclusive collectibles. While Amazon lists the pricey collection for $500, preorders are currently discounted to $368.
The Wes Anderson Archive: The Criterion Collection $368 (was $500)First up, the films. In total, there are 10 movies here that have been digitally remastered in 4K. These include Anderson's early efforts like Rushmore and well-known movies like The Grand Budapest Hotel. Here's the full list:
- Bottle Rocket
- Rushmore
- The Royal Tenenbaums
- The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou
- The Darjeeling Limited
- Fantastic Mr. Fox
- Moonrise Kingdom
- The Grand Budapest Hotel
- Isle of Dogs
- The French Dispatch of the Liberty, Kansas Evening Sun
Additionally, you'll get over 25 hours of special features, like various audio commentary tracks, deleted scenes, promotional materials, interviews, photo galleries, and various other bonus materials that go deep behind the scenes on the making of each film. The big draw here is that this is a Criterion Collection release, which means that each movie is presented as the director intended. Anderson oversaw the development of this box set and he provided final approval, so these are essentially the definitive versions of his films, down to the audio and visual design.
The entire bundle also comes with 10 illustrated books, and alongside the 20 Blu-ray discs, the collection is boxed up in a deluxe clothbound edition slipcase that looks like a prop from one of his films.

As mentioned above, Anderson films have a distinct look and feel. The director often uses central framing to tell a story, giving his projects a theatrical and scaled-down feel, filling each scene with props and costumes that have a chic, retro-artisanal vibe. The soundtracks are also heavily inspired by the past, as Anderson frequently draws music from the 1960s and 1970s to complement a scene. Anderson has also directed two stop-motion animation movies, which are included in this collection--which feature an amplified take on his quirky directing style.
Another great bundle to check out--but it is also quite expensive--is CC40: The Criterion Collection. This 40-film box set features eclectic mix of classic and contemporary films, all accompanied by various special features, and packaged in deluxe packaging. It also comes with an illustrated 216-page book featuring essays on the films inside by critics, scholars, and authors. If you enjoy arthouse cinema, this is the collection to have, if you can afford it. You're getting critically acclaimed films like Sunday Bloody Sunday, Do the Right Thing, and Repo Man, as well as genre-defining movies like Night of the Living Dead and Persona. The giant box set normally costs a whopping $800, but it's currently on sale for $372.66 at Amazon--just be sure to click the coupon code on the store page to get the full discount.

The Pokemon Company officially revealed the Switch 2 edition of the highly anticipated sequel last week. Pokemon Legends: Z-A retails for $60 on Nintendo Switch and $70 for Switch 2. Interestingly, the URLs for Walmart's new store pages for both editions mentions an exclusive gift; at the moment, the store page doesn't mention the freebie, so it's possible the URL is wrong about this. We'll update with more details as we learn more.
Pokemon Legends: Z-A Preorder BonusesThough Pokemon games have received in-game preorder bonuses in the past, the majority of Nintendo's first-party games don't come with official bonuses. Instead, retailers such as Walmart, Best Buy, Target, and GameStop sometimes compete with each other by offering exclusive trinkets. It remains to be seen if any other major retailers will offer a unique bonus.

After years of rumors and speculation, Final Fantasy Tactics is heading to modern consoles with a remaster, Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles. Director Kazutoyo Maehiro, art director Hiroshi Minagawa, and original script, scenario writer, and editor Yasumi Matsuno all gave statements about the remaster. However, it was Matsuno who opened up about the political backdrop of the story and how it's still more relevant than ever.
The story of FFT centers around two men, Ramza Beoulve and Delita Heiral, who come from completely different backgrounds but initially have similar goals. Eventually, their lives fork off in massively different directions and they find themselves now at odds with one another.
"Nearly 30 years ago, the collapse of Japan's bubble economy engulfed the nation's financial institutions in mountains of bad debt, triggering a wave of corporate bankruptcies, a sudden and extreme rise in unemployment rates, and stagnation of Japanese society as a whole, it was an era when many were robbed of hope, when dreams were measured by their price tag," Matsuno said.

Nintendo didn't develop Mario Kart World totally on its own. Now that the game is out, it's been discovered that Nintendo sought help from other studios, both internal and external.

The battle royale genre dominated 2017. Fortnite, PUBG, Apex Legends, and other games came out around that time and took over the gaming zeitgeist. We're almost a decade out from the golden age of battle royales and Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney believes it is the best shooter genre out there.
"If you look at the shooter genre, it evolved with new game types coming out over time based on what was possible with the current technology," Sweeney said in an interview with IGN. "Battle royale just happens to be the best shooter genre yet invented -- and thanks to both the Japanese movie makers and [PUBG creator] Brendan Green for discovering the magic there. But it's definitely not the last. There'll be more and it'll get even better and new technologies are going to make things that are currently impossible, possible, and I think that's going to unleash unexpected surprises and creativity."
Sweeney also spoke about the fact that people still view Fortnite as just a battle royale and not an "everything game." Epic Games considers Fortnite a platform that includes creator-made modes as well as developer-created modes like Fortnite Festival and Rocket Racing. Battle royale, including it's multiple spin-offs like Zero Build, is still the game's most popular mode.

Next week, former Grand Theft Auto lead developer Leslie Benzies will release MindsEye, his first game since his acrimonious departure from Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive in 2016. However, two of the top executives from MindsEye's studio Build a Rocket Boy have left the company ahead of its release next week.
As reported by Eurogamer, chief legal officer Riley Graebner and CFO Paul Bland acknowledged their departure from Build a Rocket Boy. Neither Graebner nor Bland explained why they left the company, but both expressed pride in what they accomplished there.
Earlier this month, Build a Rocket Boy co-CEO Mark Gerhard openly agreed with the suggestion that there was a "concerted effort" to harm the reputation of MindsEye and its parent company. Without directly accusing another company of being involved with the game's negative reception, Gerhard said it "doesn't take much to guess who." He doubled down on that idea despite a lack of evidence and added that "there are bot farms posting negative comments and dislikes" for MindsEye.

Next month marks the 43rd anniversary of the original Tron movie, but players won't have to wait any longer to reenter the Grid. Ahead of its full release later this month, the demo for Tron: Catalyst has debuted on Steam.
According to Tron: Catalyst director Mike Bithell, the demo covers roughly the first hour of the game. Bithell also noted that the game supports ultrawide monitors, which he felt was appropriate for the franchise.
I work on an ultrawide, so there was no way this wasn’t happening. Also…. It’s TRON, it deserves that treatment.

Catalyst is a departure from Bithell Games' previous title, Tron: Identity. That game was essentially an interactive cyberpunk novel, while Tron: Catalyst has switched genres to isometric action. Players will be able to utilize their Identity Discs and their Light Cycles while facing The Core, a militant faction that's holding on to power in the Arq Grid.
