Explore Decades Of Horror Movie History In Video Ghastlies

Fri, 04/18/2025 - 08:30

Why settle for one kind of horror story when you can explore them all? That's the TLDR behind Video Ghastlies, an upcoming horror game that sees players pulled into many different eras of horror movie history, from 1930s gothic horror and Carpenteresque body horror to Giallo slashers and even modern styles like found footage. The game doesn't have a release date just yet, but it'll debut on PC.

Video Ghastlies is set in 1990s Scotland, casting players as the sibling of a missing brother. To find him, you'll explore illegal VHS tapes, with each one pulling you into a different horror story. In between, your apartment acts as a safe haven where you can put clues together and try to solve a multilayered mystery.

The game doesn't intend to be a defenseless horror game akin to Amnesia or Outlast. Instead, you'll be equipped with weapons befitting of each era and genre you're pulled into, with puzzles to slow you down and enemies staring back at you.

Get 8 Metroidvanias For Just $14 With This Great PC Game Bundle Deal

Fri, 04/18/2025 - 08:17
See at Humble

Whether you call them metroidvanias, search action, or pathfinder games, there's no denying the genre inspired by Super Metroid and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night has become one of the most popular around, especially in the indie scene. If you feel the itch to explore and unlock doors, then Humble's new Return to Metroidvanias Bundle is definitely worth checking out. The deal gets you up to eight highly rated Metroidvania PC games for just $14.

Like all Humble Bundles, the Return to Metroidvanias Bundle benefits charity. In this case, a portion of each purchase is donated to Cool Effect, an organization dedicated to reducing pollution and curb the effects of climate change. So not only are you helping save a bunch of 2D virtual worlds, you're helping save our own, too.

Humble Bundle: Return to Metroidvania Get 8 Steam games for only $14.

The Return to Metroidvania bundle offers a pay-what-you-want model where the more you pay, the more games you'll get. Pricing starts at just $5, and gets you two games: Gato Roboto, which sees you exploring a high-tech facility as a mech-piloting cat, and Monster Sanctuary, which mixes Pokemon-inspired monster taming and turn-based battles with Metroidvania-style sidescrolling exploration.

At $10, you'll get three more games, including Shantae and the Seven Sirens, which is the fifth game in the Shantae series and notable for its hand-drawn in-game visuals and cutscenes. You'll also get the Islets, a charming adventure set in a world of floating islands, as well as Astalon: Tears of the Earth, which is inspired by side-scrolling action RPGs of the late 80s like Legacy of the Wizard and Xanadu--an often overlooked segment of the Metroidvania genre's history.

If you pay $14, you'll get the full eight-game bundle, which gets you all of the previously mentioned games, plus the Dark Souls-inspired Grime, the fast-paced action platformer Berserk Boy (which we should note is closer to Mega Man X or Mega Man Zero than a true Metroidvania), and BioGun, which is a 2024 release with a vibrant art style reminiscent of Hollow Knight and gameplay inspired by classic 2D shooters.

See at Humble BioGun

All eight games are delivered as official Steam keys. Almost all of the games are fully playable on Steam Deck, too, with the sole exception of BioGun--it's playable, but has very noticeable performance issues and requires tinkering with the controls. We'd recommend playing BioGun on a Windows PC instead. It's a great game, especially if you favor the Metroid side of the genre.

Playdate Season 2 Lineup Includes New Game From Into The Breach Devs

Fri, 04/18/2025 - 06:40

Panic announced the initial lineup of Playdate Season 2 games during a recent livestream, and one of them is Fulcrum Defender, the latest project from Into the Breach and FTL: Faster than Light developer Subset Games. It's an arcade-action game where you control a turret using the Playdate's hand crank and stop incoming projectiles before they reach the center of the screen.

In our Into the Breach review, we called it a "pristine and pragmatic tactical gem," and it won the BAFTA for best original property, along with "best strategy game" at The Game Awards 2018. FTL launched in 2012 to critical acclaim for its design and soundtrack. However, Subset Games' Justin Ma said during the stream that they weren't trying to create another hit. In fact, they didn't actually plan on releasing Fulcrum Defender at all for a while.

"I was making it as a form of self-therapy," Ma said. "I have been struggling with long COVID the past few years, and I wanted to prove to myself that I can still make games in my current state."

See at Amazon See at Amazon See at Amazon See at Amazon

CRKD just launched new Fortnite-themed limited editions of its excellent Nitro Deck and Nitro Deck+ Nintendo Switch grips and Neo S wireless controllers, and like other official Fortnite accessories, each one includes codes to unlock bonus in-game cosmetics. The standouts of the quartet of new devices are the Nitro Deck and Nitro Deck+ models, which adorn our favorite Switch premium handheld controllers with exclusive Fortnite-themed skins. There are also two new variants of the Neo S Wireless controller for Switch, PC, and mobile that feature the Fortnite characters Peely and Raven. All four controllers are available now at Amazon.

See all CRKD Fortnite Controllers

Nitro Deck+ Renegade Raider Fortnite Edition $80

This limited edition version of the Nitro Deck+ features a unique color scheme and pattern based on the Fortnite character Renegade Raider, and comes with a code to unlock the O.G. Glider skin in the game.

As mentioned earlier, the Nitro Deck+ is our favorite premium Switch handheld controller. While it works great as a grip and gamepad, it even works as its own dock, supporting charging and USB-C video passthrough. It's equipped with anti-drift Hall Effect thumbsticks, six programmable buttons (four on the back and two on the sides), and a kickstand.

The Nitro Deck+ Renegade Raider Fortnite Edition is a great option for Fortnite fans who want to show off their love for the game, but it's worth noting this new device $80, which is $10 more than most other Nitro Deck+ models. We've listed a few more Nitro Deck+ deals below in case you're interested in shopping around.

More Nitro Deck+ Nintendo Switch Controller Deals:

CRKD also has a new Fortnite-themed version of its standard Nitro Deck controller. The color scheme for this one is based on the Cuddle Team Leader, and it includes a code for the Cuddle Cruiser Glider in-game item.

The standard Nitro Deck model is very close in design and functionality to the Nitro Deck+, but with a few key differences, like no USB-C video passthrough and no sidekick buttons. It also features an offset thumbstick layout instead of the parallel placement like on the Nitro Deck+, though it still uses Hall Effect sticks.

The Nitro Deck Cuddle Team Leader Fortnite Edition is available for $60 at Amazon. Just like with the new Fortnite Edition Nitro Deck+, that's $10 more expensive than the $50 other color options sell for, so we've included a list of other models in case you're curious about what else is available.

CRKD's Neo S Wireless Controller is a compact, rectangular gamepad featuring all the standard buttons, D-pad, and thumbsticks you'd expect from other controllers, plus two extra back buttons. It also uses Hall Effect thumbsticks and triggers, and supports Bluetooth connectivity on Switch, mobile, and PC--including handhelds like Steam Deck, the ROG Ally, and Lenovo Legion Go. This model sports a purple and blue color scheme and decals based on the Raven character from Fortnite and includes a charging dock and a code for the Viceroy Mark I Glider in-game item.

This model has all the same features as the other new Neo S Fortnite Edition Wireless Controller, including the charging dock, but sports a yellow design based on Peely. You'll also get a code for the Drip Dropper Glider.

While all four of these Fortnite-themed CRKD controllers are in stock and available, it's worth noting these are limited-edition accessories and could sell out fast.

Mario Kart World Switch 2 Bundle Will Be Discontinued This Fall

Fri, 04/18/2025 - 05:03

During this week's Mario Kart World-focused livestream, Nintendo reiterated an important fact about the Switch 2 console bundle that comes with the game: It will only be available until Fall 2025. Nintendo originally announced the bundle's limited availability during the Switch 2 Direct earlier this month, but with preorder delays and controversy around game prices, this key detail has flown a bit under the radar.

Nintendo hasn't announced a firm cutoff date for the launch bundle, but the Fall 2025 stopping point for manufacturing could mean the bundle won't be on store shelves this holiday season. Granted, it's very possible that it will be a challenge to find the Switch 2, bundle or not, on store shelves in the US this year. Stock availability concerns have only increased in recent weeks due to the Trump administration's new tariffs.

Mario Kart World Nintendo Switch 2 Bundle $500

The Mario Kart bundle will likely be the preferred choice for many shoppers in the coming months. Not just because it comes with the first open world Mario Kart game, but because you're getting a deal by purchasing the console in a bundle. While it's still possible these numbers could change due to the ongoing tariff saga, the bundle's $500 price is $30 less than the combined cost of the console ($450) and Mario Kart World ($80).

See at Walmart See at Target See at Best Buy

Outside of reconfirming the limited availability for the bundle, Nintendo's 15-minute Mario Kart World livestream stayed clear of the Switch 2 console itself. We still don't know when console preorders will be available in the US and Canada, but Nintendo unveiled several exciting details about Mario Kart World, including the return of Battle Mode and an in-depth look at the new costume and meal systems.

Ahead Of Official Oblivion Remastered Release, Skyblivion Mod Dev Says It's A "Win-Win"

Fri, 04/18/2025 - 05:01

The project lead for the ambitious Skyrim total conversion mod Skyblivion, which looks to remake 2006's The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion using The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim's more modern engine, says the release of an official Oblivion Remastered in 2025 is "a win-win" for those who can't get enough Oblivion in their life.

Skyblivion has been in the works since 2012, with the mod team behind the project, TESRenewal, finally announcing in February it would release in 2025. News of an official Oblivion Remastered has existed since 2023, when the game was revealed in official documents as part of Microsoft's FTC trial regarding its acquisition of Activision Blizzard. More recently, official screenshots of Oblivion Remastered have leaked online, with a release date said to be imminent.

Rebelzize, the project lead behind Skyblivion, doesn't seem too worried about there being too much Oblivion to go around in 2025. In a post on X, they said "the real remake is the friends we made along the way." They then clarified their stance.

Fri, 04/18/2025 - 04:10

CI Games has revealed Lords of the Fallen version 2.0 and it comes with plenty of surprising features, including shared progress co-op saving and a Friend Pass. However, the Steam release has been delayed.

Co-op was one of Lords of the Fallen's standout features, but now the update lets both players save all main story progress. There are some caveats, though. Both players need to be on the same "New Game" and must have defeated a similar number of bosses. They will retain all loot and 100% vigor.

There's also a new Friend Pass that lets players invite another person even if they don't own the game. The invited friend gets to keep all loot and character classes.

Directed by Ridley Scott and starring Orlando Bloom, Eva Green, and Liam Neeson, Kingdom of Heaven had plenty of buzz surrounding its release in 2005. It didn’t quite earn critical acclaim, but it managed to earn generally favorable reviews and gross over $218 million worldwide, making it a massive box office success. Two decades later, the film is getting a 4K Blu-ray release of the expanded director’s cut--the version Scott wanted to release before it was truncated by Fox for its theatrical re

Diablo 4 Is Crossing Over With Dark Fantasy Manga Series Berserk For Its First IP Collab

Fri, 04/18/2025 - 03:35

Diablo 4's first external IP crossover event is coming, and it's with none other than the dark fantasy masterpiece, Berserk.

Blizzard hasn't gone into too much detail on what all the crossover will entail, so far only tweeting out a short animated teaser showing a Brand of Sacrifice-marked Barbarian outfitted with Berserk's iconic Berserker armor and Dragonslayer sword. Considering the teaser doesn't say Diablo 4 specifically (and lists iOS and Android), it looks like the event will come to both Diablo 4 and the free-to-play Diablo Immortal. No other details, including dates for the event or what all it will entail, have been officially announced.

— Diablo (@Diablo) April 17, 2025

For those not in the know, Berserk, by the late author Kentaro Miura, is considered a seminal work in the manga space. Not for the faint of heart, it tells the tale of the mercenary known as Guts and his quest to survive a punishing dark fantasy world. Miura passed away in 2021, leaving the longrunning manga unfinished, though new chapters created by Miura's friend Kouji Mori, alongside Miura's various assistants and apprentices, have slowly been released since Miura's death.

Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 3: Start Date, Star Wars Battle Pass, And Everything Else To Know

Fri, 04/18/2025 - 02:16

There's just a few weeks remaining in Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 2, and it's increasingly looking like next season is going to represent a major change from the typical summer Fortnite schedule. Normally, the spring Fortnite season would run until late May or early June, but Season 2 is wrapping up weeks earlier. But there's a very big reason for the change--more on that in a moment.

Even as we wait for Season 3, there's still some work to be done before we get there. The final part of Season 2's storyline quests is now active, and they'll lead us into another end-of-season story event like the titanic battle between Shogun X and Daigo we had in Season 1.

Once that's done, it'll be full speed ahead toward Season 3, which reportedly has a theme that's going to get a whole lot of folks excited. Let's take a look at what we know so far.

Switch 2 Doesn't Support Cloud Saves For Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom

Fri, 04/18/2025 - 02:03

The Switch 2 Edition of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom doesn't support cloud saves, something that is available in the original Switch version.

Tears of the Kingdom official store page says, "Please note: this software does not support the paid membership's Save Data Cloud backup feature." While reports state that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild also doesn't support cloud saves on Switch 2, its store page doesn't have the same disclaimer.

To add more confusion, this disclaimer apparently only appears on the US and EU store pages of Tears of the Kingdom. The Japanese page seemingly says that the save data storage feature requires a Nintendo Switch Online subscription.

Mario Kart World's $80 Price Defended By Former PlayStation Boss

Fri, 04/18/2025 - 01:32

Former PlayStation executive Shuhei Yoshida has commented on the $80 price for Mario Kart World, saying that although he was surprised to see Nintendo go that high, he defended the decision to do so.

Appearing on the Easy Allies podcast, Yoshida said, "The price of software was a surprise I wasn't anticipating." But he went on to say that people expecting games to stay locked at $70 despite rising development costs and larger scopes might now have to face the music.

Yoshida said (via GamesRadar) that publishers should not be "limited to the fixed price on the shelf from the physical media days." Every game should be priced relative to what's being delivered he said, or in essence, "based on the value the publisher believes."

Decades Later, Mario 64's Baby Penguin Is Still Doomed In Mario Kart World

Fri, 04/18/2025 - 01:14

Nintendo's Mario Kart World Direct presentation revealed tons of new details about the upcoming kart racer. However, among the many different scenes was a sneakily silly reference to an infamous moment in Mario history, and it all revolves around a little blue penguin.

During the Free Roam section of the presentation--at around the 12:04 mark--we see the Penguin racer approaching a cliff and driving off of it, plummeting to the water below. The kart lands safely in the waves, and the little guy cheerfully drives away. This is a far more fortunate fate than old-school Mario fans anticipated back in 1996, when the baby penguin debuted in the Cool, Cool Mountain stage of Super Mario 64.

One mission requires Mario to return the little penguin chick to its mother, which would earn Mario one of the game's 120 Power Stars. However, once the task was completed and the Star appeared, some players found they could still interact with the chick--only to promptly drop it off of the nearby cliff into the abyss, birthing a future internet meme in the process.
