Dbrand's Nintendo Switch 2 Killswitch Grip Is Up For Preorder

Wed, 06/04/2025 - 02:39
Preorder at Dbrand

The Nintendo Switch 2 edition of Dbrand's Killswitch Grip is available to preorder now. Depending on when you place your order, the Killswitch is currently expected to ship this month or next. Dbrand's Killswitch is one of the most popular and best grips for Steam Deck, so the Switch 2 edition, which was custom designed with the console's feature set in mind, should be on your radar.

We'll have a full review of the Killswitch in the coming days after we're able to test it with the Switch 2. Dbrand sent a sample to GameSpot, but since I don't have the console yet, I've only been able to hold it on its own. I can say that the ergonomics of the Joy-Con 2 grip attachments are excellent on their own; it feels natural to hold, and the build quality seems great.

Let's take a look at the Killswitch's features and the customization options you can pick from. For more Nintendo Switch 2 grips, including budget-friendly options available to ship now from Amazon, check out our huge third-party Switch 2 accessory roundup. And if you're still looking to secure the Switch 2 this week, check out our Switch 2 launch week guide for details about release-day events and online restocks.

Destiny 2: The Edge Of Fate Draws On Metroidvanias To Bring You Back In

Wed, 06/04/2025 - 02:00

Destiny 2's upcoming expansion, The Edge of Fate, launches at an uncertain time in the long lifespan of Destiny 2. It follows the high-octane culmination of Destiny's first era, The Final Shape, and a series of transitional episodes that attempted to tie up some loose narrative threads. You'd be forgiven if you fell off of Destiny 2 after The Final Shape--after all, final is right there in the name. Developer Bungie seems to be trying to walk a tightrope with this new expansion: ideally, The Edge of Fate will be enough to bring back lapsed players, but it also needs to give Destiny 2 a shot in the arm that will keep avid superfans engaged for the foreseeable future.

I recently had the opportunity to dig into The Edge of Fate at a preview event hosted by Bungie, and after around eight hours of gameplay, I can confidently say that the expansion's big changes bring new life to the game. Its campaign takes some big swings with its environmental puzzles and new methods of traversal, and it overhauls Destiny 2's core gameplay to make it significantly more streamlined and comprehensible. It remains to be seen if that's enough to revitalize Destiny 2 with the numbers it once had or reinforce the game's status as a live-service powerhouse, but it is enough to make me want to play more.

The Edge of Fate is headlined by a story campaign that takes players to Kepler, a new location located at the far edge of the solar system. Following the conclusion of the story of the battle between the Traveler and the Witness in The Final Shape, The Edge of Fate shifts narrative focus to The Nine, shadowy supernatural beings that predate the Traveler's arrival in the solar system. Instead of powers linked to Light and Darkness, which defined all of Destiny's previous expansions, The Edge of Fate introduces powers related to dark matter--which, in Destiny's universe, is a usable resource that permeates Kepler. The narrative that unfolds features new civilizations, enemies, and a bearded and hipster-glasses-wearing human with an enigmatic backstory and uncertain motives named Lodi.

Blizzard Is Actually Adding New Heroes Of The Storm Content For Its 10th Anniversary

Wed, 06/04/2025 - 01:57

Blizzard's free-to-play MOBA Heroes of the Storm is 10 years old, and the developer is celebrating the special occasion by adding a new hero skin and hinting at the possibility of more to come.

In a blog post, Blizzard announced all of Heroes of the Storm's 90 playable heroes will be free for all players until June 15 to celebrate the game's 10th anniversary, and anyone who logs in before that time will be awarded two new 10th-anniversary player portraits.

The new Gear Head Thrall skin added to Heroes of the Storm for its 10th anniversary.

But that's not all. Despite Blizzard largely ending development on Heroes of the Storm back in 2022, Blizzard's Classic Games team (which now oversees the MOBA) is adding a new skin to the game for the first time in years to celebrate both Heroes of the Storm's anniversary and the recent Warcraft 30th anniversary. The skin, Gear Head Thrall, features a cel-shaded look, as if Thrall took a detour in Gearbox's Borderlands series.

Love Weird Lil Guys? Mario Kart World Is The Game For You

Wed, 06/04/2025 - 01:54

I love weird little guys. It's a truism about me that crosses games, genres, and mediums. It's the reason why, even if I didn't realize it at the time, Toad has been my main Mario Kart racer since I was sitting cross-legged on the carpet of my living room mere inches from the glow of Mario Kart 64. And it's one reason why Mario Kart World has me so excited: It's a veritable treasure trove of weird lil guys.

By now we all know about Cow, the breakout star from the Switch 2 reveal presentation. Everyone loved the outside-the-box approach of plucking a background creature from one stage of Mario Kart and including her as a racer. And to hear Nintendo tell it, Cow was the eureka moment of their whole approach to racers in Mario Kart World. Once you've thrown Cow into the mix, nothing is off-limits.

I enjoy the novelty of Cow, but I've never gravitated toward heavy racers. Mario Kart has always felt best to me when I'm behind the wheel of someone light and zippy with a tight turn radius. So I can respect Cow even if I don't expect to actually race as Cow very often. But the philosophy behind Cow has enabled a smorgasbord of other, equally unconventional racers, and I spent a recent extended hands-on session trying all that I could find. I may have even found a new main. (Sorry Toad.)

How To Make Your Own Holidays And Use The Calendar In The Sims 4: Seasons

Wed, 06/04/2025 - 01:34

While the headlining feature in The Sims 4's Seasons expansion is probably the weather and the seasons themselves, it also included another element that it's tough to imagine living without at this point: a customizable calendar with holidays! While the calendar was eventually added to the base game when the Cottage Living expansion was released, the holidays are still gated behind the Seasons DLC.

By default, Seasons populates your calendar with four annual holidays that are analogous to ones we celebrate in the real world: Love Day, Harvestfest, Winterfest, and New Year's Eve. But you're hardly stuck with just those holidays, as you can make your own new ones from scratch--and you can even edit the default ones or get rid of them entirely if you want.

The holiday system in The Sims 4 isn't that complicated, as there are just five total factors that you can mess with: the holiday's name, its traditions, its theme for decorations, its calendar icon, and whether your sims get the day off work. You can pick any combination of traditions--up to five for each holiday--and there's no reason whatsoever that your holiday has to make any sense. Now, let's get into the details.

Nvidia CEO Claims The Switch 2 Redefines Portable Gaming Graphics

Wed, 06/04/2025 - 01:33

Ahead of the Switch 2's launch this week, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang reflected on the first Switch console in a new video. As Huang explained, Nintendo had an ambitious goal to create a gaming device that was "powerful enough" to run first-party games at home and still be small enough to be used while on the go.

"We've worked with Nintendo for more than a decade, drawn together by a shared belief that technology should serve creativity, and that joy is worth engineering for," Huang said in a Nintendo Creator's Voice video, while also reflecting on late Nintendo president Satoru Iwata's vision for the system.

"I still remember the day Iwata shared his dream with us. He wanted to create something no one had seen before: a console powerful enough for big cinematic games, but small enough to take anywhere. It sounded impossible, but that vision became the original Nintendo Switch. We lost Iwata before the launch, but his clarity, his purpose, it still inspires our work every day."

NIS CEO Says Mid-Sized Companies Need To Create New IP To Survive

Wed, 06/04/2025 - 01:15

While the large publishers continue pumping out sequels and remakes, Nippon Ichi Software’s new CEO Kenzo Saruhashi says mid-sized companies should be taking more risks if they're to survive.

In a Famitsu interview translated by Automaton, Saruhashi and Yomawari series creator Yu Mizokami discussed the company's policy when it comes to making new IPs in the face of rising development costs and risk of failure. This followed the publisher's March 2025 "Untitled" stream, where it revealed six new titles, of which five were brand-new IP.

Saruhashi notes that although making sequels is the easier and safer option, NIS does things differently. "In our case, we’re more driven by whether our fans want a sequel. If there’s demand for it, we’ll make it.”

Elden Ring Icon Let Me Solo Her Died 600 Times To Beat This Upgraded Boss

Tue, 06/03/2025 - 23:45

Since Elden Ring debuted in 2022, a player calling himself Let Me Solo Her has become famous for effortlessly defeating Malenia countless times on behalf of other players. However, Let Me Solo Her nearly met his match with an upgraded Promised Consort Radahn, the final boss of Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree. According to Let Me Solo Her, he spent 54 hours trying to beat Inner Consort Radahn, and died 600 times before vanquishing his foe.

The upgraded Radhan was created by Nexus Mods user thebluehood35 (via GamesRadar),and it undoes the changes From Software made to lower the difficulty of the Radhan boss fight. Instead of making the battle easier, this mod increases Radhan's strength, speed, and his ability to regain health before the second half of the fight.

Let Me Solo Her posted a video of his final fight with Inner Consort Radahn on his YouTube channel, and notes that it "might be harder than Unalloyed Malenia," another upgraded boss that he mastered earlier this year. He went on to acknowledge that it took a long time to beat this boss, but added that the battle was "a really satisfying one too."

Toy Story-Like Shooter Hypercharge: Unboxed Hits PS5 And Rockets Up The Charts

Tue, 06/03/2025 - 21:43

The Toy Story-like toy soldier game Hypercharge: Unboxed recently launched on PS5 and PS4, and after some players complained about low online-player populations, the game's small development team wrote back to share its side of the story.

"Maybe there aren't thousands of players online. But somewhere, someone's on the couch with their kid, playing split-screen, laughing, figuring things out together, side by side," the developer said on social media. "If that's all Hypercharge ever is... that's enough for us. Not every game is meant to be online-only."

The game's head of marketing, Joe Henson of Digital Cybercherries, told Polygon that fans becoming frustrated by Hypercharge lacking enough players for a good online experience is understandable. But the game isn't aimed specifically at online.

Another Nintendo Switch System Update Out Now, Here Are The Patch Notes

Tue, 06/03/2025 - 11:58

Just days ahead of the Switch 2's launch, Nintendo has rolled out another system update for the original Switch. The new ver. 20.1.1 update is fairly minor by usual standards, primarily resolving an issue that cropped up following last week's 20.1.0 update.

According to the patch notes on Nintendo's support website, the new system update "Fixed an issue where some software would not start after updating to system version 20.1.0." No other details were provided beyond that.

The aforementioned 20.1.0 update arrived May 27 and made some notable audio and visual changes to the Switch's interface to bring it more in line with its successor. In particular, Nintendo tweaked the look and color of the Parental Control settings button on the Home screen, as well as changed the sound that plays when launching the Nintendo Switch Online menu.

Super Boss Monster is the next iteration of the Boss Monser card game, which tasks 1-4 players with building a dungeon, enticing adventurers inside, and then defeating them with a litany of traps and monsters lurking within.

This new version features SNES-style artwork (a big change from the NES-inspired artwork of the original), and an all-new Solo Mode that's perfect if none of your board-game buddies can make it to game night. Veteran players, meanwhile, can play the new Challenge Mode, which ramps up the difficulty. Super Boss Monster is also fully compatible with all existing Boss Monster base games and expansions.

Looking to check out the original Boss Monster game? A few different versions are available. Boss Monster: 10th Anniversary Edition gets you the classic card game plus 15 new cards, making it the most up-to-date way to enjoy the original version of the game.

Fortnite Star Wars Event: Start Time And How To Play Death Star Sabotage

Tue, 06/03/2025 - 07:57

Fortnite's Star Wars season is almost over, but there's still one more big thing left on the schedule before we dive into a more traditional summer season of battle royale: the Death Star Sabotage live event! Unlike past Star Wars incursions into Fortnite, which ended with the Empire or First Order just kinda bailing, we're getting a proper wrap-up here that will involve players teaming up to invade the Death Star, which has been looming over the island all season, and presumably blow it up.

While Fortnite has frequently held ambient live events that took place during battle royale matches, Death Star Sabotage will be the sort of event that's usually reserved for the end of a chapter. We haven't had a live event like this one in the middle of a chapter since the Collision event at the end of Chapter 3 Season 2, almost exactly three years ago. Fittingly, it was what happened during that event that drew Darth Vader to the island in Fortnite's story.

It won't be long now until we get to take on Emperor Palpatine. Here's what we know.

Nintendo Switch 2 Gear Guide: Over 100 Third-Party Accessories In One Place

Tue, 06/03/2025 - 07:44

When the Nintendo Switch 2 launches this Thursday, it will be joined by a lineup of about 10 first-party accessories. While a few of those accessories, namely the Joy-Con 2 and Switch 2 Pro Controllers, have features you won't find in other gear, most of Nintendo's optional accessories have comparable, cheaper alternatives from third-party manufacturers. And there are categories of accessories, such as ergonomic grip cases, that are only available from third-party manufacturers. There's an almost overwhelming number of Nintendo Switch 2 carrying cases, screen protectors, grips, and more accessories up for grabs already. To help make shopping for Switch 2 gear easier, we dug through Amazon, Walmart, Best Buy, Target, GameStop, and more stores to collect all of the notable products we found in one place.

Keep in mind that current Switch owners likely already own at least a few compatible accessories, as the Switch 2 is backward compatible with first-party and many third-party controllers, headsets, and more. If your accessory connects via Bluetooth or USB, it should work with Switch 2. That said, form-fitting carrying cases, screen protectors, grips--basically any accessory that touches the console besides thumbstick caps--will need to be replaced.
