FF7 Remake Director Talks Progression "Cheats" And Why He's For Them

Wed, 10/08/2025 - 02:39

Square Enix recently announced that Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade will be coming to Switch 2 and Xbox--and with it, new "streamlined progression features." These are essentially cheats that let players skip the grind and finish the game much more quickly. The idea is to make the experience smoother and more accessible, especially for people playing it for the first time.

The decision to add these features came directly from game director Naoki Hamaguchi. In an interview with (and translated by) Automaton, he explained that he pushed hard for their inclusion. His reasoning? He believes players should have the freedom to enjoy games however they want, whether that's taking their time or speeding through the story.

"Naturally, when we announce features like these, we get responses like, 'This is sacrilegious!'" Hamaguchi said. "Even within the dev team, there are people who feel that way. But unless someone takes the initiative, it doesn't happen."

Making a Transformer toy switch from its robot mode to vehicle mode normally takes a little elbow grease--and is part of the charm--but this cute remote control radio control version of Optimus Prime will do all that for you. Even better, it's on sale at Walmart right now for $20 (was $51) as the brand takes on Amazon Prime Big Deal Days, making this an ideal gift for younger fans of Transformers.

Transformers Optimus Prime Converting RC Radio Control Vehicle $20 (was $51)

Inspired by the Autobot leader's iconic Generation One design, this remote control car converts from a truck to robot and back with the push of a button, and batteries are included. Robot mode captures the boxy appeal of Optimus from his early appearances and toys, while the vehicle mode is the spitting image of his transformation. Once transformed, Optimus can actually walk forward thanks to the motors in his legs, or drive forward in his truck form. The toy also includes lights and sound effects, with several soundbites sourced from the Transformers animated movie.

TMNT Fans Can Save Big On The Last Ronin Graphic Novels During Amazon Big Deals Days

Wed, 10/08/2025 - 02:20
See at Amazon

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic book franchise has several memorable storylines over the years, but in the modern era, The Last Ronin has been the defining tale of the franchise. For Amazon Big Deals Days, the popular graphic novel is on sale, along with several spin-offs. Normally $30, you can get it for $12.74 right now.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin $12.74 (was $30)

Set in a dark future, The Last Ronin tells the story of a lone Ninja Turtle who lives in a version of New York City that has buckled under the weight of totalitarianism. Ruled by Oroku Hiroto, grandson of the Shredder, The Last Ronin is the "final" adventure of the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles from an alternate timeline, but not the end of their legend. This graphic novel is a hardcover release that collects all five issues from the mini-series, and it features incredible art from illustrators like Esau & Isaac Escorza and Ben Bishop.

The Last Ronin was massively popular, and it wasn't long before a sequel series was published under the title of The Last Ronin 2: Re-Evolution. This mini-series followed a new generation of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles who rise up to save New York from warring gangs in this oversized hardcover edition. The original creative team was reunited for this series, and this collected edition was released earlier this year.

To complete the set, you can explore the Ronin-verse with a prequel to the original mini-series. The Last Ronin: Lost Years reveals secrets about the final fated battles of the TMNT, what the titular Last Ronin Ninja Turtle experienced during his vengeful journey, and how his successors were raised by Casey Marie Jones, daughter of New York's infamous sports equipment-wielding vigilante Casey Jones.

Collectors can also preorder Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin Box Set ahead of its release on November 25. This bundle will include all the graphic novels listed above as hardcover editions and packaged inside of a slipcase cover that features new art. Admittedly, this is the most expensive option on this list as the individual hardcovers are substantially cheaper when purchased separately and are available right now. The box set is currently priced at $88.32 (was $95), while the hardcovers listed above will cost you $46.62, if you don't mind skipping the slipcase cover.

Amazon's Buy Two, Get One Free deal is also live, so you can stock up on even more TMNT graphic novels. Several of the collected editions from IDW's run of the series are available, and crossovers with Stranger Things, Batman, and Naruto can also be snapped up here. As a reminder, you don't just need to pick graphic novels for this promotion to kick in, as you can choose from other eligible items on the list across various departments like Blu-rays and toys. Simply add three of these items to your cart, and the price of the lowest-value purchase will be removed.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Technodrome playset

Fans of classic TMNT classic TMNT can also check out two big deals at Amazon during its Prime Day event. The first one is for an Amazon-exclusive Technodrome vehicle playset that you won't have to travel to Dimension X to get your hands on.

See Liam Hemsworth As Geralt In New Witcher Season 4 Trailer

Wed, 10/08/2025 - 02:00

Netflix has released a new trailer for The Witcher Season 4, showing more of Liam Hemsworth in the role of Geralt, a part he took over from Henry Cavill.

In The Witcher Season 4, Geralt, Yennefer (Anya Chalotra), and Ciri (Freya Allan) have embarked on diverging paths. "They stumble on unexpected allies eager to join their journeys. And if they can accept these found families, they just might have a chance at reuniting for good," reads a line from the show's description.

The Witcher Season 4 debuts October 30 on Netflix. There are eight episodes in Season 2, and each is about 50 minutes long. The show's creator, showrunner, and executive producer is Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, who returns in those roles from the past three seasons.

Treyarch Explains Why Call Of Duty: Black Ops 7 Doesn't Have Wall-Running

Wed, 10/08/2025 - 01:46

While Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is adding wall-jumping to players' repertoire of advanced movement options, developer Treyarch isn't taking a page from its 2015 futuristic title Black Ops 3 by incorporating wall-running or Thrust Jumps for one simple reason: It's too early for that.

Speaking to GamesRadar, Treyarch associate creative director Miles Leslie reiterated that Black Ops 7, which takes place in the year 2035, is more of a direct follow-up to 2012's Black Ops 2, which took place in the then-far-fetched future of 2025.

"Since we knew we were going back into that timeline, Black Ops 2 really gave us a foundation for the technology available," Leslie said. Meanwhile, Black Ops 3 takes place further into the future in the year 2065, giving Treyarch some canonical limitations on where to take its Omnimovement systems. In other words, wall-running just isn't possible in the time Black Ops 7 takes place in.

Save $215 On The Lavish Lord Of The Rings Illustrated Box Set For Big Deal Days

See at Amazon See at Walmart

We saw a bunch of stellar deals on J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth novels and stories in the lead-up to Prime Big Deal Days, but Amazon fittingly saved the biggest discount for the big day (well, the first of two big days). The Lord of the Rings Deluxe Illustrated Box Set is on sale for only $108.30 at Amazon and Walmart. That's a $216.70 discount from the lavish box set's $325 launch price last October. Amazon's deal is exclusive to Prime members , but Walmart is matching the offer--no membership required. The $108.30 price is over $20 cheaper than the previous all-time low price of $132.

The Deluxe Illustrated Box Set is an absolutely stunning three-volume edition of LOTR's Centenary Edition illustrated by Alan Lee. As someone who personally owns this edition of The Lord of the Rings--sadly, I paid considerably more for my copy--I think all big Tolkien fans would love to have this in their collection. So if you have a Lord of the Rings fan on your shopping list, the Deluxe Illustrated Box Set would make for a wonderful gift this holiday.

The Legend Of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD Hits Lowest Price Of The Year

Wed, 10/08/2025 - 01:34
See at Amazon

If you're looking for an epic adventure to get you through the cold months ahead, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD on Switch fits the bill. While it's not as sweeping in scale as Tears of the Kingdom or Breath of the Wild, it'll still take a solid 40 hours to complete (and much longer if you want to unlock all its secrets). Best of all, the hit game is down to just $40 (was $60) for Prime Big Deal Days. This is by far the lowest price of the year, and it's close to its lowest price ever (the game hit $38.50 way back in 2023). Quantities are limited--at the time of writing, 24% had already been claimed.

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD (Nintendo Switch) $40 (was $60)

Skyward Sword was originally released for the Nintendo Wii in 2011. A decade later, it would be re-released on Nintendo Switch as Skyward Sword HD. Benefiting from updated graphics, simplified controls, an autosave feature, and a streamlined introduction sequence, it's arguably the best way to experience the iconic adventure. This deal is for a physical copy of the Switch game, but the offer won't stick around forever. We're expecting it to disappear at the end of Big Deal Days, though quantities are limited, and it very well looks like it'll sell out sooner. Note that Skyward Sword HD will run on both Switch and Switch 2.

Our Skyward Sword HD review awarded the game a 7/10, thanks to its clever dungeons, excellent story, and heaps of quality of life improvements that make it more enjoyable than its predecessor.

Netflix Announces A Clue Competition Series Based On The Iconic Board Game

Wed, 10/08/2025 - 01:18

Netflix has announced its latest project, and it's an unscripted competition TV show based on the popular Hasbro board game Clue.

In its announcement, Netflix said contestants will play roles like Colonel Mustard, Miss Scarlett, and Professor Plum as they face "physical and mental challenges." Like the board game, the goal of the reality competition series is to collect clues and try to figure out who is behind a crime.

This is not the first adaptation of the board game, as writer John Landis wrote the 1985 movie Clue starring Tim Curry, Christopher Lloyd, Michael McKean, Martin Mull, Lesley Ann Warren, Madeline Kahn, and Eileen Brennan. The film only made $14 million at the box office but found more success on home video. The film had three different endings, and different theaters got different endings; the home video release included all three.

Vampire Survivors Is Getting Online Co-Op For Up To Four Players

Wed, 10/08/2025 - 01:13

It's dangerous to go alone, so developer Poncle is adding online co-op to Vampire Survivors this fall. Up to four players can fight against the undead together in the roguelike game when version 1.14 drops later this year.

Poncle revealed the new online co-op mode for Vampire Survivors on YouTube. The trailer--seen below--shows how players can either create or join a lobby, with an ID number seemingly utilized to group up. It's unclear whether there will be cross-play at this time. "Free roam the stages whilst your friend struggles to find their way through Astral Stair, or maybe see if you can all survive Room 1665 ... More players doesn't make it easier, or does it," Poncle wrote in the video's description.

The Vampire Survivors video also features five different cards for version 1.14, with online co-op being the first one unveiled. Poncle stated that another announcement will occur next week. The developer teased that "we might finally answer a burning question that has been asked thousands of times."

Sonic The Hedgehog 4 Was Full Of Squandered Potential

Wed, 10/08/2025 - 01:00

Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is celebrating its 15-year anniversary today, October 7, 2025. Below, we look back at Sega's uneven attempt to revive the classic 2D franchise, and how it ultimately fizzled.

There's no denying the glaring flaws of Sonic the Hedgehog 4--the wonky physics, the blatant remixing (or one might even say "rehashing") of classic levels and bosses from the first two Sonic games, and the soundtrack's questionable and often derided soundfont being chief among them. But despite its problems, even 15 years later, I still find myself occasionally coming back to replay both episodes. Not only that, but dare I say, I enjoy myself.

The game certainly had its shining spots. I appreciate how, instead of every zone having the same hazards and obstacles scattered throughout, each act of each zone had its own distinct gimmick to help one stand out. For example, Casino Street Act 1 featured your standard pinball flippers, bumpers, and slot machine gimmicks. Act 2 shifted the focus to a new mechanic entirely: flipping around and racing across playing cards that act as platforms. The third act brings in colorful cannons that you can manually aim to shoot Sonic across the level. The game was darn pretty to look at, capturing the colorful aesthetic of the classic games with a modern sheen. And even though longtime Sonic composer Jun Senoue went a little too hard with the Genesis/Mega Drive synths for the music, it was still catchy as heck.

Nintendo Just Put Out A Weird Animated Short Film With No Explanation

Wed, 10/08/2025 - 00:20

Nintendo has fleetingly dropped some bombshell announcements on its Nintendo Today app, but the most recent drop is a real head-scratcher.

The gaming company shared a video on the app simply titled "Close to You," also uploading it on YouTube shortly after. Comments are turned off on YouTube, and the video description simply repeats the video title.

The animated video runs for almost four minutes and doesn't explicitly tie into any video game announcement; instead, it's a cute short film about a baby attempting to retrieve their pacifier.

Assassin's Creed Mirage Free DLC Takes Players Into The Valley of Memory

Wed, 10/08/2025 - 00:20

Since the release of Assassin's Creed Mirage in 2023, Ubisoft has added a New Game+ mode, a parkour update, a permadeath mode, and a PS5 Pro patch. But all of that pales to the amount of content coming next month when Ubisoft launches the free DLC expansion, Assassin’s Creed Mirage: Valley of Memory.

Ubisoft announced the expansion to celebrate the second anniversary of the game. During the Valley of Memory reveal stream, it was disclosed that this DLC will add around six hours of gameplay and story as Basim discovers that his father may still be alive. To find him, Basim has to journey to AlUla, an ancient valley that is overflowing with thieves and dangerous men.

In addition to the primary quest, Basim can accept new assassination missions and side quests. He can also play the oud once players earn music sheets by conquering parkour challenges. Ubisoft has also teased "a unique twist on Assassin’s Creed’s classic black box missions," without elaborating any further.

Wed, 10/08/2025 - 00:12

Battlefield 6's release on October 10 is coming up soon, and ahead of that, developer Battlefield Studios has announced the game's beefy day-one patch and teased naval warfare may be coming.

The game's day-one patch will have more than 200 changes, including bug fixes, balance improvements, and polish. The developer will publish the full patch notes later, but for now, the company released highlights, including that player movement will feel "more responsive" and that recoil has been rebalanced. Additionally, maps have seen some tweaks for the Rush and Breakthrough modes to help them have "better balance."

On top of all this, the Operation Firestorm map got some updates to improve performance, while Siege of Cairo's spawn-killing and out-of-bounds exploits will be fixed with the day-one update.

Call Of Duty Brings Back The Predator For Halloween Event

Tue, 10/07/2025 - 23:39

It is now October, which means spooky season has begun. A number of games are celebrating, including Activision's Call of Duty, which is bringing back The Predator for the first time in a long time.

The Haunting, which is the annual Call of Duty Halloween event, begins on October 9. A promo image for the event reveals a few things, including the return of The Predator and the fan-favorite MP40 gun.

The Predator has not been in a Call of Duty game since Call of Duty: Ghosts all the way back in 2014 via the Devastation DLC. The timing for The Predator's return may not be random, as 20th Century Studios is releasing the next Predator movie, Predator: Badlands, on November 7.

Haunted Chocolatier Release Date, Trailers, Gameplay, And Everything Else We Know

Tue, 10/07/2025 - 23:11

Haunted Chocolatier is the next game from ConcernedApe, the developer behind the massive indie farming sim, Stardew Valley. This has made Haunted Chocolatier highly anticipated, although little information about the game has been shared, beyond making it clear that it's a game where you move to a new town and take over a chocolate shop. ConcernedApe has said that it will share gameplay elements with Stardew Valley, but will be more of an action-RPG compared to Stardew Valley.

Table of Contents [hide]When will Haunted Chocolatier be released?

Haunted Chocolatier does not have a release date nor window at this time, and ConcernedApe has said that he doesn't intend on giving one until he's confident it's going to release. Haunted Chocolatier was originally announced via a trailer back in October 2021, roughly four years ago. In a blog post on September 12 discussing the announcement of Stardew Valley 1.7, ConcernedApe said his attention was still primarily on Haunted Chocolatier, even teasing that Haunted Chocolatier could arrive prior to Stardew Valley 1.7, but no guarantees.

Haunted Chocolatier trailer

Currently, the only trailer for Haunted Chocolatier is the reveal trailer shown above, and a couple of trailers featuring music from the game, but no additional gameplay. The trailer briefly shows a snowy mountain, with a bakery and other buildings, including your chocolate shop. From the chocolate shop, the player jumps into a portal, which takes them to a combat dungeon, which shows more in-depth combat mechanics. That portal is also where you gather chocolate ingredients, which can be used back at the chocolate shop to make products to sell in the store.

Splinter Cell: Deathwatch Creator Talks Respect For Sam Fisher, How It Differs From Marvel Work

Tue, 10/07/2025 - 23:08

The Splinter Cell: Deathwatch Netflix series releases in mere days, and it'll be the first time fans have gotten to see Sam Fisher in his own story--aside from a few books--in well over a decade. Now, the show's creator and showrunner Derek Kolstad has provided some insight into how he approached the material, and how little hand-holding there was from series owner Ubisoft.

Speaking to GamesRadar, Kolstad--best known as the creator of the John Wick series--contrasted his experience on Deathwatch with his time working on Marvel IP.

"I did Falcon and The Winter Soldier, and that's Disney," Kolstad said. "You're in a titanium tunnel--it's [still] a joy because you get to play in a sandbox filled with sand and play with their toys."

Battlefield Veteran's Studio Shuts Down, "But We Are Not Giving Up"

Tue, 10/07/2025 - 23:07

Battlefield veteran David Goldfarb's studio, The Outsiders, is closing down, but Goldfarb and the team are "not giving up."

In a statement, Goldfarb said The Outsider is shutting up shop as part of wider cuts at studio owner Funcom. The Outsiders, which was founded in 2015, had a close call at closing up shop when the studio's other game, Darkborn, was canceled in 2020, Goldfarb said. After that game didn't make it, Funcom took a majority ownership of The Outsiders. The studio then released the rhythm-action game Metal: Hellsinger in 2022.

"It will always be a high point for me personally and I will be forever grateful we got to make it and for the wonderful team and partnerships that made it happen," Goldfarb said.

Xbox's Canceled Project Ranger Was Meant To Challenge Uncharted

Tue, 10/07/2025 - 22:15

In 2013, Microsoft briefly showed off a teaser for a spy game codenamed Project Ranger, which was in development by Blue Tusk Studios--the studio that later rebranded itself as The Collective. Project Ranger was abandoned over a decade ago, but a new report has shed some light on what was meant to be Xbox's answer to Uncharted.

Liam Robertson's Did You Know Gaming channel has posted an in-depth look back at Project Ranger, which Microsoft and Black Tusk initially had high hopes for. Although the 30-second teaser took place in Shanghai, the report describes it as "Uncharted with spies," and a third-person action shooter that would have featured missions set in cities all over the world.

The project was said to be influenced by the Mission: Impossible movies, with a touch of James Bond through the gadgets that the player's character could use against his enemies. There was reportedly consideration towards giving the game some Kinect functionality, including the ability to use voice chat to get tips from the main character's handler. However, those controls would have also been available without using Kinect.

Tue, 10/07/2025 - 21:51

Bungie's long-in-development PvE shooter Marathon, which was delayed indefinitely back in June, has resurfaced with an upcoming test.

A closed technical test for the game will run in North America and Europe from October 22-27 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Players can sign up for the test now, but Bungie said it's "limited" in scope, so simply applying does not guarantee entry. Furthermore, anyone accepted to the test must sign an NDA that forbids them from sharing details about the test.

You can fill out the form on Bungie's website to sign up now through October 16 at 4 PM PT / 7 PM ET. PC players can sign up there or via Steam starting on October 13.
