More Xbox Games Could Be Releasing On Rival Platforms - Report

Tue, 01/09/2024 - 01:26

More of Microsoft's exclusive games are reportedly coming to other platforms, according to several rumors and reports.

Microsoft has been eying the possibility of expanding the reach of some of its first-party games. "Microsoft has been exploring bringing some of its back catalog to other platforms, although some of the details remain vague and unconfirmed," reported Windows Central.

Other sources, such as insider "Nate the Hate" and Resetera user lolilolailo, pinned Hi-Fi Rush as the most likely game to be coming to other platforms. Back in November 2023, Xbox CFO Tim Stuart said that Microsoft wants to make Xbox Game Pass and its first party games available on "every screen that plays games," and this also includes Nintendo and PlayStation.

The company pointed out how Adobe's popular editing software Photoshop now features a "generative AI" option that allows users to enhance and refine their creations. Wizards of the Coast added that "a human did the work to create the overall image."

YouTuber Builds A Nintendo PlayStation, Saves $300,000

Tue, 01/09/2024 - 01:14

If you're a PlayStation fan, you can thank Nintendo for its decision to ditch Sony and partner up with Phillips for its first CD-based console, ultimately leading to the greatest revenge flex of all time when Sony entered the gaming market with the PlayStation console. But before Nintendo's great betrayal, a prototype of a Sony-powered SNES console did exist. If you had enough cash, that device could have been yours for a little over $300,000.

That price tag might be a tad too high for most people, and fortunately, there is a more affordable alternative as demonstrated by YouTuber James Channel. All you need are old SNES and PlayStation consoles, knowledge on how to safely work with electricity, and a lot of hot glue to create your very own Nintendo-branded Sony CD-ROM console. A word of warning: If you're squeamish when it comes to seeing vintage console technology cut apart and Frankensteined into a hybrid device, you might want to look away before you click on the video below.

As demonstrated above, there are a few challenges to consider before you jam the internal hardware of a PlayStation into an SNES shell. A lot of superfluous material needs to be hacked off, but if you persevere and don't run out of hot glue, you too can put together your very own Nintendo PlayStation.

The Last Of Us Prequel Show About Frank And Bill Pitched To HBO, Nick Offerman Says

Tue, 01/09/2024 - 00:02

Nick Offerman, who appeared in HBO's The Last of Us and won his first Emmy on Sunday evening for his portrayal of Bill, has revealed that a prequel series about the post-apocalypse lovers Bill and Frank has been pitched. Offerman told Deadline that the team is "not short on ideas" for a prequel series about the lives of Bill and Frank before they met, fell in love, and died together.

"I would have to ask somebody with a higher pay grade than myself," he said. "It certainly has been pitched. I think we pitched a whole mini-series of a prequel of their lives before they met each other. It could be a musical. We're not short on ideas. We'll just we'll see what Craig [Mazin] and Neil [Druckmann] come up with."

Offerman won the Creative Arts Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series for his performance as Bill, marking Offerman's first Emmy award. Offerman was not even supposed to be in The Last of Us, as the role of Bill was originally given to Con O'Neill before he had to drop out due to scheduling issues.

Wizards Of The Coast Repeats Anti-AI Stance, Fights Accusation Against Latest Magic The Gathering Promo

Sat, 01/06/2024 - 12:04

Wizards of the Coast has once again found itself fighting accusations of using AI-created images. But instead of being accused of using AI for a Dungeons and Dragons book, people are convinced the company used AI to prompt cards for Magic: The Gathering. [Update: Wizards of the Coast has now backtracked and admitted that the image in question was indeed created in part using AI]

On January 4, the official Magic: The Gathering Twitter account shared a photo captioned: "It's positively shocking how good these lands look in retro frame. #MTGRavnica"

Thanks to PCGamer, we know that shortly after that was tweeted, some people began to suspect that the company had used AI yet again to promote one of its products. One user tweeted, "This looks very AI generated -- with some human photoshopping over the top." If you look through the replies, you'll find a lot of people expressing similar sentiments.

Watch Jason Statham Beat Up Baddies With Office Supplies In New Beekeeper Clip

Sat, 01/06/2024 - 06:45

For over 20 years Jason Statham has made out-of-the-box action movies with iconic fight scenes and eventually became an action movie icon in his own right. In his newest film, The Beekeeper, Statham is Mr. Clay, a former operative from a secret organization known as The Beekeepers. When Clay's friend (Phylicia Rashad) commits suicide after falling victim to a phishing scam, he sets out to exact revenge against the company behind the widespread scams.

Statham has carved out the action movie genre by doing more irreverent films like Crank and The Mechanic, The Beekeeper looks to help him keep that reputation by having a fight scene in an office space. Even unarmed, Clay takes down bad guys with office chairs and a phone. Check out the scene below.

"I'm a beekeeper," Statham explains as he prepares to unleash his own sting while pouring gasoline over computers. "I protect the hive. Sometimes I use fire to smoke out hornets."

Call Of Duty: MW3 Adds Meme Bundle That Pokes Fun At "Update Requires Restart" Prompt

Sat, 01/06/2024 - 06:40

The newest Call of Duty DLC bundle is available now, and it's a meme, basically. The centerpiece of the "Insert Coin Mastercraft" bundle for Modern Warfare III and Warzone is the Arcade Rhythm submachine gun, which features an animation on it referencing Call of Duty's infamous "update requires restart" prompt.

Call of Duty fans know this prompt all too well, and Activision is now leaning into the meme (and making money off it) with this DLC bundle. The animation not only displays the prompt but it also shows your soldier smashing the A button to advance through it and then throwing their hands out and bashing the weapon to express frustration over the issue. This might be too real for some. Here's the animation in action, courtesy of CharlieIntel.

The Insert Coin Mastercaft bundle, which costs 2,400 COD Points ($20), is themed around arcade games. The weapon has a green tracer effect and when you kill an enemy, they fall apart in little green blocks meant to represent pixels from games of old.

Baldur's Gate 3 Xbox Bans Over Explicit Clips Are Now Being Reversed

Sat, 01/06/2024 - 05:57

Baldur's Gate 3 players on Xbox banned for recording clips of some of the game's more explicit content should soon see their bans lifted, according to developer Larian Studios.

The issue recently came to light after a player posted on Reddit to warn other Xbox users about using the console's capture tools, in this case video recording, to record scenes involving, as they put it, "naked camp time fun." The player, Daddy-Vegas, received a ban for all three of their recorded clips, resulting in a ban of over a year total. Larian caught word of the bans and said it would work with Microsoft to remedy the situation, with the studio's director of publishing Michael Douse calling the whole ordeal "annoying and uncool."

Now, it looks like progress has been made. Douse on X (formerly Twitter) said he received confirmation that bans issued for recording explicit Baldur's Gate 3 content are being lifted and that discussions with Microsoft are ongoing in regards to its policies. The official Larian X account advised Xbox players in the meantime to turn off mature content before uploading clips of the game.

Netflix Games Could Lose One Of Its Best Benefits

Sat, 01/06/2024 - 05:48

Netflix currently offers its members a variety of video games, and one of the best perks is that none of the games have advertisements or micotransactions. That could change. According to The Wall Street Journal, Netflix executives are discussing how to better monetize its game offerings, and one of the possibilities reportedly under discussion is introducing ads and microtransactions.

The report said Netflix is also considering offering some "sophisticated" games for purchase or giving subscribers to Netflix's ad-based plan the ability to play games featuring ads.

One of the latest additions to the Netflix games catalog is the GTA: The Trilogy - Definitive Edition, which includes GTA 3, Vice City, and San Andreas. Netflix subscribers get all three games free, whereas everyone else on iOS and Android needs to pay $20 for each of them.
