Insights, Pathways, and Real-World Advice from Industry Experts and UTS Alumni
On Tuesday 1st July, UTS students filled the room for Your Career in Games Development, a key event in the 2025 UTS Tech Festival line-up. Designed to help students explore careers in games development, the session brought together a panel of industry professionals and recent UTS graduates for an afternoon of inspiration, insight, and connection.
Alongside seasoned industry experts, a number of graduates from the UTS Bachelor of Games Development returned to campus to share their journeys—from completing their degree to landing roles in the games industry. Their stories resonated deeply with current students, offering relatable perspectives on transitioning from study to studio.
The panel discussion covered a wide range of topics including how to break into the industry, the skills employers are looking for, and what it’s really like to work in games today. Speakers offered candid reflections on the highs and lows of their careers so far, demystifying the often-opaque pathways into the sector.
A lively Q&A session followed the panel, with students eager to ask questions and seek advice tailored to their own aspirations. The event wrapped up with informal networking, where attendees had the chance to connect one-on-one with the panellists—including UTS alumni—ask questions, and forge new industry links.
Your Career in Games Development proved to be a standout event of Tech Fest 2025—equipping students with practical knowledge, alumni insights, and real-world connections to help guide their future in games.
