Record-Breaking UTS Games Showcase Celebrates Nine Years of Student Innovation

The UTS Games Showcase 2025 marked a milestone in the university’s creative and technical calendar, drawing a record 534 registrations, the largest turnout in the event’s nine-year history.

Held on Tuesday, July 1st as part of the UTS Tech Festival, the showcase transformed Level 4 of UTS Building 11 into a vibrant hub of student creativity, collaboration, and industry engagement.

Hosted by the Faculty of Engineering and IT, the event brought together students, academics, alumni, game industry professionals, and the public to celebrate the work of emerging game developers across key subjects including Game Design Methodologies, Game Design Studio 1, Computer Graphics, and 3D Computer Animation. Projects ranged from experimental indie games and digital prototypes to physical board games and cinematic 3D animations.

This year’s showcase was proudly supported by Riot Games and MSI, whose representatives joined attendees in playing through projects and providing insightful feedback. The presence of these leading industry partners reinforced the event’s growing reputation as a launchpad for future professionals in games and interactive media.

With its highest attendance to date, the 2025 showcase affirmed its status as a cornerstone of Sydney’s student games calendar, a space where technical skill, design thinking, and storytelling intersect.

Throughout the evening, the energy was high as visitors explored the exhibits, engaged with student creators, and discussed the future of game development.

The event also served as a capstone for many students, giving them a rare opportunity to present their work to the public, receive external feedback, and build valuable professional networks.

Four standout projects were recognised with awards:

  • Best Game from Game Design Studio 1: Racoon Riot

  • Best Game from Game Design Methodologies: Overshadowed

  • Best Interactive 3D Animation Project: The Confusion of the Swamp Man

  • People’s Choice Award: Ruin Raiders

As the showcase continues to grow year after year, 2025 stands out not only for its scale but for its spirit — a reflection of UTS’s commitment to hands-on, industry-connected learning in games and creative technologies.
