Rainbow Six Siege Gets Huge Bump In Players After Siege X Launch
Rainbow Six Siege's "most transformative" update in the game's 10-year history, Siege X, went live this week. It was seemingly embraced by players, as the game's Steam numbers jumped significantly following the debut of Siege X.
Data from SteamDB shows a massive spike in players on June 10 with the Siege X launch, peaking at around 142,000 concurrent players on Steam. It's still below Siege's all-time peak of 201,933 achieved on May 17, 2024, but it's an impressive gain all the same as people returned to Siege or tried it for the first time to check out the Siege X update and all of its new features and functionality.
Siege is currently inside the top five best-selling Steam games and inside the top 10 most-played games. Steam shares this data publicly, but Microsoft and Sony do not share similar sales or engagement data for the Xbox and PlayStation stores.

The next game from Stardew Valley creator Eric "ConcernedApe" Barone will boast a larger world than the one in his farming simulator. But you don't have to take our word for it; Barone himself made this specific comparison for Haunted Chocolatier.
On X, Barone stated that: "The world of Haunted Chocolatier is larger than Stardew Valley." He would know, since in December, Barone noted he was creating Haunted Chocolatier similar to Stardew Valley. "I'm coding it (mostly from scratch) in C#, and I'm working solo in all areas," Barone said after reconfirming he resumed development on Haunted Chocolatier.
The world of haunted chocolatier is larger than stardew valley
— ConcernedApe (@ConcernedApe) June 11, 2025It seems like Barone is slowly but surely opening up more about his next game. Last month, the developer discussed how he wanted to focus on mystery and whimsy with Haunted Chocolatier. Barone sounds like he wants players to "let go of your desire to engineer the perfect chocolate" and instead just follow their intuition.
Continue Reading at GameSpotPlaying Resident Evil Requiem Left Me With More Questions Than Answers
Halfway through 2025's Summer Game Fest, Resident Evil executive producer Jun Takeuchi popped on-screen to acknowledge the anticipation of Resident Evil 9's reveal. "Bear with us a little longer," he said. "Just a blink of an eye more, and it'll be ready." And he wasn't kidding. By the end of the show, RE9, or Requiem as we now know it, was revealed, pulling the rug from under our collective feet. The trailer had raised numerous questions: Is the new protagonist, Grace Ashcroft, the daughter of Alyssa Ashcroft from Resident Evil Outbreak? Does it take place in a post-bombing, quarantined Raccoon City? And, most importantly, is it first- or third-person? In another surprise twist, I was able to get hands-on with the game for about 20 minutes, and while I got a few answers, I left with more questions.
Having now played a very small portion of the game, there's at least one question I can immediately answer: It's third- and first-person. At any point while playing, you can pause the game and switch from one perspective to another whenever you see fit, unlike Resident Evil Village, which added third-person post-launch and required you to start a separate save file to play it. Though I wish switching perspectives could have been done with the press of a button, this is still a marked improvement. Additionally, it's very clear that Capcom wanted Requiem to feel just as good in third-person as it does in its recent remakes of RE 2, 3, and 4. This is especially apparent in Requiem's cutscenes that are directed cinematically, seeing Grace interact within the scene, opposed to Biohazard and Village, which never broke that first-person perspective. That said, first-person is still recommended by the game.
Grace Ashcroft finding her with only a lighter. For this hands-on, I chose to play it in its recommended first-person perspective. Still, I took a moment to switch to third-person, and it felt very comfortable and comparable to the recent RE remakes. It's a far cry from Village's third-person mode, which did all it could to still obstruct protagonist Ethan Winters' face from ever being seen. Generally, I prefer third-person Resident Evil, but the section I played felt more appropriately suited for first (which I'll explain momentarily). Whether or not some sections later in the game will be better suited for one perspective over the other, we'll have to wait and see. If time had allowed it during my brief hands-on, I would have played the demo again entirely in third-person just to see. But alas.

Funcom looks to have a certified hit on its hands, as Dune: Awakening peaked at over 140,000 concurrent players on Steam for the game's official launch day. This came five days after the online multiplayer survival title was unlocked early on June 5 for people who purchased the $70 Deluxe Edition or $90 Ultimate Edition--which offered five days of "advanced access."
Dune: Awakening officially arrived yesterday, June 10, and immediately set a new record for itself with 142,050 Steam concurrent players, per SteamDB. A lot of people were already playing the game before then, too. Plus, Dune: Awakening is currently the top-selling game on Steam, with the entry cost being $50. On top of the strong numbers, Funcom rolled out a launch-day patch to address server stability and fix bugs.
For context, Dune: Awakening is proving much more popular than Dune: Spice Wars, which is a strategy title. The latter topped out with 8,397 concurrent players on Valve's storefront, according to SteamDB. As such, Dune: Awakening appears to be the biggest game ever for the Dune franchise--with four other games based on the sci-fi series coming out between 1992 and 2001.

In just under two months since its release, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has emerged as one of the most unexpected hits of 2025, with more than 3.3 million copies sold since late April. Now, developer Sandfall Interactive has shared a new patch for the game that gives players another chance to fight Simon, one of the most difficult bosses in the game.
Simon is an optional boss who can be found in The Abyss, and he has very few weaknesses. As part of the 1.3.0 patch, players can now get a rematch with Simon after beating him the first time. Assuming they can beat him, of course. It's not an easy fight by any stretch, and this undead warrior is a challenge even for veteran players.
Sandfall notes that the current patch addresses nearly 300 bugs that were found in the game, although it only lists a handful in the notes. According to the devs, a "general polish" was added across collisions, terrain, and scripting. The cutscenes should also scale properly across non-standard resolutions after this patch.
Continue Reading at GameSpotSwitch 2 Game Key Cards Are "Digital Sales" According To Capcom
Many third-party studios are offering their titles as Game Key Cards on the new Switch 2 console, and according to Capcom, it considers this format to be a digital sale.
During a Q&A session following its most-recent financial results meeting (via NintendoLife), Capcom had a succinct answer to a question about these Nintendo cartridges, as it simply replied that Game Key Cards "are recorded as digital sales" by them. That's Capcom's classification for the storage medium, but it's not known if other publishers and studios share this opinion.
The general mood over Game Key Cards has also been less than enthusiastic, as game preservationists have cited concerns around the format. Game Key Cards are essentially authentication keys for games, as users will still need to download the full game to their Switch 2 console when it's inserted. These cartridges aren't locked to a system, so if you decide to sell your game, it still holds resale value. Most third-party games on the Switch 2 are sold as Game Key Cards--likely due to the Switch 2 cartridge only offering 64GB of storage capacity--and only a handful of developers offer the full game on a cartridge alongside Nintendo's own first-party releases.

Dune: Awakening is finally officially released on PC after five days of premium early access for those willing to pay more for the privilege. The game briefly went offline after launch for patch 1.1.0.11 to be applied, mainly targeting improvements to servers and stability.
Despite requiring downtime, the 1.1.0.11 patch notes are brief. The changes detailed include "another set of changes to further improve the game server and client stability," and "more localization." The patch also fixes a handful of minor, but annoying, bugs.
Dune: Awakening has seen big numbers on Steam so far--even in its paid early-access period. At the time of writing, now that the game is officially released for all players, Awakening is the 10th-most-played game on the Steam Charts, with a 24-hour peak of 142,000 players. The game also has very positive reviews on Steam, though even the positive reviews note a bit of wonkiness with the game's current state, especially when it comes to performance.

During Summer Game Fest, Microsoft opened the final day with an Xbox Games Showcase that threw the spotlight on titles coming to Xbox Series X|S either this year or next. Following the presentation, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer briefly addressed the challenges of "running a good business" while remaining accountable to Microsoft's expectations for the division.
"Our jobs inside the company is to run a good business," said Spencer during his appearance on the official Xbox podcast. "We're accountable to Microsoft for running a good business--a healthy business that continues to grow at both top line and bottom line. That's kind of a foundation for us. And what that does is it allows us to continue to invest in Xbox for our community of players and creators and that we're doing. It does mean we have to make tradeoffs through the year on things that we're going to invest more in. [And] things that we're not going to invest as much in, because we are the business that we are. But the business is having really good success."
Spencer touted Game Pass as "having an amazing year" and praised Xbox's first-party games for their performance in 2025. It's worth noting that Spencer has used similar language about running "a sustainable business" to explain the closures of studios like Arkane Austin and Tango Gameworks. The latter was successfully revived by its new owner, Krafton, but other studios weren't as lucky and numerous devs lost their jobs.
