Fortnite Is Adding A Very Nice V-Bucks Feature Soon, But Not For PS5

Fri, 09/12/2025 - 03:04

Fortnite will soon allow players to purchase V-Bucks in the exact amount that they want: a feature that players have requested for years. Beginning October 14, Fortnite's shop will include an "Exact Amount" option that allows users to top up their V-Bucks balance to the precise amount needed for whatever they're trying to buy.

The Exact Amount option will be available in Fortnite, Rocket League, and Fall Guys across Xbox, Nintendo, PC, Android, iPhone, and the Fortnite web Item Shop. It's not supported on PlayStation, but Epic Games said, "We will work to make this available everywhere."

You can soon purchase the exact amount of V-Bucks that you need.

Exact Amount shopping will be available in Fortnite and Rocket League in increments of 50 and for Fall Guys in increments of 100. On October 10, anyone with a balance of Fortnite V-Bucks or Rocket League Credits will have their balances rounded up to the nearest 50. For Fall Guys, anyone with a balance will have their balances rounded up to the nearest 100.

Gorillaz' Classic Flash Game Site Kong Studios Is Back From The Dead

Fri, 09/12/2025 - 02:41

Flash games were everywhere in the late '90s and early 2000s, as they were an easy way to play games on the internet, no downloads required. Unfortunately, many of these games are now lost due to Flash having been discontinued in 2020, but others were lost even before then as they were harder to preserve. One such game was actually from the fictional musical group Gorillaz called Kong Studios, and in a bit of a surprise move, the game has been brought back to life.

The original Kong Studios arrived on the internet in 1998, and was the fictitious recording studio that Gorillaz made their albums in. You could wander round the studio, listen to some music, and discover hidden secrets, but the game was shut down in 2008. Except now it's back!

The news was shared on the official Gorillaz YouTube channel, and if you head to the site you can play a game inspired by the music video for Clint Eastwood where you have to fend off, well, gorillas in a first-person-shooter-style perspective as you make your way to Kong Studios.

New $50 Nintendo Switch 2 Handheld Controller Has Ergonomic Grips And Pro-Style Features

Fri, 09/12/2025 - 02:17
See at Amazon

If you're looking for an alternative handheld controller for Nintendo Switch 2, popular third-party manufacturer GameSir just launched a new budget-friendly option that's worth checking out. The GameSir X5s is a $50 Bluetooth mobile controller for Switch 1/2, iOS, and Android. It can hold devices measuring up to 8.38 inches and has several pro-style features and design elements that make it an intriguing substitute for Nintendo's Joy-Con 2 Controllers.

The X5s isn't officially licensed by Nintendo. At this time, there aren't any official alternatives, and options are slim in general. I haven't tested the X5s, but I have used the higher-end GameSir G8 Plus on Switch 2 and were impressed by the ergonomics and build quality. The G8 Plus retails for $80--though it's on sale for $70 at Walmart--and has a few additional features. At $50, the GameSir X5s sounds like a bargain.

Star Wars: Battle of Hoth Board Game Launches on Amazon

Fri, 09/12/2025 - 02:12
See at Amazon

There's no shortage of Star Wars-themed tabletop wargames, but the latest adapts The Empire Strikes Back's iconic opening battle on the frozen planet Hoth to a fast-paced board game format for two players. Star Wars: Battle of Hoth launched in August, and now it's finally available at Amazon for $60.

Star Wars: Battle of Hoth $60

This miniatures skirmish game is a two-player recreation of the iconic Battle of Hoth--one player controls the forces of the Rebel Alliance defending their base, and the other commands the Galactic Empire's attack force. The set includes 74 highly detailed miniatures based on rebel soldiers, Imperial Snowtroopers, and iconic vehicles like the T-47 Airspeeder and AT-AT Walker. The game is highly replayable, offering 17 unique pre-made scenarios and two dynamic multi-scenario campaigns to follow along with. Matches typically last around 30 minutes, so you can knock out a quick skirmish or roll through a bunch of different battles in a single game night.

See at Amazon Star Wars: Battle of HothGallery

Battle for Hoth isn't the only great Star Wars board game. Other options include the strategic matches of Imperial Assault, the traditional miniatures experience of Star Wars: Legion, and the squad-based combat of Shatterpoint. Many of these have several expansions, so if you're looking for a game you can constantly upgrade and evolve, be sure to give them a look.

You can also check out the role-playing adventures offered by Star Wars: Age of Rebellion and Edge of the Empire. Both are ideal for beginners, thanks to pre-generated character profiles and an adventure book that guides you through the entire quest. The Mandalorian Adventures, meanwhile, is a cooperative board game that has you working with your friends to complete missions inspired by the TV show. For something a bit less complicated, Star Wars Villainous lets you dive into the shoes of your favorite bad guys.

How To Increase Inventory Space In Borderlands 4

Fri, 09/12/2025 - 02:08

Are you wondering about how to increase your inventory space in Borderlands 4? Your character's backpack, as well as containers like the bank and lost loot device, can only carry a limited number of items. But, if you get a few upgrades, you won't need to worry about hauling a bunch of gear everywhere you go.

How to increase inventory space in Borderlands 4

You can increase your character's inventory space via the SDU menu. SDU, which stands for Storage Deck Upgrade, is somewhat akin to points or resources that you earn throughout your adventures. The SDU menu not only allows you to increase the capacity for the stuff you're carrying around, but also the maximum ammo for various types of weapons.

Hollow Knight: Silksong's PC Players Are Locked The Hell In

Fri, 09/12/2025 - 01:58

Hollow Knight: Silksong launched last week and immediately saw its highest engagement on PC via Steam. According to Circana's US Player Engagement Tracker, over 7% of active Steam users played Silksong on launch day, ranking it as the third-most-played game overall, just behind Helldivers II and Counter-Strike 2. It should be noted that it was on Steam that the original Hollow Knight gained its loyal following.

"It was anticipated that Hollow Knight: Silksong would have the highest initial appeal with the core enthusiast audience, particularly on PC. So far, that seems to have been the case," Circana's Mat Piscatella added. "On console, being on Game Pass certainly appears to have helped boost launch-day engagement on Xbox."

Looking at the stats for Xbox, Silksong managed to secure over 2% engagement, placing it at 12th overall. Now, this metric reflects active players, not total downloads or interest--so plenty may have grabbed it for later. PlayStation, on the other hand, saw under 1% engagement, coming in at a distant 55th place, but it was not available via any services like it was on Xbox. Without access to Nintendo platform data--which Circana's tracker currently doesn't cover--it's hard to gauge what could be the actual biggest player base in the future, especially since the original Hollow Knight had a huge Switch following as well.

Well, This ESRB Description Sure Is A Wild Ride

Fri, 09/12/2025 - 01:57

ESRB rating descriptions are often a way to glean tidbits of information about games that are yet to be released, as they will generally list aspects that explain why a particular title has received a certain age rating. Occasionally that means a small bit of story is revealed earlier than it should have. Other times, it results in sentences that are just straight-up confusing, which is very much the case for Baby Steps' ESRB rating. Potential spoilers ahead for Baby Steps!

If you've not heard of Baby Steps, it's the next game from QWOP and Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy designer Bennett Foddy. Published by Devolver Digital, the game puts you in the position of Nate, an "unemployed failson with nothing going for him," who discovers the ability to walk. He's not very good at it though, so much like Foddy's other games, it's all about controlling a character who doesn't move as you'd typically expect. It's definitely odd, but the game seemingly gets a lot odder.

Here's the ESRB rating description: "This is an adventure game in which players assume the role of a man transported to a mystical realm full of quirky and bizarre characters." Alright so far! "From a third-person perspective, players hike through different environments and interact with fantastical characters." Yep, no problem. "Some of these characters are depicted as human/donkey hybrids with exposed male genitalia." Come again?

Assassin's Creed Shadows Adds What We All Wanted: A Cat Dressed Like Ezio

Fri, 09/12/2025 - 01:33

Today, Ubisoft is updating Assassin's Creed Shadows to version 1.1.1, which not only addresses multiple bugs, but adds a mission that sets up the Claws of Awaji expansion launching on September 16. However, a new addition to the Animus Hub, called Sanctuary, is offering players something they may not have known they wanted: a cat companion dressed as iconic Assassin's Creed hero Ezio Auditore da Firenze.

The Sanctuary project in the Animus Hub will let players unlock four items based on the Assassin from the Italian Renaissance, with Rooftop Cat--a white cat donning Ezio's robes--included among them. We're hoping that not only can you hang out with this new Ezio cat, but you also can call it over by saying "requiescat in pspsps."

Project Sanctuary rewards for Assassin's Creed Shadows.

Projects within the Animus Hub are the Assassin's Creed equivalent of the "battle pass," where in-game experience unlocks cosmetic items that can be used in the main game. The full list of items included in the Project Sanctuary pass is as follows:

Valve's Gabe Newell Still Plays Dota 2 Every Day And People Call Him A Noob And Tell Him To Uninstall The Game

Fri, 09/12/2025 - 01:27

Valve's popular The International tournament for Dota 2 kicked off today in Germany, and company co-founder Gabe Newell addressed the crowd with some opening remarks in which he said he has grown to love the game and still plays it every day despite facing some online harassment.

"Before that first International [in 2011], I really enjoyed the game, but after The International, I loved the game. It's not just the game I love, but the community. Sure, people talk shit at me in chat and about once a week, people say, 'Hey, noob, uninstall the game and [bleeped out],' but that's really about their enthusiasm for the game and the energy that they bring. And that's why after all these years, I still play Dota every day," Newell said.

The first The International took place 14 years ago in Cologne, Germany, the same city where Gamescom is held annually. This year's event is taking place in Hamburg, Germany, and matches are underway now. Teams are competing for a share of millions in prize money.

Borderlands 4 Boss Suggests Reselling Fortnite Skin On Ebay, Which Might Get Your Account Banned

Fri, 09/12/2025 - 01:25

After seven years between games, Borderlands 4 is just around the corner. In the run up to the game's release, Gearbox President Randy Pitchford has said some off-the-wall things. But his latest remarks about potentially reselling a Borderlands-inspired Fortnite skin sounds like a surefire way to get banned by Epic Games.

On X, Pitchford recalled that the Psycho Bandit skin became an in-demand item on Fortnite, and suggested that flipping the Mad Moxxi skin on eBay may also prove to be lucrative.

Is it true that the pre-order incentive Psycho Bandit skin in became one of the most valuable skins in Fortnite sometimes fetching over $2k when trading on eBay? What are the odds this bundle becomes worth much more than the price of the game it is promoting? https://t.co/wQnLrXngfr

— Randy Pitchford (@DuvalMagic) September 7, 2025

It's true that the Psycho Bandit Fortnite skin was very popular in 2019, in part because it was only briefly available as a promotion for Borderlands 3. After appearing in the Epic Games Store for a limited time, Psycho Bandit wasn't officially available for purchase in Fortnite until it returned in April 2025.

Far Cry Franchise Will Emphasize Multiplayer More In Future, Ubisoft Says

Fri, 09/12/2025 - 01:24

Crafting more multiplayer features for the Far Cry franchise is reportedly a major push at Ubisoft. While the company hasn't officially announced a follow-up to Far Cry 6, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot recently stated that keeping players engaged in the series with multiplayer is a focus going forward.

Game File (via VGC) reports that Guillemot spoke at Saudi Arabia’s New Global Sport Conference and was asked about the Far Cry series. The Ubisoft executive noted that the objective "on Far Cry [is] really to bring the multiplayer aspects more predominantly pushed, so that it can also be played for a long time by players."

Earlier this year, a Far Cry multiplayer extraction game was reportedly rebooted, as resources were diverted to Far Cry 7. It's believed these are two different projects, with the extraction shooter being a standalone title. The extraction shooter apparently has an Alaskan setting as players attempt to survive the harsh environment, wildlife, soldiers, and other players.

Sorry, Sly Cooper Fans, But It Sounds Like Sucker Punch Isn't Making Another One

Fri, 09/12/2025 - 01:13

No matter how much you might want a new Sly Cooper game, it doesn't really sound like anyone at the original studio that made it, Sucker Punch Productions, is all that interested. Currently, the Infamous developer is preparing for the launch of Ghost of Yotei, which is due out at the start of next month on October 2. That game's co-creative director Nate Fox recently made an appearance on Minnmax where he was asked 125 rapid-fire questions. On the topic of Sly Cooper, Fox's response makes it pretty clear that right now, there are very few people at Sucker Punch who would want to make it.

When asked about what percentage of the studio Fox estimated would be excited if he said the next game after Ghost of Yotei would be a new Sly Cooper, he had this to say: "10%." After such a low figure was offered, interviewer Ben Hanson expressed his surprise, to which Fox responded, "It's been a long time, Ben, since Sly Cooper's come out."Back in 2022, a blog post from Sucker Punch even outright said there aren't any Sly Cooper games in the works.

Fox himself served as a designer on the original game--which came out way back in 2002--reprising this role for the following two games as well. But following the third game's release in 2005, there's only been 2013's Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time, which was made by Sanzaru Games, not Sucker Punch. So it's been two full decades since Sucker Punch made a Sly Cooper game, having released three full games in the Infamous series, and Ghost of Tsushima and Yotei in the meantime.

Black Myth: Wukong Update Addresses A Major Xbox Complaint

Fri, 09/12/2025 - 00:52

A new update for Black Myth: Wukong is out now and it addresses a key complaint about the recently launched Xbox version. The new update that arrived on September 10 improves the graphics on Xbox Series X, after people and graphics experts said the Series X version didn't deliver the best visuals.

This new patch fixes an issue "where graphics appeared blurry on Xbox Series X," developer Game Science said. The studio said global illumination ghosting for the game's Quality and Balance modes was to blame.

A report from Digital Foundry said the Series S version of Black Myth: Wukong had even bigger struggles, but this newest patch for the game does not mention the Series S. It was previously rumored that technical issues with the Xbox Series S were behind the delay of the game's port, which publisher Game Science denied. The Game Science team has acknowledged that bringing the game to the Xbox consoles was unexpectedly difficult.

Ghost Of Yotei Beer From Sapporo Includes This In-Game Item

Fri, 09/12/2025 - 00:40

Following the announcement of Borderlands 4 beer from Voodoo Ranger comes another beer-related gaming announcement: Sapporo has created special Ghost of Yotei beer packaging to celebrate the game's upcoming launch.

Available in stores across the US now are new packaging materials for popular Sapporo varieties of cans and bottles. It's the same Sapporo beer, but in specially designed packaging to promote the game. And to that end, the packages come with a QR code that players can activate to unlock an in-game reward when Ghost of Yotei launches on October 2 for PS5.

The in-game reward is "The Charm of Hokkyokusei," which features Sapporo's famous star logo. Hokkyokusei is the Japanese term for the North Star, and this connects back to Sapporo lore, as the company's original brewmaster was said to have followed the North Star to Germany where he learned how to make beer. In the game, using the charm gives players a "minor chance" to "not consume ranged weapon ammo when equipped," according to the announcement.

Rapper bbno$ Is In Borderlands 4, Kind Of

Fri, 09/12/2025 - 00:24

Canadian musician bbno$ is everywhere right now. Pronounced 'baby no money,' and definitely not 'bibinos,' he's collaborated with everyone from the VTuber Ironmouse through to producer Y2K. Several of his tracks have gone viral on social media platforms such as TikTok, including the likes of "Edamame" which was used in the trailer for The Garfield Movie, and "U Mad?" which appeared in CS:GO promotional materials. Now, we've spotted a possible reference to the singer-songwriter in none other than Borderlands 4.

Baby No Money? Baby Yes Money!

As part of the game's achievements and challenges, we spotted "Baby Yes Money," which rewards you for collecting increasing amounts of cash during your travels through Kairos. It's either a reference to bbno$ or an incredible coincidence, but with the musician's career going from strength to strength and his new album on the horizon, we prefer to believe it's the former.

Borderlands 4 will be released tomorrow, September 12. In our Borderlands 4 review, Jordan Ramée says the starting lineup of Vault Hunters is the best yet, but the "repetitive" enemy designs and "dull" side quests let the game down slightly.

Online Safety Laws Are Apparently Causing Some Studios To Rethink Their Games' Features

Fri, 09/12/2025 - 00:24

Earlier this year, the UK's Online Safety Act forced digital game storefronts like Steam and Itch.io to ban or hide certain forms of adult content, with Steam even adding on an age-verification requirement when viewing said content. This same bill has also led Xbox to enforce age verification starting from next year in order to use certain social features. Now, it sounds like game developers are rethinking how they incorporate online features in their games, with some studios apparently considering doing away with certain "user-to-user" modes.

The Game Business recently spoke with Isabel Davies, a lawyer at media, technology and IP law firm Wiggin, about how this growing trend of online safety laws are affecting the way games are made. She spoke of the importance of risk assessments when it comes to things like children being exposed to potentially harmful content, and how there are simple options like not suggesting users add random strangers to their friends lists, or to not allow messages from strangers either.

But Davies also shared that some studios the law firm has spoken with are considering if user-to-user modes are worth the investment. "I've spoken to some already [that are doing that]," Davies said. "Or, they've gone 'We will do it, but maybe not at launch.' A good example will be … let's get the core game monetization loop working, let's make sure the gameplay is good. And only then invest in clan functionality or chat functionality etcetera.
