Donkey Kong Bananza Character Leak Spurs Speculation Over DK Lore

Wed, 04/09/2025 - 21:49

A Donkey Kong Bananza promotional image posted by Nintendo Korea may have accidentally revealed one of the game's major characters--a young girl who looks suspiciously similar to Pauline.

As picked up by GamesRadar, the character's appearance in the Nintendo Korea box art has led to a flurry of speculation as fans try to decipher what role Pauline might play in the game, and whether her young appearance means Bananza is in fact a prequel.

For those less familiar with the extended Mario/Donkey Kong universe, Pauline is a side character who first appeared as the iconic damsel in distress in the 1981 Donkey Kong arcade game. While she disappeared from the games for some time after that, she reappeared as the mayor of New Donk City in Super Mario Odyssey, and has since become a regular character in Mario spin-off titles.

Assassin's Creed Shadows Patch Notes Reveal New Quality-Of-Life Updates And PS5 Pro Upgrades

Wed, 04/09/2025 - 02:51

The next big title update for Assassin's Creed Shadows is now live, and according to the patch notes, it adds numerous quality-of-life upgrades, improvements to the PS5 Pro version, and addresses several bugs. Depending on the platform you're playing on, the patch ranges in size from 9GB to 19.5GB. The full patch notes are below, but there are some spoilers in them to watch out for.

Ubisoft says that it has focused on various game improvements, like an auto-follow option for players when they're on horseback. While this function was present in several of the previous Assassin's Creed games, it was absent when Shadows launched in March. To use it, players can activate the pathfinder feature to enable auto-follow to a marked destination. Horse speeds in cities have also been increased, but you'll still want to watch out for pedestrians so that you don't anger the local authorities.

Other highlights of the patch include the option to tag and sell/dismantle multiple items in shops or at the hideout forge, the ability to reset Mastery nodes in the skill trees, and a new shortcut for direct access to the investigation board. If you're playing the game in Performance mode, the Hideout will no longer be capped to 30fps when you visit it.

Yes, Hollow Knight: Sillksong Will Launch On Both Nintendo Switch And Switch 2

Wed, 04/09/2025 - 02:49

One of the developers behind the long-awaited Hollow Knight: Silksong has clarified that the indie Metroidvania will launch on both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 when it finally does come out.

Because we've waited so long for this game and most recently saw it in a Switch 2 presentation, that can make one wonder if Hollow Knight: Silksong is now a Switch 2 exclusive. "Just to clarify...Hollow Knight: Silksong is coming to both Nintendo Switch AND the Nintendo Switch 2," Matthew Griffin, a member of Team Cherry's marketing and publishing team, explained on X.

Hollow Knight: Silksong is infamous due to the long gap between its announcement and release. Developer Team Cherry first revealed the sequel to Hollow Knight at E3 2019 and even showed off extended gameplay during a Nintendo livestream. The game then disappeared for years before reappearing at Microsoft's 2022 Xbox Games Showcase, where it was teased that it'd be out within the year. That didn't end up happening.

Legal Issue Preventing Vampire Survivors From Getting Cross-Save On PlayStation Consoles

Wed, 04/09/2025 - 02:38

A free update is on the way to Vampire Survivors this month, and while it will add cross-save support on PC and Xbox consoles, PlayStation owners won't be receiving the feature. According to Vampire Survivors developer Poncle, cross-save support for PS4 and PS5 won't be included in the update due to a legal issue.

"We're sorry to say [we] won't be able to bring the Vampire Survivors cross-save feature to PlayStation 4 and 5 alongside our next update," Poncle explained on the game's Threads account. "Last month, we told everyone that cross-save would be available on PlayStation 4 and 5, PC, Xbox, Android, and iOS alongside our next free Vampire Survivors update in April. But at [the] last minute, we've run into a legal issue on PlayStation we weren't aware of, that requires us to share info on our partners that we're unable to."

While PlayStation cross-save support isn't being ruled out entirely, Poncle did add that chances of it coming to the consoles remains "slim" for now, but it is working on resolving the issue with PlayStation. The update will be coming to PC, Xbox, and PlayStation consoles first, and then to Nintendo Switch at a later date. The Apple Arcade version of Vampire Survivors might also get the update, if it can be done without breaching any privacy commitments, Poncle noted.

Glover, the 1998 3D platformer starring a glove with four fingers who likes to roll around on a colorful rubber ball, recently received a new physical edition for Nintendo Switch. Published by Limited Run Games, Glover initially sold out at Amazon when the retailer listed it a couple months back, but it's back in stock now for its normal $35 price. Glover has been sold out on Limited Run's storefront since last year, so you have another opportunity to revisit this bizarre platformer that tends to draw strong reactions due to its cumbersome controls and steep difficulty spikes.

You’ll roll through 30 levels and six different worlds, each one featuring the same retro graphics as the original game.

Just like the original, there’s also a bunch of power-ups and weird characters to encounter during your journey. Despite its flaws Glover has become something of a cult classic over the years--so if you’re interested in checking out the Nintendo 64-era 3D. platformer and like to own physical games, snag a copy while you can.

AEW's Speedball Mike Bailey Pays Tribute To Chrono Trigger With This Costume

Wed, 04/09/2025 - 02:30

"Speedball" Mike Bailey is one of AEW's brightest new stars, having already lit up the independent scene across the world, and was recently a champion in TNA Wrestling. At Sunday's pay-per-view, Bailey was a participant in a triple-threat match for the International Championship--which featured Ricochet and Kenny Omega--where they debuted gear designed to look like Frog from Chrono Trigger.

Designed by famed gear maker Sway Archer, who does all of Bailey's gear, Bailey wanted to pay tribute to Frog in his biggest match yet.

"I am often smaller than my opponents. I have had terrible luck in my pro wrestling career that forced me to take a more difficult path than many others," they told GameSpot. "My martial arts training has taught me to always be humble and respectful. Glenn was cursed and is now a frog, yet he remains an accomplished fighter and a hero. I think our paths are very similar. It's that same story that I want the audience to see in 'Speedball' Mike Bailey."

Re-Releases Of The Original Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 And 3 Could Be On The Way

Wed, 04/09/2025 - 02:27

Re-releases of the original Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and 3 look to be coming, as ratings for cross-gen editions of "MW2" and "MW3" have appeared online thanks to the Australian Classification Board.

Via Insider Gaming, each game predictably received Australia's MA 15+ rating. They were classified on April 3 with MW2 specifically mentioned as being a PS5 cross-gen edition. The MW3 entry doesn't mention PS5 specifically but is listed as being cross-gen as well.

No other details about the games were revealed aside from them coming from Activision Blizzard and a production date of 2025. While it wasn't explicitly clarified or confirmed that these two titles are the re-releases or remasters of the original MW2 and 3 from 2009 and 2011, the fact that each game listing uses the numbers "2" and "3" as opposed to the modern Modern Warfare reboots' roman numerals does point towards these being new versions of the Xbox 360 and PS3-era titles.

Canadians Can't Buy The Switch 2 This Week Either

Wed, 04/09/2025 - 01:39

The Nintendo Switch 2 was supposed to be available for preorder this week, but current events surrounding tariffs caused Nintendo of America to announce an indefinite delay in preorders while it evaluates the situation. At first, that delay only included the US, but today Nintendo of Canada has announced that preorders in Canada will also be pushed back from their original April 9 date.

A statement from Nintendo of Canada was sent to multiple press and retailers confirming the move, stating that the delay was to "align with the timing of preorders to be determined in the US." The statement also confirms that the announced June 5 launch date for the console is "unchanged."

Nintendo Switch 2

The preorder delays come after US president Donald Trump announced sweeping tariffs to be implemented against nearly every other country in the world. Minecraft's In-Game Movie Event Gives You More Time With The Garbage Man

Wed, 04/09/2025 - 01:17

There is still time to defend Midport Village from an onslaught of piglins. Developer Mojang has decided to extend Minecraft's live event that's based on A Minecraft Movie. Originally, the limited-time experience was going to end April 7, but now it will run until 2 PM PT / 5 PM ET on April 14.

On X, the official Minecraft account announced the extension because of "unprecedented demand and yearning for the mines." What Happens If You Press The Switch 2's C Button Without NSO? Now We Know

Wed, 04/09/2025 - 00:46

Prior to the Switch 2's official unveiling, one of the biggest unanswered questions about the console was what the heck the C button was for. Now we know it's for the console's new GameChat feature. We recently had a chance to ask Nintendo senior director Takuhiro Dohta a question about the button, and we've also learned what happens when you press it and don't have a Nintendo Switch Online membership.

Since the C button is used to connect to an online service, we asked Dohta what happens if you press the button and your console is not connected to the internet. He didn't tell us exactly what happens, but he confirmed it won't do anything... bad.

"Sorry, I can't get into the details of what exactly pops up or shows up when you press the button [when you're not online], but just rest assured nothing bad's going to happen," he said.

Switch 2 Is Unaffordable To Some, Nintendo Admits, And It Might Soon Get More Expensive

Wed, 04/09/2025 - 00:30

With Switch 2's $450 price tag, some have expressed that it's unaffordable. Well, Nintendo of America president Doug Bowser agrees, saying that those who can't afford it can still play the original Switch. Due to the recent Trump tariffs, it's also possible that Switch 2 could become more expensive in the US.

"We recognize there are some people that may not be able to afford [the Switch 2's] price point," Bowser explained in an interview with CBC. That's why we wanted to make the other Switch platforms available, so [people] still have an opportunity to come into our gaming universe, be a part of these characters in these worlds, and see value, if you will, in whatever rung of the platform they come in."

Nintendo has defended Switch 2's price point, saying that the cost of everything goes up, and also that its new features justified it. Nintendo has also previously stated that Trump's tariffs were not factored into the price itself. Preorders of Switch 2 were delayed in the US as Nintendo reconsiders tariffs and market conditions, so some have theorized that the system might actually end up becoming more expensive.
