Nintendo Passes $100 Billion Market Valuation Ahead Of Switch 2 Launch

Wed, 05/07/2025 - 23:33

Wario must be proud, because Nintendo is now worth more than $100 billion based on share prices. Nintendo Wire spotted that the house of Mario hit the market-cap milestone (again) and now sits as the seventh-largest Japanese company from the same criteria.

It would seem that the upcoming launch of Switch 2--alongside Mario Kart World--has propelled Nintendo's market cap for this year so far. For instance, FinanceCharts.com shows that the company had roughly a $76 billion market cap (outstanding shares multiplied by stock price) to start 2025. While we knew Nintendo had a Switch successor in the works, it wasn't until January 16 that Switch 2 was revealed.

In February, Nintendo surpassed a $100 billion market valuation for the first time ever, hitting an all-time high of roughly $107 billion on February 19, per FinanceCharts. There have been some notable fluctuations since then. As an example, Nintendo's market cap was $83 billion mere weeks ago on April 23. That date stands out for being Switch 2 preorder eve in the US. The system sold out immediately on April 24.

How To Find Minecraft Bees And Get Honey

Wed, 05/07/2025 - 23:31

As one of the neutral Minecraft mobs, the bee will happily buzz about its business unless you decide to attack it or its nest. The Minecraft bee's business is, much like real-life, pollinating nearby flowers. If they're successful in that task, they'll return to their nest or beehive and add honey to it.

Table of Contents [hide]How to get a beehive

Usually, a bee nest will spawn with three bees inside it. When a birch or oak tree grows naturally, it will also have a chance to have a bee nest on it, depending on the biome you're in. Those chances are:

  • Meadow - 100%
  • Plains - 5%
  • Mangrove Swamp - 5%
  • Flower Forest - 2%
  • Forest - 0.2%

They can also spawn in cherry groves, although the percentage isn't currently known. Oak, birch, and mangrove trees grown from saplings within two blocks of a flower have a 5% chance to grow with a bee nest. These bee nests may be home to between one and three bees.

8 Horror Subclasses Join Unearthed Arcana For Dungeons And Dragons 2024

Wed, 05/07/2025 - 23:08

Horror stories and Dungeons and Dragons are two great tastes being brought together with the latest Unearthed Arcana playtest. Wizards of the Coast has recently announced eight new horrifying and macabre subclasses as part of their latest Unearthed Arcana playtest.

Two of these subclasses are brand-new to D&D in general, while the other six are updated versions of subclasses that previously existed in D&D 5e. Game designer Mackenzie de Armas, along with D&D influencer and content creator Todd Kenreck, go into depth about what each class can do in the video below. It should be noted that, like all UA releases, these are also all in the early stages of development, and players can leave feedback by May 13.

Okay, so before we get into the six updated classes--all of which were first added to 5e in expansion books Xanathar's Guide to Everything, Tasha's Cauldron of Everything, and Van Richten's Guide to Ravenloft--let's take a look at the two new subclasses: Reanimator (Artificer) and Hollow Warden (Ranger).

EA Reacts To $80 Games, Isn't Planning To Follow Suit Yet

Wed, 05/07/2025 - 21:50

With Nintendo announcing Mario Kart World as an $80 launch game for the Switch 2 and Microsoft also confirming that its first-party titles will be sold at the same price, it looks like gaming is about to get a lot more expensive. Similarly to how base video game prices increased from $60 to $70 starting in 2020, other publishers will likely start to charge more for their products, but EA isn't currently planning to join this trend.

During a Q&A session of its Q4 and FY2025 earnings conference call, EA was asked whether it would adopt a similar approach to other companies and adjust its "pricing power" for key IP in the future. "Our business is very different today than it was even just 10 years ago," EA CEO Andrew Wilson explained.

"In a world where everything we did 10 years ago was about selling shiny discs in plastic boxes in retail shelves, well that's still a part of our business. It's a significantly smaller part of our business, and we now have pricing representing everything from free-to-play all the way to deluxe editions and beyond. At the end of the day, whether we’re doing something that costs a dollar, or we're doing something that costs $10, or we're doing something that costs $100, our objective is always delivering incredible quality and exponential value to our player base. And what we've discovered over the course of time is whether we can marry quality and value together, our business is strong, resilient and continues to grow."

Payday 3 Just Underwent A Major Change

Wed, 05/07/2025 - 21:40

Payday 3 developer Starbreeze Studios has announced that it has reached an agreement with Plaion to acquire the publishing rights to the game. The company says that this deal will allow it to accelerate its content-development plans for Payday 3, and "pursue broader strategic opportunities" for the Payday franchise.

To secure the deal, Starbreeze issued $3.4 million in new shares--representing 10% of its outstanding share capital--with the bulk of the sales going toward repaying Plaion under its previous Payday 3 agreement and settling "certain outstanding" claims. Interestingly, Starbreeze has hinted at new Payday projects in its announcement, as it'll continue to work with Plaion on "future Payday franchise" projects as part of its long-term strategy.

Following on the heels of the successful Payday 2, Payday 3 got off to a rocky start when it launched in 2023. The game was beset with various technical issues, low player numbers, and a mandatory online-only requirement that proved to be very unpopular with the Payday community. Starbreeze's CEO Tobias Sjogren left the company in 2024 and the studio announced plans to improve the game through various patches as part of an effort titled Operation: Medic Bag.

EA: Battlefield 6 Launch Window "Clearer Than Before" Following GTA 6 Delay

Wed, 05/07/2025 - 21:34

Battlefield 6 is one of the key new releases in EA's lineup for the next fiscal year, but Andrew Wilson isn't concerned about it competing with GTA 6, the CEO revealed in EA's latest earnings call--and the latter game's recent delay to May 2026 likely has a lot to do with it.

EA announced during its presentation that the next Battlefield will launch within fiscal year 2026, meaning it should be here sometime before March 2026. In the Q&A following EA's briefing, Wilson was asked his thoughts on the change in release window for the "big major expected release," clearly referring to GTA 6, which was recently delayed to May 2026.

"Typically today, games take many years to build and develop," Wilson began his answer, explaining why it's not a simple task to move release dates around based on events like the GTA 6 delay. "It's unlikely that if you weren’t already ready to launch in this window, it may be hard to get ready and take advantage of what might be otherwise a less competitive window than we may have anticipated earlier."

Bungie May Have Fixed Destiny 2's Most Frustrating Problem

Wed, 05/07/2025 - 21:22

If you've ever played Destiny 2, you'll be familiar with the creeping overwhelm that can happen when returning to the game after a while, or if it's your first time playing. There are a lot of menu options, quests, triumphs, challenges, and more all housed within a complicated UI that many people seem to struggle to navigate easily. I recently returned to the game after a three-month hiatus and found myself blindly clicking to find the menus I needed--and that's as someone with more than 3,000 hours in the game.

During a reveal stream for the new expansion, The Edge of Fate, Bungie also outlined many quality-of-life upgrades and updates coming to the game. The most notable of these is a complete overhaul to the game's UI, which is now known as the Portal.

The new Portal in Destiny 2

The Portal is a streamlined activity-selection screen, instantly showing the activities available at that time. There are different subsections within the Portal depending on the type of activity you want to play. These are split into Fireteam, Pinnacle, Crucible, and Solo Ops sections. Solo Ops is a new category that splits off smaller, shorter, self-contained gameplay sessions for those who want to play without the need for a fireteam.

Tomtoc Releases Nintendo Switch 2 Version Of Its Popular Form-Fitting Travel Case

Wed, 05/07/2025 - 08:15
See at Amazon See at Amazon See at Amazon

Carrying case and travel bag manufacturer Tomtoc has been a popular choice for Nintendo Switch and Steam Deck users for years. Now, like many other third-party companies, Tomtoc has launched its first options for Nintendo Switch 2. The manufacturer is known for its sleek, hardshell cases as well as its range of stylish shoulder bags, and the pair of Switch 2 Tomtoc products showcase exactly that. Tomtoc's Carrying Case and Crossbody Sling Bag are available to ship now from Amazon.

Tomtoc's hardshell case has quickly vaulted to the top of Amazon's list of the best-selling Nintendo Switch cases, and is pretty high up on the bestsellers list for gaming in general (as of May 6). With preorders for Nintendo's official Switch 2 carrying cases currently sold out, Tomtoc's cases will likely continue to be popular as we inch closer to the Switch 2's June 5 launch.

Tomtoc Hardshell Carrying Case for Nintendo Switch 2 $33.30 (was $37) with coupon

The Switch 2 version of Tomtoc's signature design, this hardshell case offers a form-fitting, sleek design. Tomtoc used water-resistant felt materials to provide a soft feel on both the outside and inside of the case. While you'll still want to carry your Switch 2 around carefully, if Tomtoc's Switch and Steam Deck cases are any indication, this Switch 2 case should provide ample protection. The precision fit, shock-absorbing cushions, and materials, which Tomtoc claims are lighter and sturdier than EVA, should keep your console snug and safe, whether it's bouncing around inside your backpack or (hopefully not) tumbling toward cement.

Other useful features include a sturdy buckle, an adjustable wrist-strap that can also double as a handle, and space to store up to 12 game cards.

Normally $37, you can save 10% on the price by clicking the coupon box below the price. There are three color options: black, gray, and white.

Tomtoc's other option gives you enough space to carry your Switch 2 and several accessories. This crossbody bag is also constructed from lightweight materials, and inside you'll find a dedicated compartment for your Switch 2. This section is crafted with an EVA hard shell to help shield against collisions, and there's a soft lining to help protect the Switch screen from any scratches.

You'll also find enough space here for a Switch 2 Pro Controller, up to eight game cards, a charger, and space for smaller accessories like additional cables and earphones.

You can also get a 10% discount on this bag by clicking the coupon on the page listing. Three color options are available: black, two-tone gray, and a red and white edition.

If you have multiple large gaming handhelds, Tomtoc also offers a bag that is shaped to hold a Switch 2 or one of several mobile PC gaming handhelds like the Steam Deck or ROG Ally X. This plush shoulder bag has a removable EVA insert designed to protect your handheld from drops as well as plenty of space for accessories. Unlike the two options above, this Tomtoc bag isn't a brand-new release, but it's worth mentioning here because of its versatility and standing as one of Tomtoc's most popular travel bags.

The three cases above are just the tip of the Switch 2 iceberg when it comes to third-party accessories for Nintendo Switch 2 at Amazon. Some of the highlights here include hardshell carrying cases designed to offer a more durable option at an attractive price, like Spigen's Rugged Armor Protective Case/Grip for $30 at Amazon. JSAUX, another popular manufacturer of Steam Deck and Switch accessories, also just released a range of Switch 2 accessories for budget-friendly prices.

Battlefield 6 Will Be Fully Revealed This Summer, Launching By March 2026

Wed, 05/07/2025 - 07:37

EA and developer DICE have been running playtests for the next Battlefield game for several months, but we still don't know much about what's to come. That will change soon, as EA has shared during its May 2025 earnings call that it will fully unveil the next Battlefield this summer.

This announcement will come ahead of Battlefield's launch, which EA states will occur by the end of March 2026. CEO Andrew Wilson further shared that the development of Battlefield remains "on track," and that the company's changes in testing and iteration have allowed it to better prepare for a worldwide deployment.

DICE has periodically shared updates about its areas of focus during Battlefield's development process, such as efforts to improve environment destructibility and weapons balancing. However, specific information about gameplay mechanics, changes from Battlefield 2042, and especially the single-player mode have been kept under wraps.

Battlefield 6 Devs Expanding Playtesting Soon, Share Details On Progress

Wed, 05/07/2025 - 06:15

The next Battlefield game is currently in development, and developer DICE has shared that it will be expanding its playtesting program soon. Battlefield Labs, DICE's effort to include players at early stages of the game's multiplayer mode development, will be inviting more people to join testing throughout the month of May.

DICE published an update on X detailing Battlefield Labs progress so far, highlighting that participants have already enabled the developer to increase stability and balance throughout many aspects of the game. Most notably, DICE will shortly be adding new waves of participants to the work in progress, starting with prospective players in North America and Europe and then expanding to Asia later. Battlefield Labs began public access back in March with a very small set of playtesters, so this will likely mark a significant increase in the number of people getting hands on with the game.

The studio also noted that playtesting has helped achieve "smooth, low-latency gunplay," balancing movement speed across "crouch sprint, combat rolling, and vaulting," and improving the gameplay impact of environmental destruction. In the near future, DICE will be focusing on collecting feedback and iterating on weapon balance, as well as continuing to refine destructibility.

Original GTA Designer Mike Dailly Praises Rockstar Delay After New GTA 6 Trailer

Wed, 05/07/2025 - 05:42

Mike Dailly, one of the designers for the original GTA and a co-founding member of Rockstar North, said Rockstar made the right decision to delay GTA 6 after seeing the upcoming game's most recent trailer. Dailly made the comments on Bluesky, where he also praised the development team for not giving into greed and releasing a game that the studio knew could be improved.

Dailly said Rockstar undoubtedly knew GTA 6 would've sold exceptionally well even if it launched in a less-than-ideal state and called the studio's choice to delay it for extra polish "impressive."

"Now that's more like it," Dailly said in his post. "That environment is lovely, and things are moving much better… Even if they'd released it broken, it'd still have sold hugely. So it's even more impressive they took the decision to delay it. Kudos."

Stanley Kubrick's The Shining 1,400-Page Compendium Is Finally Back In Stock

Wed, 05/07/2025 - 05:38
See at Amazon

The wildly ambitious 1,396-page compendium dedicated to Stanley Kubrick's classic adaptation of Stephen King's The Shining is finally back in stock. This two-volume hardcover set has been very difficult to find since first going up for preorder late last summer. Though Amazon's listing now says the box set was published in March, some lucky fans received their copies last fall near its original publication date. The important detail: As of May 6, Amazon estimates orders will be delivered in about a week.

If you're interested in adding Stanley Kubrick's The Shining to your bookshelf, you might not want to wait too long. Earlier this week, Amazon estimated a one- to two-month wait for delivery. Produced by luxury art book publisher Taschen, the compendium is packed with writings from some of Hollywood's biggest directors, behind-the-scenes details on the film's production, and more.

Stanley Kubrick's The Shining Compendium (Hardcover Box Set) $125

This massive 1,396-page, two-volume set was edited by Lee Unkrich, the Oscar-winning director of Pixar films Toy Story 3 and Coco, and co-director of Toy Story 2, Monsters, Inc., and Finding Nemo.

The first book in the collection features written reflections on the film and its importance by author J.W. Rinzler with a foreword by acclaimed director Steven Spielberg. You'll also find insights from cast and crew members based on hundreds of hours of exclusive interviews with the cast and crew.

The second book is a photo album featuring hundreds of photographs, concept art, letters, in-depth looks at deleted scenes, and never-before-seen production documents from Kubrick's personal collection.

Both books were designed by M/M Paris to evoke the look and feel of The Shining's set design and art direction.

Stanley Kubrick's The Shining compendium originally launched in 2023 as an exclusive collector's box set limited to just 1,000 copies for $2,500--it still sold out quickly with that price. The recent retail version was reconfigured into a slimmer, albeit still enormous, two-volume set.

GTA 6's Jason: Does He Even Lift, Bro? Here's How Much He Can Bench

Wed, 05/07/2025 - 04:56

The new Grand Theft Auto VI trailer illuminated many new details about the highly anticipated open-world game, including the fact that main character Jason is absolutely shredded. The trailer opens with a shirtless Jason climbing down off the roof after doing some repairs. A close-up of Jason reveals he's got cannons for arms, a built back, and some impressive chest gains.

But how much can Jason bench? A sequence later in the trailer shows Jason on the beach, throwing up some impressive weight. In the trailer, we see Jason benching what appears to be 275lbs. Using weight plates from the amazingly fictional brand "GAINZ," we can see the outer-most plate is 25lbs. The inner ones look like 45-pound plates, so all of that weight combined with the bar (we are assuming it's the standard 45 pounds) and that comes to a mighty 275 pounds.

No matter what anyone says, a 275-pound bench is impressive. In gym and lifting culture, a bench press of 225 is the standard for what aspiring lifters hope to achieve. Given Jason's general buff-ness, I'm not surprised to see him putting up more, and having a well-rounded physique in general.

Great New Sci-Fi Horror Novel Is Inspired By Polybius Arcade Urban Legend

Wed, 05/07/2025 - 04:43
See at Amazon

One of gaming's most fascinating urban legends becomes reality in a new novel published last week by Simon & Schuster imprint Gallery Books. Polybius, the debut novel by Collin Armstrong, transports readers to a small town during the golden age of arcade machines. Unfortunately for the citizens of Tasker Bay, the new game at their local arcade is about to wreak havoc on their daily lives. There are surprisingly few novels from major publishers centered around video games, and this one is definitely worth a read. Polybius is a fast-paced and thrilling tale that mixes psychological horror with sci-fi.

Polybius is available now in hardcover ($29), ebook ($15), and audiobook format ($13.64 or 1 Audible Credit). Amazon included Polybius on its list of the best sci-fi and fantasy novels of May 2025.

Polybius: A Novel by Collin Armstrong $29

The novel regularly switches narrative perspectives, but the main characters who drive the plot forward are teenagers Andi and Ro. Andi is a part-time employee of Home Video World, and Ro is a regular at the arcade who crushes on Andi from afar.

When Home Video World acquires a new arcade cabinet of unknown origins, players, including Ro, immediately become transfixed by the advanced graphics and gameplay. Though not a gamer herself, Andi is a programmer with experience fixing the machine boards. After observing the obsessive and concerning behavior from Polybius players, she opens the cabinet to learn more about its tech and code. Believing the game is dangerous, Andi and Ro begin searching for the answers they need. All the while, Tasker Bay descends further into madness with each passing day.

Polybius does a great job of turning the town of Tasker Bay into a compelling character of its own. Armstrong accomplishes this, in part, by utilizing numerous third-person perspectives beyond Andi and Ro, including Home Video World's sketchy owner, the town doctor (Andi's mom), the sheriff (Ro's dad), and multiple of Andi's and Ro's friends. These subplots are interspersed throughout, giving the novel a panoramic structure that showcases the different ways in which Polybius creates pandemonium.

Even as someone who was already well-versed in the Polybius urban legend before reading the novel, the story's strong execution more than makes up for those "spoilers." That said, if you don't know the ins and outs of the urban legend, which dates back at least 25 years, you might as well read the novel without any additional research. I'll leave it at that.

Bestselling horror author Richard Chizmar compared Polybius to Stranger Things in a blurb that appears on the dust jacket. After reading all 352 pages in two late-night marathon sessions, I can definitely see the similarities between Tasker Bay and Hawkins. And just like Stranger Things, amidst carnage and chaos, Polybius feels like horror-sci-fi comfort food.

How Much Are Those Fancy Copper Pans From The Last Of Us? A Lot

Wed, 05/07/2025 - 04:28
This story contains spoilers for HBO's The Last of Us.Isaac loves a good frying pan.

In the newest episode of HBO's The Last of Us, Jeffrey Wright's character, Isaac, tortures a prisoner with a frying pan by burning his captor's hand with it. But it's not just any frying pan--it's a Mauviel.

This is a very high-end cookware company founded in France back in 1830. Isaac gives a tense monologue to the prisoner, a Seraphite/Scar, telling him he struggled talking to women but was good at cooking so he would prepare food to impress his dates.

He says he was good enough to use quality tools but didn't have the money. So he would go to Williams Sonoma stores and stare at Mauviel cookware, dreaming of one day--long into the future--being able to afford a Mauviel saucepan. In the end, Isaac was right, "just not how I planned."

This Charming Metroid- And Zelda-Inspired Game Is Getting A Physical Release

Wed, 05/07/2025 - 03:56
Preorder at Amazon Preorder at Walmart

One of last year's best and most inventive metroidvanias is getting a physical release this summer. Crypt Custodian, one of the few games in the genre played from a top-down perspective, is slated to launch on August 29 for Nintendo Switch and PS5. It originally launched as a $20 digital-only title for all three console platforms and PC, but like many physical releases these days, Crypt Custodian is skipping Xbox. Fans can preorder Crypt Custodian's physical edition at Amazon or Walmart.

Crypt Custodian Physical Edition $30 for PS5 | $35 for Switch | Releases August 29

This simple release gets you the base game on your platform of choice. There are no preorder bonuses or extra content included, but you do get a boxed copy of the game to add to your collection.

The PS5 version costs $30, while the Nintendo Switch edition goes for $35.

Preorder at Amazon Preorder at Walmart

Crypt Custodian is the latest game from Kyle Thompson, the same developer behind two other excellent metroidvanias, Islets and Sheepo. While it continues the metroidvania gameplay design of those previous games, Crypt Custodian changes up the perspective to a top-down presentation akin to Hyper Light Drifter and classic Zelda games rather than a side-scroller. Players take the role of Pluto, a deceased cat who is now a janitor in the afterlife. The game features a varied, interconnected world to explore that's filled with upgrades to collect, secrets to uncover, and bosses to take down. Along the way, players will also complete side quests for the other lost souls stuck in limbo.

If you're looking for physical editions of other recent indie metroidvanias, the psychedelic side-scroller Ultros is also getting a physical Switch release on August 28, and preorders are available now. A physical PS5 version of Ultros already launched and is available now, including a Deluxe Edition that includes three art cards, magnets, a digital artbook, digital soundtrack, and more.

GTA 6 Preorders Are Not Yet Open

Wed, 05/07/2025 - 03:49

Grand Theft Auto VI now has a release date and a new trailer, so it's understandable to think that Rockstar Games might have opened preorders for the open-world crime game. For other games, a publisher might begin preorders after confirming a release date and posting a flashy trailer to capitalize on the hype. But no, that's not the case for GTA 6.

Although we now know GTA 6 is set for release on May 26, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, retailers are not yet taking preorders. You should avoid any retailer currently trying to take your money to reserve the game, as it's likely a scam.

Rest assured, when Rockstar announces preorder details for GTA 6, we'll report back with all the details. In addition to a standard version, it's expected Rockstar will offer premium-edition versions of the game, just like it did with GTA 5.
