Microsoft Confirms No $80 Xbox Games After All

Thu, 07/24/2025 - 00:09

Microsoft announced earlier this year that it would begin charging $80 for some of its new games, including The Outer Worlds 2. However, that's no longer the case.

Obsidian has announced that The Outer Worlds 2 will launch at $70 for the standard edition. A spokesperson for Microsoft told IGN that none of its games will be $80 this holiday. To be sure, no game from Microsoft beyond The Outer Worlds 2 was announced with an $80 price point (though some theorized Black Ops 7 would be $80), but in any event, Microsoft won't charge that much for any title this year.

"We're focused on bringing players incredible worlds to explore, and will keep our full priced holiday releases, including The Outer Worlds 2, at $69.99--in line with current market conditions," the spokesperson said.

Borderlands 4 On Switch 2 Will Run "Mostly" At 30FPS, Will Also Support Joy-Con Mouse Controls

Wed, 07/23/2025 - 23:41

Following the confirmation that Borderlands 4 will launch on October 3 for Switch 2, Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford has revealed a few more details about this version of the game. Responding to fans online, Pitchford said that Gearbox is aiming for the game to run at 30fps on Switch 2, but "intense" moments will see dips in performance. Pitchford also briefly confirmed that Borderlands 4 will support the Joy-Con 2's mouse mode.

"It was important to us to not cut anything and to support cross-play with other platforms," Pitchford explained. "It'll be mostly around 30fps, with some dips in some intense moments [of] heavy combats or if hosting a multiplayer game in handheld mode, etc."

Anyone looking to buy a physical copy of Borderlands 4 for Switch 2 will also have to clear some space on the console, as Pitchford suggested that it might be sold as a Game-Key Card. "It's a big game. There will be a download, even for physical copies," Pitchford wrote.

New PS5 System Update Includes A Nice Controller-Pairing Feature

Wed, 07/23/2025 - 23:01

The next PS5 system update is coming soon, and it adds a new wireless controller-pairing feature, while Sony also discussed a "Power Saver" mode that's coming later.

In a blog post, Sony said the DualSense controller and other PS5 peripherals were designed to support PC, Mac, and mobile devices, and the new update makes it easier to pair controllers to multiple devices simultaneously. This should make it "easier to switch between them without needing to pair each time," Sony said.

With the update, players can pair up to four devices simultaneously. Currently, users have to pair each time they connected a controller to a different device. As an example, Sony said you'll be able to take your paired DualSense controller and "seamlessly" switch to PC or a smartphone.

Resident Evil Movie Reboot Director Wants The Film To Feel Like The Games

Wed, 07/23/2025 - 22:36

Resident Evil is lurching back into theaters next year in a new film by Barbarian and Weapons director Zach Cregger. In an interview, Cregger spoke about how he grew up playing the Resident Evil games, and how that love for the Capcom franchise has guided his vision for this new film adaptation of it.

"I played all of the games. I played Resident Evil 4 a hundred times through. I'm obsessed with it. And so, I just want to tell a story that feels like it's honoring the experience you get when you play the games," Cregger said to ComicBook. "I haven't seen the movies; that's just not my thing. But the games are my thing. That's just a playground I just love--I think the movie is going to rip."

All but one of the previous live-action Resident Evil films were directed by Paul WS Anderson. They were very loose adaptations of the games, remixing ideas from them with original storylines centered around Milla Jovovich's character of Alice. Cregger doesn't want to be slavishly obedient to the lore of the games, but as he explained in a separate interview earlier this month, he isn't planning to break "any major rules" of the franchise with his spin on it. Overall, the director says that he just wants to "tell a story that just feels authentic to the experience you get when you play the games."

PlayStation's Biggest New Game Of 2025 Is A Former Xbox Exclusive, Analyst Says

Wed, 07/23/2025 - 22:19

According to one gaming analyst, the best-selling new PlayStation 5 game based on copies sold is Microsoft's Forza Horizon 5. Microsoft launched the game on PS5 at the end of March this year, and it recently eclipsed 3 million copies sold on PS5 to become the console's best-selling game of 2025, according to Alinea.

The research company said the recent sale on Forza Horizon 5 on PS5, which brought the price down to $45, helped the game surpass 3 million sales on Sony's platform.

Alinea added that Forza Horizon 5 is a juggernaut on Xbox, reaching more than 45 million players on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S through sales and Game Pass downloads. The game is reportedly performing well on Steam, too, reaching 6.5 million copies sold, Alinea said.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Star Admits He Hasn't Played The Game Yet

Wed, 07/23/2025 - 22:01

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 debuted earlier this year to critical acclaim, including praise for the performance of the voice cast. Charlie Cox--who is perhaps best known for playing the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Daredevil--lent his voice to the game as Gustave. Cox has previously shared that he isn't a gamer, and he still hasn't played the game. But it sounds like he's ready to change that.

During a recent appearance at Galaxy Con (via Kotaku), Cox noted that the last game he played was Super Mario 64 for the Nintendo 64 nearly three decades ago. But after hearing so much praise for Expedition 33, Cox wants to experience it for himself.

#Daredevil Actor Charlie Cox, at #GalaxyCon — "I need to play to play #ClairObscur: Expedition 33."

"I want to play the game," said Cox. "I need to play the game. I need to get a console first, and then I need to play the game ... I'm so happy for these guys because they're not like a big company that makes a ton of games. And I hear it's a frontrunner to win Game of the Year or something. It's really cool."

Preorders Are Live For The New My Hero Academia: All's Justice Fighting Game

Wed, 07/23/2025 - 10:12

Easily one of the most popular manga and anime of the last decade, My Hero Academia is getting a brand-new video game that'll cover the final arc of this beloved comic book-inspired series. Called My Hero Academia: All's Justice, the 3D fighting game is planned to launch on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X in the near future. While we're still waiting on a release date, preorders for the game are already live, and you can reserve a physical copy for $60 at multiple online retailers.

My Hero Academia: All's Justice $60 | Release date TBA

Like its predecessor, 2020's My Hero Academia: One's Justice 2, My Hero Academia: All's Justice is a 3D fighting game that features the students of Call 1-A going up against an assortment of villains led by the main antagonist All For One's adopted son and successor, Tomura Shigaraki. The big draw here is the sheer size of the game's roster, as it looks like just about every character from the show will be present and ready to throw down. Players assemble a team of three characters who can be switched out seamlessly during fights, allowing for special attacks to be chained together. When combined with the new "Rising" gameplay system, these heroes and villains can dish out a significant amount of damage during combat. The game also looks fantastic in action, as the reveal trailer showed off slick cel-shaded graphics.

So far, only a standard edition has been announced for All's Justice, and no preorder bonuses have been confirmed. However, we'll update this post if any additional versions or preorder incentives are announced. Physical PS5 and Xbox Series X copies are available to preorder at Amazon, Walmart, and Best Buy.

If you're unfamiliar with My Hero Academia, the series began as a manga written by Kōhei Horikoshi and was then adapted into the now-popular anime series. My Hero Academia takes place in a world where certain people have superpowers, known as "Quirks." This has given rise to a new era of superheroes who protect the people from villains who use their quirks for crime, and the greatest of these public defenders is All Might. The series' protagonist, Izuku Midoriya, dreams of becoming a hero, but was born without a Quirk. However, a chance encounter with All Might allows him to inherit the ailing hero's powers, which makes him eligible to enroll at the prestigious UA Academy for upcoming superheroes.

My Hero Academia quickly became a smash hit in print and on TV thanks to its likeable everyman protagonist, colorful supporting cast, and a Japanese take on western comic books, and it will be interesting to see how the new My Hero Academia: All's Justice 3D fighting game will adapt the elements and expand upon the previously released 3D MHA fighting games released so far.

How To Get The Free Chevrolet Corvette In Fortnite And Rocket League

Wed, 07/23/2025 - 07:33

Epic Games' Summer Road Trip, a special event taking place across both Fortnite and Rocket League, has returned for a second time, and it's bringing with it another free licensed vehicle that players can unlock via quests. This year's free car is a Chevrolet Corvette ZR1--a much more appealing vehicle than last year's big reward, the Tesla Cybertruck.

As with last year's version of the event, the Summer Road Trip offers quests to unlock the Corvette in both Rocket League and Fortnite. You don't need to play both games, though, because both sets of quests unlock the car. There are, however, additional rewards that are only earnable through each game, so if you want to get all the free stuff, you will have to play them both.

Most of the rewards for these quests, including the car, will land in the item shops of both Fortnite and Rocket League after the event ends. But the Corvette has an exclusive decal, the ZR1 Circuit decal, that will only ever be available by earning the car during this event.

Monster Hunter Wilds' Summer Fest Features Water Gun Fights, Swimwear, and Giant Corn Guns

Wed, 07/23/2025 - 03:39

Monster Hunter Wilds is continuing the series' tradition of seasonal updates with its upcoming Flamefete Festival to celebrate the summer. The event will run from July 23 to August 6 and features tons of unique content to complement the hottest time of the year.

As is typical, the event will run in-game for about two weeks and kick off with new summer-themed quests, but the big festival itself will take place in the Grand Hub. That means that players need to have at least reached Hunter Rank 16 to access the social area, which was added to the Wilds' in its first title update this spring.

The Grand Hub will be redecorated and feature a new summer-themed meal as well as playable minigames, like throwing a beach ball around. Additionally, there's a water gun emote that briefly turns Monster Hunter Wilds into a third-person Super Soaker shooter, and Capcom seems to be encouraging players to party up and throw down in the Grand Hub throughout the festival.

Call of Duty Season 4 Outro Teases Avalon, But It's Probably Not What Players Think

Wed, 07/23/2025 - 03:38

Call of Duty Season 5 arrives to Black Ops 6 and Warzone next month, and the new Season 4 outro cutscene teases future story implications for the Black Ops team. The clip is also themed heavily around the location of Avalon, leading players to once again speculate that it could be the location of Warzone's next map.

As seen in the video below, the Season 4's outro shows Woods and Adler preparing to leave Avalon. Pantheon has collapsed, and the team is fully pardoned and ready to go home. Woods is on a call with Sev, who says she's not leaving with them. She's going to stay in Avalon and guide local factions now that Pantheon is gone.

With the codenames finally cracked, Pantheon has collapsed. Woods and his team are coming home to finish the job... with one exception. The future of Avalon is unwritten. pic.twitter.com/3jrEhKDBbh

— Treyarch (@Treyarch) July 22, 2025

Call of Duty's seasonal outro cutscenes usually tease a continuation of post-launch story for the next season, so some players are suggesting this could be a teaser to confirm the long-rumored Avalon map for Season 5 of Warzone.

Ubisoft Claims Its Microtransactions Make Games "More Fun"

Wed, 07/23/2025 - 03:16

Ubisoft recently affirmed its commitment to microtransactions, not only as a business model but as something that makes games "more fun." The publisher has faced criticism from both players and press in the past for its implementation of features like paid XP boosts in its single-player games. Nevertheless, Ubisoft has boasted some major hits in its single-player portfolio over the last new years. Assassin's Creed Valhalla or Assassin's Creed Shadows were both financial successes.

As part of its most recent annual report (via Eurogamer), the publisher restated its intentions to continue implementing microtransactions in full-priced single player games and otherwise. The report expresses a desire to "respect the player experience" and to use "sustainable" monetization. The report's rhetoric attempts to strike a balance between centering microtransactions as part of the company's financial strategy while reassuring players that they won't go too far.

It states, "the golden rule when developing premium games is to allow players to enjoy the game in full without having to spend more." That statement seems to be at odds with the sentence that follows, "Our monetization offer within premium games makes the player experience more fun by allowing them to personalize their avatars or progress more quickly." While allowing players to buy progression boosts does not equate to locking content behind a paywall, it does allow for designing a grind-heavy experience that encourages players to pay up.

Borderlands 4 Switch 2 Release Date Announced, And It's Not Long After Other Versions

Wed, 07/23/2025 - 03:08

Borderlands 4's release date for Switch 2 has been announced, and it's sooner than some might have thought. The game debuts on September 12 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, and it's coming to Switch 2 on October 3, Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford said in a social media post.

Some had theorized or feared that Borderlands 4's Switch 2 version might release later in 2025 or possibly in 2026, but that's not going to be the case. Gearbox and 2K Games said from the start that Borderlands 4 would not come to Switch 2 alongside the other versions.

An episode of Creator's Voice from Nintendo about Borderlands 4 confirmed that the Switch 2 version was made in-house at Gearbox as opposed to being produced by an outside developer.

2XKO, Riot's League Of Legends Tag Fighter, Enters Closed Beta This Fall

Wed, 07/23/2025 - 01:00

The tag-team fighting game space is getting a bit crowded these days, as both Invincible Vs. and Marvel Tokon: Fighting Heroes were announced in June for release in 2026. Riot Games, meanwhile, has been working on a tag fighter of its own in 2XKO, and today the team has a new update for its League of Legends fighting game: A closed beta test is set to begin in September, and it will include a new roster member in Vi, the star of Arcane: A League Of Legends Story.

The 2XKO closed beta will begin September 9 on PC, with Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 versions to follow "at a later date." The beta will feature cross-progression, however, which will allow players who prefer consoles to transfer their progress to the console of their choice with "no lapse in progress or inventory."

Vi, as seen in 2XKO.

The closed beta will also introduce Vi--the fiery pugilist LoL champion and star of the Netflix series Arcane: A League of Legends Story--as the eighth member of the playable roster. Vi will also be included in a new playable demo build at Evo 2025, which is set for August 1-3 in Las Vegas.

PokePark Kanto Will Let You Experience "Real" World Of Pokemon In 2026

Wed, 07/23/2025 - 00:10

The wait won't be much longer to visit Sedge Town and Pokemon Forest, where you can see a group of Pikachu hanging out in the woods. That's because PokePark Kanto is slated to open in early 2026, with advance ticket sales starting later this year for the Tokyo-based attraction.

The new PokePark Kanto details were shared as part of today's Pokemon Presents livestream. According to The Pokemon Co., this will be "the first permanent outdoor Pokemon attraction" ever. It's built upon two main areas--the previously mentioned Sedge Town and Pokemon Forest--and sits on 26,000 meters of land at Yomiuriland. The Pokemon Forest aims to show Pokemon in natural settings, while Sedge Town will see trainers and Pokemon sharing space together.

One interesting note about PokePark Kanto is that it's not set in a Universal theme park. Super Nintendo World opened at Universal Orlando earlier this year, with similar Mario parks at Universal Studios Hollywood and Japan.

Until Dawn Dev Expecting To Cut Jobs, Directive 8020 Delayed

Wed, 07/23/2025 - 00:10

Supermassive Games has announced another round of layoffs and has delayed its next Dark Pictures game. In a statement shared on social media, Supermassive said it's cutting staff against the backdrop of a "challenging and ever-evolving environment" in the video game industry.

"As we adapt our team structure to better align with these changes, we've had to make the very difficult decision to begin a redundancy consultation process where we anticipate losing up to 36 of our colleagues," Supermassive said. "This decision was not taken lightly, and we know this will be an incredibly difficult time for everyone. Our absolute priority will be to offer full support to those affected."

The restructure has "no impact" on the making of Little Nightmares III, Supermassive said, but the same cannot be said for Directive 8020, which is the latest entry in Supermassive's The Dark Pictures Anthology.

Nintendo Switch 2 Pokemon Legends: Z-A Console Bundle Revealed

Wed, 07/23/2025 - 00:03

Nintendo has unveiled a Switch 2 holiday bundle featuring its biggest exclusive game launching this fall: Pokemon Legends: Z-A. The upcoming $500 bundle comes with a digital copy of the highly anticipated new game and the Switch 2 console. The bundle releases October 16 and should be available to preorder soon at the Nintendo Store and select major retailers.

Nintendo announced the bundle directly after the latest Pokemon Presents stream, which featured a new mobile and Switch 1/2 game called Pokemon Friends as well as other charming reveals.

Nintendo Switch 2 Pokemon Legends: Z-A Bundle $500 | Releases October 16

This bundle is essentially replacing the Mario Kart World launch bundle, which has always been listed as a limited-time bundle expiring this fall. An exact end date for the Mario Kart Switch 2 bundle hasn't been revealed, but it seems likely that it'll be gone when the Pokemon bundle hits store shelves on October 16.

Just like with the Mario Kart bundle, this bundle saves you money versus buying the $450 console and $70 game separately. You're getting a $20 discount by opting for the bundle. But unlike Mario Kart World, Pokemon Legends isn't a Switch 2 exclusive; the game will also be available on the original Switch for $60.

Google Has Some Fun When You Search For The Live-Action Legend Of Zelda Actors

Wed, 07/23/2025 - 00:00

Following the casting news for Nintendo's upcoming Legend of Zelda film, Google decided to add a little Easter egg to its browser. When you search for Benjamin Evan Ainsworth and Bo Bragason, who are going to play the adventurer Link and Princess Zelda, respectively, you get something more, along with the usual info.

Typing in those actors' names into your search bar, on mobile and desktop, it will show you some images, their Wikipedia pages, social media accounts, and news of the casting, but also a little nod to their upcoming roles.

When you search for Link actor Ainsworth, you will notice a message that reads: "KYAAAA! HYAAAAA!", just like the noises Link makes as he slashes his way across Hyrule and around the world. There's also a small male elf emoji next to it for a nice touch.

Minecraft - A Complete Guide To Crops

Tue, 07/22/2025 - 23:30

Minecraft farming is a great way to make sure you have plenty of food and resources at your disposal. In this guide, we'll explain all the different crop types, where to find seeds, and how to plant each type so you can get the most out of your farms.

Table of Contents [show]
  • How farming crops works in MinecraftHow farming crops works in Minecraft

To start farming, you'll need some seeds and dedicated farmland. Most seeds won't grow in regular dirt, so you'll need to do some work to it before you can start a farm. It's best to protect your designated farm plots with a fence to keep out any unwanted mobs.

How to make farm plots9x9 farmland example with one water block in the center

First, craft the hoe tool, which allows you to turn dirt blocks into farmland. You can then place most types of crops in the game in these blocks of land. You'll also need a water source, but you don't need a lot to water the crops. One block of water will hydrate a 9x9 section of farmland when you place the water in the center square.
