CoD: Black Ops 6 And Warzone Season 2 Trailer Reveals Brand-New Maps, Dual Katanas, And Zombies Staffs

Thu, 01/23/2025 - 01:48

Season 2 arrives in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Warzone on January 28. Activision has revealed the season's new gameplay trailer, which features new multiplayer maps, more DLC weapons, and operator skins. The trailer also gives a first look at gameplay and Wonder Weapons for the upcoming Zombies map.

While most of the post-launch content for Black Ops 6 has forgotten about the game's '90s setting, the Season 2 trailer includes a remixed version of Bush's 1996 hit "Machinehead." Season 2 is themed around ninja-esque operators who are dual-wielding katanas, as seen in the trailer below.

One of the multiplayer maps shows gameplay inside a car dealership, which is simply called Dealership. Another multiplayer map features a super-yacht that looks similar to the Hijacked map from Black Ops 2, but this is apparently a new yacht map called Lifeline. A third map is called Bounty, but we don't get to see much of the setting. These three maps will arrive at launch, while two additional maps will drop during the midseason.

Death Stranding 2 Crosses New Development Milestone As Deadpool Actor Finishes Scenes

Thu, 01/23/2025 - 01:33

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach remains in development and has crossed a milestone. Hideo Kojima has announced that Deadpool actor Shioli Kutsuna, who plays Yukio in the Marvel series, has finished her scenes for the game.

"Thank you so much for your hard work! Despite the challenges of the pandemic, she handled 3D scanning, performance capture in LA, and both English ADR and Japanese voice recording across various locations. Great job, and much appreciated!" Kojima said (via GamesRadar).

Actors Yasuyuki Kase and Yasuki Kase also finished their scenes, and Kojima thanked them as well. He also presented both Kase and Kutsuna with flowers, as you can see in the image below. While some actors have concluded their work on the game, that doesn't mean the game is done. "The game remains in development," Kojima said.

Chappell Roan's Idea Of A Fun Night Involves Eating An Edible And Playing Video Games

Thu, 01/23/2025 - 01:02

Chappell Roan, like so many of us, loves video games and specifically Fortnite. In a new interview, the "Hot To Go" singer discussed her appreciation for video games and called on Epic to give her a Fortnite skin of her own someday.

Fortnite already has a "Hot To Go" emote, and Roan teased that a new emote inspired by her song "Good Luck Babe" might also come to Fortnite. But she really wants her own skin.

"That is what I am going to use this interview for," Roan said. "Please give me a skin. Please."

Switch 2 Video Reveals How Snappy Joy-Con Removal Works

Thu, 01/23/2025 - 01:00

Last week's official reveal of the Switch 2 confirmed several new features of the hybrid Nintendo console, including a new approach to Joy-Cons that'll attach to the device using a snappier method. But how does it work exactly? On the Switch 2 website, Nintendo showed off this design in slightly more detail, revealing how the controller attaches and detaches from the console.

Similar to the first iteration of Joy-Cons, hitting a dedicated button will detach the controller. It's not entirely clear which mechanical function this button affects, but judging by the design of the Switch 2, the animation suggests that the magnetic charge is switched off.

This little button will quickly detach the Switch 2 Joy-Cons.

In comparison, the original Switch Joy-Cons used a rail system to slide the controllers in, which were kept in place by a small plastic anchor point. These rails did tend to break down over time--one of several flaws of the Joy-Con alongside the common issue of joystick drift--so it is hoped that the reported magnetic attachment system provides a stronger and longer-lasting method of keeping the controllers in place.

Microsoft Edge Now Features This Popular Steam-Like Feature

Wed, 01/22/2025 - 10:45

Late last year, Microsoft signaled its plans to make Edge the preferred browser for PC gamers with the first look at the Microsoft Edge Game Assist. It's a version of Edge that was specifically made for gaming, with browsers and windows that appear on top of games so players can access strategy guides and tips as needed. Now, Microsoft Edge Game Assist is out of the initial testing phase and available for all to use.

Game Assist appears to have been modeled on Steam's overlay browser. It can also detect when a handful of supported games are being played and offer relevant info on a side panel. The games that are currently supported include Marvel Rivals, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and Dragon Age: The Veilguard. However, those aren't the only titles that can be played. Any game can be used in this mode, but only the supported games will have automatic guides readily available. The video below demonstrates how the Game Assist is supposed to work.

Players can access this feature by going to Microsoft Edge and opening up the Settings and more to find the Game Assist widget. Once installed, the Game Assist feature will be available in the Game Bar. Because the Game Assist shares date with Edge's browser data, players' favorites, browsing history, and cookies will all remain the same.

Sonic The Hedgehog 4 Gets March 2027 Release Date

Wed, 01/22/2025 - 08:25

Following the tremendous box office success of Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Paramount has announced that a fourth film, Sonic the Hedgehog 4, is coming to theaters on March 19, 2027.

The video game-inspired series--which features a star-studded cast of Jim Carrey, Ben Schwartz, Keanu Reeves, and Idris Elba, among others--has been a consistent hit for Paramount and Sega. 2020's Sonic the Hedgehog was an immediate success, grossing $319 million globally and setting a then-record for highest-grossing video game adaption in North America, per a Variety report. The most recent film in the series, which saw fan-favorite character Shadow the Hedgehog added into the fray, is currently the high-grossing film in the series, sitting at $422 million earned. Earlier this year, it was announced that the franchise as a whole has grossed over $1 billion.

Considering the series' success--and Sonic the Hedgehog 3's mid-credits scene, which teases the upcoming addition of a beloved Sonic the Hedgehog character--a fourth installment seemed only a matter of time. The plot of the upcoming film is currently being kept under wraps. However, we'd be shocked if voice actors Ben Schwartz (Sonic), Colleen O'Shaughnessey (Tails), and Idris Elba (Knuckles) don't make their returns. Similarly, Jim Carrey has also been a constant in the series, serving as primary antagonist Dr. Robotnik across all three films. Earlier this year, Carrey stated that he would be open to returning if the script sounds fun.

Why Switch 2 Is "Significantly More Powerful," According To A Game Dev

Wed, 01/22/2025 - 06:46

The first look at Nintendo Switch 2 didn't have much in the way of game footage except for a brief glimpse at a new Mario Kart. Ordinary players may be able to appreciate the preview of what Switch 2 can do, but one game developer has broken down how the footage exposes the sheer power of Nintendo's next system.

Sungrand Studios' Jerrel Dulay--whose previous credits include the Silver Falls game series--shared his extended look at Switch 2's capabilities. Dulay has experience working on titles for the original Switch, so the difference between the console generations was readily apparent to him. The two "most important" things he pointed out were the true volumetric lighting--an advanced lighting technique that creates a sense of density in the atmosphere--and the extremely detailed and unique textures of the backgrounds.

Because the first iteration of Switch would struggle to run either of those features at a high frame rate, Dulay noted their inclusion suggests that "this system is significantly more powerful." He also estimated that the RAM for Switch 2 will be between 12-16GB. Additionally, Dulay noted the real-time creation of shadows, cloth simulation on the flags in the background, reflective textures, and the higher polygon counts on the character models for Mario and his friends. Bringing all of those aspects together at 60fps demonstrates just how far Switch 2 has come from the original model.

Like A Dragon: Pirate Yakuza In Hawaii - Zelda: Wind Waker For Organized Crime

Wed, 01/22/2025 - 06:05

Back in September, I had the chance to play a small demo of Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii. I learned the story of how Majima ended up snagging his newest job as a pirate and finally making his big comeback as a protagonist, almost a decade after Japan's release of Yakuza 0. My gameplay was primarily focused around combat and exploring the Madlantis area of the game. It was a short-lived experience, but it was so much fun to play as the goofy Mad Dog again, and I couldn't wait for a chance to play more.

We are now less than a month away from Pirate Yakuza's release and I finally got that chance to play a full hands-on experience of the more silly and exciting new content this game has to offer. Based on just a few hours of gameplay, I couldn't believe how much is packed into this game, and they only allowed us to explore a small part of it. The experience was overwhelming in the most positive way, and the new features in Pirate Yakuza continue to prove that Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio are masters of offbeat ideas and character-focused side content.

To quickly recap what we know of the story so far, Pirate Yakuza takes place six months after the events in Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth. Majima wakes up on an island and seems to have lost his memory. He ends up becoming a pirate and finding a crew to solve a waste-pollution problem on Nele Island and uncover the secrets of Madlantis--a hideout for criminal organizations. Recovering his memories is a core part to the game and story, all while trying to navigate between his current pirate family and past yakuza lifestyle.

While the majority of surveyed developers are working at companies that use generative AI, 30% of respondents said they believe generative AI is having a negative impact on the video game business (up 12% from 2023). The surveyed developers cited things like IP theft, energy consumption, and AI program biases as contributing to their feelings toward generative AI.

The survey also founded that Business and Finance roles (51%) were the most likely to use AI tools, with Production and Team Leadership (41%), and Community, Marketing, and PR (49%) following. Marvel Rivals Spring Festival Introduces New Costumes And Superhero Soccer

Wed, 01/22/2025 - 04:30

Although springtime doesn't technically begin until March 20, NetEase is getting a jump on the warmer weather by launching a Spring Festival in Marvel Rivals later this week. In the announcement video below, fans can get their first glimpse at three new costumes coming to the game as well as a soccer-like game that will temporarily be available.

So far, the three new costumes under the Clashing Lions series are the Lion's Mane for Star-Lord, the Lion's Gaze for Iron Fist, and Lion's Heartbeat for Black Widow. Star-Lord's new outfit, nameplate, and spray will be available as free rewards for players who complete tasks during this event.

The superhero soccer game glimpsed in the trailer is called Clash of Dancing Lions, and it drops players into a 3v3 contest on a map as they use every trick in their arsenal to get the ball into the opposite scoring zone. It's not exactly like "the beautiful game" celebrated in the World Cup, but the basic principles are the same. Each game will be played until one of the teams reaches a predetermined score.
