Hollow Knight Silksong Reviews Probably Aren't Going To Be Ready For Launch
At long last, Hollow Knight: Silksong finally has some new footage and a release date--just two weeks away--but any official ratings from critics might take a bit longer.
Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier posted on his Bluesky account that developer Team Cherry has opted not to send out preview codes to media outlets before launch. That's at least in part due to wanting to ensure reviewers aren't playing before those who backed the original game on Kickstarter.
"In case you're wondering: Team Cherry told me they don't plan on sending out early codes for Silksong (they felt like it'd be unfair for critics to be playing before Kickstarter backers and other players), so don't expect to see reviews until after the game comes out," Schreier wrote.

Delta Force is a free-to-play tactical FPS, and it's now available across PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and mobile platforms. The game includes large-scale battles across various multiplayer game modes, and features a variety of different operators you can use, each with unique abilities.
The current roster of 11 operators each fall under one of four class-based roles: Assault, Engineer, Recon, or Support. They all offer unique abilities, and it helps to know how to best use them and how they can work together as a team.
You'll only have four options by default, with one operator from each class, but the others can all be unlocked for free via the battle pass or in-game challenges.

Stardew Valley was recently in the news for its upcoming collaboration with Infinity Nikki. Some might assume Stardew Valley creator Eric Barone will enjoy a nice windfall from this, but the developer has clarified that he doesn't get paid for these kinds of crossovers and collaborations--and that's on purpose.
Posting on social media (via PC Gamer), Barone said, "To be clear, I never receive any money from these collabs. I've only done them because I was a fan of the other games, or because I genuinely thought the players would like it." His fans responded to say he should profit even more off his creation, but Barone replied, "It's okay, I've made enough from sales of the game."
All of Stardew Valley's past collaborations have been one-sided, with Stardew Valley content showing up in other games, like Balatro. The one exception was the Stardew Valley crossover with Terraria, for which both games received collaborative content with each other. Of this partnership, Barone said, "It was great. I love Terraria."

In February 2004, Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor was a hit out of the gate when it sold one million copies during its first week in early access. Now, this top-down single-player shooter is ready for its full launch next month. And as announced at Gamescom, Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor is also heading to Xbox Series X|S and Game Pass.
Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor will hit PC and Xbox Series X|S on September 17. GameSpot's Chris Pereira greatly enjoyed Survivor in early access, and compared it to Vampire Survivor. The game places players in control of a single dwarf miner, who can assume one of four classes: Driller, Engineer, Scout, and Gunner. Each class gives the dwarf different abilities and options as he explores Hoxxes IV, a procedurally generated planet filled with hostile aliens and riches beyond imagining.
Ghost Ship Games set the date for Survivor's release earlier this year, while noting that the decision to launch forced the publisher to drop Endless Mode from the game. The devs at Funday Games noted that keeping Endless Mode posed several technical challenges that would have bogged down the game's release. However, there is still a plan to add Endless Mode to Survivor at a later date.

NIS America has revealed that Ys X: Proud Nordics will arrive on Switch 2 and PC early next year in the US. The company calls this the definitive edition of the RPG, as it boasts a new storyline, mechanics, and dungeon.
Ys X: Proud Nordics launched on Switch 2 last month in Japan. Originally, the RPG came out in 2023 in Japan before NIS America brought Ys X: Nordics to the West in 2024 for PC, PS4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch. So far, there haven't been any details about a possible upgrade path for Ys X: Proud Nordics on Switch 2 or PC. There have been paid Switch 2 upgrades for Nintendo's new system as well as free patches for the hybrid system since it came out in June.
Per usual, Ys X follows Adol Christin (the protagonist of every Ys game), though this time he's joined by a sailor named Karja. The game sees the duo dealing with the "looming threat of an undying horde known as the Griegr," per a press release. "Aboard their ship, the Sandras, Adol and Karja gather a trusty crew of friends and allies as they go head-to-head with the Griegr in one unforgettable journey!"

High on Life 2 continues the absurd tendencies of the original and will feature a playable version of Sega's Bible Adventures game.
Creative director Mikey Spano from developer Squanch Games revealed at Gamescom that Richard Kind's character, Senator Muppy Doo, can factory reset your game, prompting a Bible Adventures takeover. The three games included with Bible Adventures--Noah's Ark, Baby Moses, and David and Goliath--are playable during this takeover. You can see how this unfolds in the video below.
Spano said someone at Squanch Games has "great connections" in the video game industry and helped get the rights sorted out to make this happen. When the idea came up to have this kind of in-game takeover with another game, Spano said it was his "dream" for Bible Adventures to be that game, but he didn't imagine it would work out. It did, and Spano said he's floored.

The Battlefield 6 open beta has ended, and now Battlefield Studios has published a blog post that runs through some of the key changes for launch--and that includes a big nerf for the shotgun.
The M87A1 shotgun was too powerful in the beta, many said, and now Battlefield Studios will make a change to it so it "requires more pellets to secure a kill." The developer was made aware of the shotgun issues almost immediately after the beta went live, and the studio said on August 10 that the shotgun problems were already "resolved" in a different build of the game.
In terms of other weapon changes, Battlefield Studios said the team is making "targeted adjustments to deliver a more consistent and rewarding gunplay experience." This will include a "general pass on recoil and tap-fire characteristics" for every weapon in the game. Other changes are being made to encourage "more controlled tap-firing and burst-firing, rewarding precision and weapon mastery," the studio said.

In a brief developer preview, Bethesda showed off the upcoming C.A.M.P. Revamp update for Fallout 76. This update is geared towards making improvements to the game's CAMP-building mechanics as well as refining the workshop menu system.
As seen in the video below, Bethesda's creative director Jon Rush discussed the CAMP Revamp update, showing off the new streamlined menus to help make finding specific items faster. There are also new tools and new building rules.
"We're getting rid of our rules regarding placement, allowing you to toggle snapping, intersecting, and free-place anywhere," Rush said. "We see and hear you, sky campers."

It's become a tradition for Overwatch 2 to tease upcoming collaborations when previewing new seasons. The latest trailer for Overwatch 2 Season 18 is no exception. After laying out some of the new features heading to the game, the video concluded with a silhouette of Joker from Persona 5.
Assuming the Overwatch 2 x Persona crossover follows the example set by the game's previous collaborations, a handful of the former's characters will get new costumes based on the latter's iconic heroes. For now, Blizzard hasn't shared any further details about the new collaboration or when it will launch in-game. Some of the previous collaborations have given Overwatch 2 heroes costumes from G.I. Joe, Transformers, Street Fighter, and Avatar: The Last Airbender.
In the meantime, Blizzard is spreading the word about Season 18's Stadium Quick Play, which will feature shorter match times, a quicker item economy, and cross-play support. Winston, Brigitte, and Pharah will be available at the launch of Stadium Quick Play, with Tracer slated to arrive mid-season.

Forza Horizon 6 hasn't even been officially announced by Microsoft, and yet, a possible leak might have revealed the racing game's setting: Japan. An Australian car import company reportedly posted and then deleted an image on Instagram that showed a developer scanning Japanese kei cars.
The Cult and Classic post was spotted on the subreddit Gaming Leaks and Rumours, with Forza Horizon fans extrapolating that the Japanese kei cars (which aren't found in America) strongly hint at Japan for the game's setting. However, there are a couple of reasons this theory could be misguided. For instance, Forza Horizon developer Playground Games is based in the United Kingdom, so cars not being available in the US has no bearing on scanning for the team. Additionally, why wouldn't the dev member just fly out to Japan instead of Australia to scan a kei car, which roughly translates to light vehicle?
The most recent entry in the series, Forza Horizon 5, was set in Mexico and is actually the best-selling game on PS5 this year, per gaming analyst Alinea. The former Xbox exclusive arrived on Sony's system in April. In fact, it's just one of the Xbox-owned games selling well on PS5, alongside Doom: The Dark Ages and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.

Digital Eclipse has officially confirmed two more games for Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection, as the infamous PlayStation-era spin-offs Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero and Mortal Kombat Special Forces are being added to the compilation. These titles have been unavailable for decades on PC and newer consoles, and Digital Eclipse added that they're being enhanced alongside the other Mortal Kombat games in the roster.
The studio says that there will be a rewind feature to make gameplay more forgiving, on-screen move lists, and a Trainer Mode to help players learn various combos and fatalities. Players can also expect reduced load times in each game.
The other big reveal from the studio was that the WaveNet edition of Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 will also be included in the collection. This was originally developed to support Midway's ambitious WaveNet online matchmaking service for arcade machines, and it was the only Mortal Kombat arcade game to feature Noob Saibot as a playable character.
Continue Reading at GameSpotBattlefield Devs Address Open Beta Feedback, Double Down On Changes To Rush
Battlefield 6's whopping open beta has now come and gone, and Battlefield Studios is addressing the feedback it has received, chiefly as it pertains to the game's bigger maps and criticism of player counts across its modes.
One of the main concerns for players coming out of the beta was the status of Battlefield 6's larger maps. The biggest one in the beta, Liberation Peak, was popular enough with players who craved the classic large-scale warfare of the series--even if it had far too many snipers--but many were left wanting more. This feeling was only exacerbated by the beta's apparent focus on smaller maps and modes, like Breakthrough and Rush on infantry-focused arenas like Siege of Cairo, Iberian Offensive, and eventually, Empire State.
In response to players starved for bigger maps, which have already been revealed by dataminers, Battlefield Studios has assured the community that "larger-scale maps are already part of our launch package," and they're on the way. The post elaborates that two of the game's significantly larger maps, one set in Mirak Valley and the other a remake of Battlefield 3's Operation Firestorm, will be included in the next phase of Battlefield Labs testing, which is set to continue leading up to Battlefield 6's launch on October 10.

Last year, Keepsake Games had to re-title its upcoming co-op game Jump Space because its previous name, Jump Ship, had trademark issues. Now, Jump Space is heading to early access next month, and the trailer for the game offers a glimpse of the interstellar adventures that lie ahead.
As noted in the trailer, early access for Jump Space will begin on September 19. The gameplay may remind some fans of Left 4 Dead and Sea of Thieves. Jump Space can bring together up to four players to act as crew members on a ship as they control and repair their vessel as needed. Outside of the ship, players can embark on space walks and explore different planets. Players can also go through the game as a solo experience, but it's a better idea to have backup from your friends as you face the unknown.
Jump Space is solely a PvE experience, so players won't have to worry about fighting each other in PvP battles. There will be times when players have no other options than to shoot their way out of trouble, as they can encounter enemies on-foot and while piloting the ship into combat. Keepsake Games has also noted that Jump Space will feature several "handcrafted missions with random elements," which should make each run a unique experience.

In the aftermath of Stardew Valley's success and popularity, there have been many attempts by other developers to carve their own piece of the pixel farm life simulator pie. Whereas those games so often put you in the role of a poor farmer or some other position of struggle, Discounty does the opposite, having you effectively play as the bad guys in Stardew Valley: the outsider that has everything and is trying to weasel into the community. You're not literally playing a mirror of that game's story, but it's awfully close--instead of being the new farmer in a small, struggling town, you're instead the new owner of the big-brand supermarket that's attempting to monopolize the economy and push out existing vendors to increase your profit margins. It altogether makes for a game that is fun to play (in that hypnotic sort of way that's recognizable in so many games that romanticize retail work), but it is ultimately narratively quite uncomfortable at times and too muddled in its storytelling to utilize that discomfort to deliver a compelling message.
Granted, you're merely the pawn in the palm of the hand of a much greedier capitalist: your aunt. Roped into moving to her small harbor town of Blomkest to help out with her struggling market, you arrive to find she's sold out to the Discounty chain and rebranded. Your aunt is immediately portrayed as a suspicious person, keeping secrets locked away in sheds, making backroom deals with banks, and firing employees without a second thought. It's all in the name of expanding her supermarket business empire, and you're her most loyal pawn, charming locals into going along with your expansions and acquiring their wares so that citizens have to go to Discounty to buy food and home supplies.
And Jordan wept, for there were no more worlds to conquer. It feels scummy, especially since your character has zero backbone, pushing the buck on responsibility and ignoring the consequences of their actions for a big chunk of the game's story, which primarily deals with a hurting community that needs healing.

When the Nintendo Switch 2 was properly revealed, a perhaps-unsurprising reveal was the fact that Elden Ring would be coming to the platform. The console is more powerful than the original Switch after all, though there was still the question of how it might run given just how big Elden Ring is. Well, as it currently stands, performance might be quite bad, as a demo for the port of the game at Gamescom is reportedly running at a low frame rate. Not only that, but Bandai Namco staff running the demo apparently weren't letting people record footage of the game either.
Nintendo Life shared a video featuring video producer Felix Sanchez in which he detailed his experience with Elden Ring on Switch 2. "It's really bad, and I understand why they don’t want you to see this, because wowie zowie, it is terrible," Sanchez explained, also claiming that no gameplay could be recorded through direct capture or even over the shoulder.
"Of course, you're never going to see the light of this--maybe it will just release in that state, but I can’t imagine they will do that. It was like playing Ocarina of Time. It was like 20 frames per second. Sometimes I was like, 'This has dropped [to] 15 frames per second.'"

When you first boot up Okomotive's latest game, Herdling, it may seem like the mystical vistas you encounter are something out of fantasy. But that’s not the case. The development team drew inspiration from hikes they took while creating the game.
“We went on a few hikes in the Swiss mountains, before and while developing Herdling," Herdling creative director Don Schmocker tells GameSpot via email. "From Medels to the Suretta Lakes, three picturesque mountain lakes located close to the Swiss and Italian border, or up one of the better-known Swiss mountains, Mount Rigi. They were always inspiring and got us away from our computers for a bit."
Hikes along the Suretta Lakes and up Mount Rigi inspired Herdling, a magical adventure where players guide strange, mythical creatures across magical mountain landscapes. The team’s goal was to capture the feeling of wandering and exploring while herding--and to make it feel natural rather than mechanical.
