Yakuza Kiwami 3 Announced--And It's Got A Big Expansion Attached
On the RGG Summit livestream tonight, Sega announced Yakuza Kiwami 3, a ground-up remake of 2009's Yakuza 3. As with the previous "Kiwami" remakes, Yakuza Kiwami and Yakuza Kiwami 2, Kiwami 3 gives the game's visuals a massive upgrade, fleshes out story details with new cutscenes and action sequences, and also is set to offer a wealth of new side content.
In the later RGG Direct, game director Ryosuke Horii elaborated on some of the game's additions. Besides additional story scenes, several of the cutscenes and voicelines from Yakuza 3 have been completely redone for Kiwami 3. The environments of Okinawa--a distinct feature of Yakuza 3--have also been completely remade. Combat sees similar revamps, with Kiryu being able to switch between his classic "Dragon of Dojima Kiwami" fighting skills and the all-new, Okinawan-martial-arts-inspired, weapon-heavy "Ryukyu Style." And to top it all off, the "Dragon Boost" powered-up mode gives Kiryu's hard-hitting, face-smashing, ruffian-hurling techniques even more of a ferocious edge.
All-new minigames were also showcased. A new game mode called "Life at Morning Glory" shows the softer side of Kiryu as he manages the Morning Glory orphanage and interacts with the children under his care. Another new mini-game, "Legendary Baddie: Bad Boy Dragon," sees Kiryu teaming up with a posse of female Okinawan biker gang members and helping them in their turf wars against rival groups.

Borderlands 4 debuted earlier this month on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. However, Switch 2 owners were supposed to get the game on October 3. The statement goes on to say that Gearbox is "committed to ensuring we deliver the best possible experience to our fans, and the game needs additional development and polish time to do that. We will update you all on the new release timing once we've fully adjusted our plans."

Pokemon Fans Can Celebrate Pokeween At Local Stores Throughout October
The Halloween season begins next month, but for Pokemon fans, that means Pokeween is back as well. To celebrate the season, specially designated Play! Pokemon stores are inviting fans to come down and earn a few free prizes from participating in events.
As explained on Pokemon's official site, Pokeween events are being held between October 1-31 at select stores. Fans who come down for the event will be rewarded with a Trick or Trade BOOster pack, a Pokemon Go code--which will randomly alternate between rare candy, incense, or a lucky egg--and a Spiritomb promo card with the Play! Fans are encouraged to come in costume as their favorite Pokemon, or to simply come as they are to show off their cards and share their experiences with the game. The Play! Baby Steps, the literal walking simulator from the minds behind games like QWOP and Getting Over It, is out now, and publisher Devolver Digital is celebrating with a relaxing "naturescape" stream where the game's protagonist Nate violently falls into frame every 15 minutes.
It's all as weird, jarring, and hilarious as it sounds. In Baby Steps, "unemployed failson" Nate must traverse a "mountain-sized mountain" using the power of putting one foot in front of the other using the game's unique (and by the look of it, frustrating) physics-based control scheme. The stream highlights various landscapes from the game that Nate must overcome and presents them as serene, idyllic vistas.
Every few minutes, however, the stream takes a sharp turn as Nate comes tumbling down some rocks or faceplants into the dirt, mimicking the experience more than a few Baby Steps players are having themselves. It's never not funny, in large part because it's easy to forget it's going to happen while the stream runs in the background on a second monitor, only for the peaceful sounds of nature to be suddenly interrupted by a bumbling oaf crashing through the landscape.

Activision has confirmed that you can indeed pet the dog in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, but it's not exactly what you think. Black Ops 7 is a futuristic game set in 2035, and it features the Deployable Armored Weaponized Groundcraft, or D.A.W.G. In a newly released video, the developers from Treyarch said a small team put in the work to add the ability to pet the killer robot machine.
"This is a fun one. It started as a small, little Easter egg and, inevitably, somebody asked the question, 'Can I pet that dog?' And a very small group of people made it happen," design director Matt Scronce said.
You can see the character petting the D.A.W.G. in the video below, but Scronce said Treyarch is not going to reveal exactly how players achieve petting the D.A.W.G. You'll have to figure that out for yourself, he said.
Continue Reading at GameSpotThe Steam Deck Has Been Discounted By 20% For The Next Week
The Steam Deck is still regarded as the benchmark that all handheld gaming PCs aspire to be like, and if you've been looking to get one, now might be the best time to do so as it has been discounted by 20%. At a time when gaming hardware has gotten more expensive over time, getting a Steam Deck for just $319 is a pretty good deal overall. This pre-Steam Fall Sale deal saves you $80 off the regular price of the 256GB LCD screen model, making it cheaper than the original Switch console in comparison.
Steam Deck (256GB LCD) $319 (was $400)This discount will only be available from now through October 6, and it doesn't include other models like the OLED screen version. While this handheld is almost four years old, it's still a versatile handheld that is compatible with an impressive number of games thanks to SteamOS and it offers rock-solid performance. Ideally, this can function well as a go-to machine for indie games, but it can handle more visually demanding titles reasonably well.
On top of that, filling up your gaming library is quite affordable through Steam, and with the Steam Fall Sale around the corner, there'll be some great discounts to take advantage of. If you do want some more technical bang for your buck, the 512GB OLED Steam Deck is priced at $550 and the 1TB version is $650, making these worthwhile competitors to the upcoming Xbox Ally ROG and the expensive Lenovo Legion Go 2. While you are losing out being able to access multiple gaming storefronts--the Steam Deck rivals use a Windows operating system--SteamOS is still a great platform if you don't mind being locked into a Steam ecosystem.

The iVanky docking station is Steam Deck compatible, and it can be used to connect the machine up with a TV screen. You'll also charge your Steam Deck through it, and if you decide to expand your handheld gaming PC collection, this can also be used with Asus ROG Ally, Steam Deck OLED, Lenovo Legion Go, and MSI Claw handhelds. Normally $40, it's on sale for $27 as part of a limited-time deal.
There's also the Jsaux charging dock for $30 (was $40), and like the iVanky, you're getting fast-charging, you can turn your Steam Deck into a gaming PC on your TV, and it's compatible with other hardware as well. These are also much cheaper--and actually better--than the official Steam Deck dock, and these come with a wide variety of I/O ports, including HDMI, USB-C, Ethernet, and USB-A 3.0 slots, and they also support 4K resolutions with high refresh rates.

World of Warcraft's upcoming Legion Remix event will include plenty of new and returning transmog options for players to collect, but one highly coveted set of Artifact appearances from the original Legion expansion won't be among them.
Legion, originally released in 2016, is one of WoW's most popular expansions. That popularity is, in part, due to its Artifact-weapon system. Every player was granted an iconic weapon from Warcraft lore to upgrade over the course of the expansion. Because WoW's real endgame is transmog, each Artifact weapon also sported a variety of different skins and color variations for players to pursue and collect.
WoW Legion Remix's content schedule. Now, as part of Legion Remix, players are getting a second chance at the expansion. In a forum post from WoW community manager Kaivax, Blizzard clarified that nearly all of Legion's original Artifact-weapon appearances (minus ones available only through PvP, since Legion Remix is a PvE-only event) will be available during the event. Many of these Artifact appearances are technically still earnable in the modern version of the game, though Legion Remix's increased leveling speeds and power levels will make leveling new characters for the event and blasting through some of the prerequisites faster.

Additionally, the 1.0 release of Slime Rancher 2 will add even more areas to explore, new slimes to discover, and gadgets to master.

In response to the Department of Homeland Security's video using Ash Ketchum to promote ICE, The Pokemon Company's ex-legal chief said he "wouldn't touch" it, suggesting some possible reasons why the company might not pursue legal action.
This week, Homeland Security posted a video to X of an arrest compilation. In between footage of ICE agents handcuffing people at their homes and in their cars are clips from the OG Pokemon TV series, with the famed "Gotta catch 'em all" theme playing in the background. When Ash Ketchum looks up at the sky, the text "The Department of Homeland Security" populates the screen in Pokemon's iconic yellow-and-blue font. As a Poke Ball closes, the camera zooms in on wrists in cuffs. And at the very end of the video, those arrested appear as Pokemon cards with their "crime" described under their picture.
Fans were understandably upset about this, with many in the comments begging for The Pokemon Company to sue the DHS. However, the company's former legal chief, Don McGowan, explained to IGN why The Pokemon Company likely won't do anything about the video.

Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Novels
Catch up on the story ahead of Netflix's new animated series
See at AmazonIt’s been a while since we saw a new entry in the Splinter Cell series, but fans can look forward to the return of Sam Fisher when he sneaks onto Netflix with a fresh animated series on October 14. Liev Schreiber (Ray Donovan, Logan) will voice the Third Echelon operative for its eight-episode run, and if you’re excited about the upcoming series, but have already played through the stealth-action video game series, consider checking out the classic Tom Clancy Splinter Cell novels that both the video games and the new Netflix animated series are based on. Better yet, many of the books are discounted at Amazon, making now the ideal time to dive into the espionage thriller series.
See all Splinter Cell novels at AmazonLike many other books, video games, or TV series bearing the late author's name, Tom Clancy never actually wrote any of the Splinter Cell books. Instead, they’re written by David Michaels, Peter Telep, and other popular authors who follow a similar format to Clancy's earlier works.
If you’re just getting started, it makes sense to start with the first book, aptly titled Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell, which is on sale for just $8.94 (was $10). The book introduces Third Echelon, Fisher, and the many people on his team who help him survive out in the field. Fans of the Splinter Cell video games will recognize the tense military espionage action and Sam Fisher’s morbid sense of humor. From there, the Splinter Cell book series includes eight more novels, for a total of nine (so far). The direct follow-up Splinter Cell: Operation Barracuda, while book three, Splinter Cell: Checkmate, and book four, Splinter Cell: Fallout, introduce new storylines.

Baldur's Gate 3 is apparently even better to play on the go now, as Larian Studios has released a new native version of the RPG for Steam Deck as part of a hotfix update. The developer states that the game has "a more stable frame rate, lower loading times, and smoother gameplay" on the PC handheld.
Larian detailed what's included with hotfix 34 on Steam in a set of patch notes, with the spotlight on the Steam Deck-native build. But the developer pointed out this new portable version of Baldur's Gate 3 has led to "overall improvements to the way game models are streamed on all platforms, which should reduce framerate spikes in busy areas, such as the Lower City in Act 3." Previously, the RPG utilized the "Proton compatibility layer, which requires extra CPU processing power," to run on Valve's handheld.
Hotfix #34 is now live! You'll no longer turn into a floating torso when talking with Ketheric’s dog, the Apostle of Myrkul will stop regaining hit points when you load a save mid-combat, and we've attempted to save you from some annoying crashes. Read all about it: larian.club/Hotfix34

Mods can carry over to the native Steam Deck build of Baldur's Gate 3. Larian stated that by logging "in to your Larian Account and hav[ing] it connected to mod.io" will lead to your mods downloading for the game. Meanwhile, hotfix 34 also addresses other issues for Baldur's Gate 3, like crashing instances on Xbox Series X|S.

Ubisoft's classic platforming series Rayman celebrated its 30th anniversary earlier this month. The developer confirmed the next mainline entry is in the works, but it sounds like it's a long ways off. While that's probably not what fans wanted to hear, at least you can buy a brand-new version of Rayman for Game Boy Color. That sentence sounds odd, but it's true: Ubisoft partnered with ModRetro to rerelease the GBC version of the original Rayman. An actual GBC cartridge, in fact, and it looks lovely.
Rayman for ModRetro Chromatic / Game Boy ColorRayman is the latest addition to the ModRetro Chromatic Classics Collection. If the words ModRetro Chromatic don't mean anything to you: ModRetro is a retro gaming hardware manufacturer and software publisher; the Chromatic, an exceedingly impressive recreation of the Game Boy Color, was the brand's debut product last year. Check out our in-depth Chromatic review published at launch. Just a heads up, though: The Chromatic we reviewed now retails for $299, and the $199 model has slightly different components. That said, you can still get the GameStop-exclusive gray launch edition bundled with Tetris for $199.
It's important to note that even though ModRetro carts have Chromatic branding, all of them work on original hardware and other FPGA handhelds like the Analogue Pocket. ModRetro sent me a Rayman demo cart, and I tested it on Chromatic, Pocket, and an original Game Boy Color. It played perfectly on all three.

Earlier in September, Nintendo revealed that Pokemon is getting a cozy game, Pokemon Pokopia. Apparently the developers of Palworld had similar ideas, because Pocketpair has now unveiled a spin-off cozy game of its own called Palworld: Palfarm.
Much like Pokemon Pokopia, Palfarm lets players gather pals to help them live a quiet life as a farmer while handling the harvest, the cooking, and even the business of selling the food. The chosen pals also lend their special abilities to the player to make things easier on the farm.
However, it does appear that this game has a dark side. Pocketpair has confirmed that some pals will attack the communities you create in Palfarm. The trailer also has an unnerving sequence of a gunshop owner playing with a weapon that's much darker than the Pokemon games are willing to go.
Continue Reading at GameSpotXbox Users Reportedly Play More Games Than PS5 Or Steam Players, And There's One Big Reason Why
PS5 and PC may have larger player bases than Xbox these days, but Xbox apparently still has the other platforms beat on one metric. According to a new report, Xbox users play more games than their PS5 and Steam counterparts--and it's due to Game Pass.
Based on data collected by Ampere Analytics, Xbox users, on average, played almost six games each in August 2025. This is significantly more than Steam players (4.5 games on average) and PS5 players (3.7 games), and Ampere suggests that this finding is due to the Game Pass effect. In essence, enough Xbox players are Game Pass subscribers at this point that the ability to easily try out dozens of new games actually shows up in the data.
However, Ampere suggests that Xbox players are spending less overall time playing games compared to PS5 and Steam players. While this dynamic has often been true in the past, Ampere states that August 2025 was particularly unbalanced. Xbox users played only 7.7 hours of games on average, much lower than PS5 players (12.7 hours) and Steam players (11.9 hours).
