Red Dead Redemption Turns 15: There Will Never Be Another Spaghetti Western Like It

Sun, 05/18/2025 - 23:00

Red Dead Redemption is celebrating its 15-year anniversary today, May 18, 2025. Below, we look back at the western in the context of its cinematic inspirations.

Stories about the American West, just like stories about knights or ninjas or other iconic figures, are not a monolith. There are stories fantastical and grounded, silly and serious, traditional and rebellious. Red Dead Redemption is a spaghetti Western in the same lineage as so many of Sergio Leone's movies, like A Fistful of Dollars and The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. Even among other open-world games and the other games in its own series, Red Dead Redemption is a singular experience. It delivers on the fantasy of playing a legendary gunslinger in a grimy American West. And there will never be another game quite like it.

A Look Back at the Red Dead Trilogy

The Red Dead games are a trilogy, though we rarely think of the first entry, Red Dead Revolver. All three games in the series are wildly different takes on the Western; even though the most recent two have consistent characters and a chronology to them, they could hardly be more different in presentation, tone, and style.

How To Make An Infinite Water Source In Minecraft

Sat, 05/17/2025 - 13:00

There are many reasons why you might need an infinite water source in Minecraft. Maybe you just want the convenience of having water nearby if you've built a base far away from the water. Perhaps you're in a Minecraft server with challenges such as Skyblock, and need to have additional water with limited space. Whatever your need for infinite water, we've got you covered, and even have a solution for infinite water using just one water block.

Minecraft water can be found everywhere, but you might not always have it close byHow to get infinite water

The first guaranteed way to get infinite water in Minecraft is to place two source blocks of water in a 2x2 grid at diagonal corners. This way, you only need four blocks total, as the other two diagonals will convert to source blocks. To add the water, simply craft two buckets and collect it from a nearby river, ocean, or lake.

The next, slightly more complicated way, but that only requires one source block, is to dig a T-shaped hole and put one block elevated higher than ground level at the top of the T, resulting in a cross shape. Then, add a water source to the side of the elevated block so that it flows down and fills the dug-out shape.

Activision Is Pulling Call Of Duty: Warzone Mobile From iOS And Google Play Stores

Sat, 05/17/2025 - 06:45

Just a little more than a year after releasing Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile, Activision is ending its support for the game, which includes removing it from the Apple App Store and Google Play stores.

Activision made the announcement with a written statement on X (formerly Twitter). "Going forward, we will be streamlining the scope of the game," Activision wrote. May 18 is the last day the game will be available for download from Apple and Google's stores, and Activision has ended the ability of players to purchase Call of Duty points or Black Cell in the game "effective immediately." Social features are also being retired.

However, Activision said servers will still be available for players who have already downloaded the game--in essence, while you can't download Warzone Mobile after this weekend or buy anything in it, you'll still be able to play. Activision didn't say if or when servers for Warzone Mobile would be shut down.

Capcom Fighting Collection 2 Physical Edition Is Selling Out On Launch Day

See at Amazon See at Walmart See at Best Buy See at Target

Capcom Fighting Collection 2 is now available on PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and PC. The eight-game collection earned an 8/10 in our review and costs $40. Like last year's Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection, physical editions are only available for PS4 and Nintendo Switch.

Launch editions of Capcom Fighting Collection 2 for either platform are bundled with an exclusive comic book. Capcom did the same thing with Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection, and this has likely once again contributed to stock shortages on launch day. The PS4 version, in particular, is difficult to find in stock right now, but you can place an order for the PlayStation physical edition from Amazon.

Only the initial batch of Capcom Fighting Collection 2 physical copies will include an all-new Capcom vs. SNK comic made by Udon Entertainment in honor of the crossover series' return in this new collection.

Nintendo Switch 2 Will Help You Find Your Joy-Con If It Falls Into The Couch

Sat, 05/17/2025 - 04:23

While the launch of Nintendo Switch 2 inches closer by the day, the Nintendo Today app has been providing useful updates on a few of the upcoming console's new features. Today, the app revealed that hidden within the options menu is a feature that will help you find a lost Joy-Con should it get separated from the console.

As spotted by X user Stealth40K, by tapping the Controllers icon on the main menu, you can select "Search For Controllers" from the list. Once there, select which Joy-Con you've misplaced, and the device will vibrate and make a ringing sound until you've retrieved it.

Nintendo Today has provided numerous updates about the Nintendo Switch 2 since the Switch 2 Direct in early April, including more information on the customizable GL and GR buttons for the Switch 2's Pro Controller, as well as the binoculars found around the map in Mario Kart World. The app's first-ever announcement was the March 2027 release date for the upcoming live-action The Legend of Zelda movie.

Switch 2's Bravely Default Remaster Rings In The 3DS Nostalgia Era With A Great Version Of A Great RPG

Sat, 05/17/2025 - 03:50

The Switch 2 launch lineup is not exactly bursting at the seams. While Mario Kart World is the banner game, the handful of others coming on June 5 are mostly ports of existing games. Among those, Bravely Default is an oddball, as it's an HD remaster of a game that's more than a decade old rather than a modern game like Street Fighter 6 or Cyberpunk 2077 that can finally run on Nintendo hardware. But for my money, Bravely Default is also an all-time RPG classic, and as strange as it feels to be nostalgic for the 3DS era of games, Switch 2's Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster looks to be a great way to play it.

For those unfamiliar, Bravely Default was a riff on the classic Final Fantasy formula, making it FF in all but name. Four warriors of light, holy crystals, the whole enchilada. It sported a robust class system that encouraged players to find game-breaking combinations, and it was one of the first to sport the ability to speed up encounters and auto-battle--both now mainstays in classic RPG remakes--or even turn them off entirely. The title referred to one of its battle mechanics, the ability to "Default" (defend and store an extra Brave Point aka BP) or "Brave" (spend extra BP, or even go into BP debt, to take extra actions). So for level-grinding, you could Brave every time to burn through low-level enemies, and against tougher enemies and bosses you would need to take a more considered approach.

It was followed by the semi-sequel, Bravely Second: End Layer, and a full sequel, Bravely Second. Notably unlike the Final Fantasy series, the Bravely games take place in one consistent canonical world, so the sequels build on the stories and continuity that came before them.

Where To Find AI Darth Vader In Fortnite

Sat, 05/17/2025 - 03:49

Star Wars season has proven to be a pretty dramatic change of pace for Fortnite's battle royale mode, but this week's big update has introduced a massive surprise: an AI-powered Darth Vader NPC who will fight alongside your squad and actually talk to you and answer your questions in the voice of the late James Earl Jones.

It's just a little novelty that won't likely affect how you play at all, but it's unusually amusing for that sort of thing, since this Darth Vader-themed chatbot's delivery is spot-on. It's not any smarter than any other chatbot, since it can't track a conversation very well, but if you want to listen to Darth Vader say a bunch of stuff--not all of it kid-friendly--while you're playing Fortnite, he's good to have around.

The big question, of course, is how do you find and talk to him? The AI Darth Vader NPC has replaced the Darth Vader Samurai boss NPC that had been hanging out at Vader Samurai's Solitude, but that location is only one of three possible spawn points for Darth Vader each match. Just as it was when Darth Vader first invaded the island three years ago, his location is randomized at the start of each match.

8BitDo Reveals Leverless Arcade Controllers For PC, Switch, And Xbox

Sat, 05/17/2025 - 01:24
Preorder at Amazon Preorder at Amazon

8BitDo has revealed a pair of exciting new controllers for fighting game enthusiasts. Launching July 15 for Switch/PC and Xbox/PC, the 8BitDo Arcade Controller is a thin, leverless fight pad. All-button arcade "sticks" have become quite popular in the fighting game scene in recent years; some players find that the dedicated directional and jump buttons make it easier to hit precise inputs for special moves and combos. However, leverless models tend to be expensive, especially if you're looking for a reliable and customizable device. At $90-$100, 8BitDo's Arcade Controller will be the most affordable option from a major brand, and both models offer wireless connections on their respective platforms as well as PC. You can preorder the 8BitDo Arcade Controller for Switch/PC and Xbox/PC at Amazon.

8BitDo Arcade Controller (Xbox/PC) $100 | Releases July 25

As mentioned above, the new leverless 8BitDo Arcade Controllers use a button-only layout. Both models include four directional buttons (up, down, left, right), eight face buttons, and four additional remappable buttons. Each button uses hot-swappable Kailh Wizard low-profile mechanical switches, and the extra buttons also come with swappable locking flat caps in case you don't want to use them and want to avoid accidental presses. Both models also feature platform-specific inputs--like the Xbox Guide button and Switch Home button--for navigating the console's menus and interface.

These leverless models are thinner and lighter than the previously released 8BitDo Arcade Controllers with joysticks, with a smudge-resistant material on the top panel, and a slip-resistant silicone mat on the bottom so it stays in place while playing. They also have foldable magnetic feet so you can adjust the angle.

The Xbox version of the leverless 8BitDo Arcade Controller connects wirelessly to Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, or PC with the included 2.4GHz dongle. The included USB-C cable can be used to establish a wired connection as well as charge the Arcade Controller.

While the hot-swappable PCBs are convenient for modding the device's buttons and switches to your preferences, you can also personalize the button mapping and other options on PC or Xbox using 8BitDo's Ultimate Software X. One of those customizations is the RGB lighting rings around the buttons, which are exclusive to the Xbox model.

Preorder at Amazon 8BitDo Arcade Controller (Switch/PC) $90 | Releases July 25

The Switch version of the leverless 8BitDo Arcade Controller the same button layout and overall design as the Xbox edition, but it's $10 cheaper and adds Bluetooth support. Since it uses Bluetooth to sync wirelessly with your Nintendo Switch, you should have no problem pairing it to the upcoming Switch 2 console.

The Switch edition still comes with a 2.4GHz dongle for wireless play on PC, just like the Xbox model. The detachable charging cable can be used for wired mode on Switch or PC. So if you're buying the controller for PC, you can save $10 by opting for the Switch version. You will miss out on the backlit buttons, but the Switch edition does have a cool retro-themed design.

The gray, black, and red color scheme pays homage to the Nintendo Entertainment System. The trio of bright menu buttons running along the top nod back to the SNES controller's face buttons.

Button mapping and other competition-focused control customizations can be applied to the Switch edition using 8BitDo's Ultimate Software V2.

For those who prefer the traditional feel of a joystick, the original 8BitDo Arcade Controller is also available now. Like the levelerless edition, the 8BitDo Arcade Controller with a joystick is available in Switch and Xbox versions, and both work with PC. The Switch/PC model is $90, while the Xbox/PC model is $120 and available in either black or white color options.

8BitDo makes plenty of other great controllers, including conventional, highly customizable controllers like the recently released 8BitDo Ultimate 2 for PC/Android and 8BitDo Ultimate 2 Bluetooth for Nintendo Switch/PC. The Ultimate 2 improves on its predecessor in a variety of ways. It has TMR electromagnetic sticks, four remappable buttons, customizable lighting rings, and trigger locks.

Death Stranding Star Norman Reedus Says He's Willing To Appear In The Film Adaptation If Asked To

Sat, 05/17/2025 - 00:23

A live-action Death Stranding movie is currently in an early stage of development, and while no actors have been attached to it yet, the game's original star Norman Reedus sounds interested in appearing in it if he's offered the chance to do so.

Speaking to IGN during a press junket for the John Wick spin-off film Ballerina, Reedus--who provided the voice and likeness of the game's protagonist Sam Porter Bridges-- was quizzed on if he'd be willing to appear in the Death Stranding movie. "If it was an option, yeah, for sure," Reedus said. "I don't know what's happening with it, right? It's so pre-[production] right now, but yeah, yeah of course."

Take-Two Boss Feels "Really Good" About Switch 2 Amid Reports Of RDR 2 Port

Sat, 05/17/2025 - 00:04

Take-Two has confirmed that it plans to launch numerous "new iterations of prior releases" in the time ahead, and this news comes amid reports of a GTA 4 port for modern consoles and Red Dead Redemption II for Switch 2. For Switch 2 specifically, Take-Two boss Strauss Zelnick said he is a "big believer" in the console, which is only fueling the speculation online about the possibility of more Take-Two titles coming to the system.

A slide from Take-Two's earnings briefing shows off some of the games that Take-Two has coming during its Fiscal Years 2026, 2027, and 2028. As you can see, Take-Two has 38 titles listed for released by the end of FY 2028 (April 1, 2028), and only 12 have been announced so far.

Given that, Take-Two surely has numerous announcements still to come, though the company also cautioned that, "It is likely that some of these titles will not be developed through to completion" or that release dates could change. Take-Two said it might add more games to the slate, too.

Take-Two Boss Reacts To Grand Theft Auto 6 Delay

Fri, 05/16/2025 - 23:08

Prior to this month, Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick assured investors that Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto 6 was on track for a 2025 debut, while also acknowledging the possibility of a delay. However, the game was pushed back to a May 2026 release earlier this month. Now, Zelnick has shared his reaction to GTA 6's delay after offering an explanation.

While speaking with IGN, Zelnick noted that GTA 6 needed the extra time for the developers to polish the title and turn it into become the game that fans want it to be.

"As we get closer to completion of a title that's seeking perfection, the needs or lack thereof, for continued polish become clear," said Zelnick "In this case there was an opportunity with a small amount of incremental time, we thought, to make sure Rockstar Games achieves its creative vision with no limitations. And I supported of course that approach."

Stellar Blade On PC Has Been Blocked In Over 130 Countries, Catching Its Developer By Surprise

Fri, 05/16/2025 - 22:56

Stellar Blade is coming to PC on June 11, but strangely, the Steam version of the game won't be available for over 130 countries. This news has come as a surprise to developer Shift Up, as the studio has been bombarded with messages on its social media platforms from players sharing screenshots of the game being blocked from sale in their respective countries.

Major markets like Europe and the US are unaffected, but the game will be unavailable to players in other countries like Bangladesh, Fiji, and Botswana.

So what's the cause here? That's currently unclear, but this might be a case that's similar to Helldivers 2. Shortly after the game was released on PC, it became mandatory for players on that platform to create and link a PlayStation Network account to keep playing the game. There was a huge backlash to this move--that was later scrapped--and Helldivers 2 was subsequently unavailable for purchase because of it in many countries at the time.

One Of The Wildest '90s Cartoons Is Returning With A Blu-Ray Collection This Year

The Highlander franchise has seen multiple movies and TV series over the years, including an animated series in the mid-1990s. Part of a trend where popular R-rated action films received animated adaptations aimed at kids--RoboCop and Rambo to name a few--the Highlander animated series first premiered in 1994. Now, over 30 years later, the full series is coming to Blu-ray with the Highlander: The Complete Animated Series. The Blu-ray collection launches July 29, and preorders are now available at Amazon.

Highlander: The Complete Animated Series $30 | Releases July 29

Highlander: The Complete Animated Series includes all 40 episodes of the two-season animated cartoon. It's worth noting that the series is presented in standard definition, and no bonus material is included, so this is pretty much a basic collection on a single Blu-ray disc. Nevertheless, it will likely be the best way to watch this '90s series in 2025.

Set centuries after a cataclysm plunged humanity back into a post-apocalyptic dark ages, Highlander: The Animated Series kicks off with a secret society of immortals pledging to protect the people, but fellow immortal Kortan seizes this opportunity to establish a new empire that he rules with an iron fist. In time, a new immortal, Quentin MacLeod, rises to challenge him, and the series chronicles his quest to become powerful enough to topple the evil empire. Unsurprisingly, the animated series made a big change to the lore of Highlander to maintain a kid-friendly rating. But even without seeing heads roll, the show still featured a surprising amount of mature content, like character deaths and the exploration of morally gray characters.

Highlander

Highlander: The Animated Series is of course based on the the Highlander film franchise, which has seen five feature-length movies, an anime movie, and even a six-season live action TV show. Unfortunately, most of these are currently out of print and hard to track down. Luckily, the first--and best--Highlander film is available on Blu-ray, and if you're looking to revisit the original film and its hard-rocking Queen soundtrack, you can pick up the Highlander: The Director's Cut 30th Anniversary Edition on 4K Blu-ray for $16.49. This comes with a ton of bonus materials, like a look at the film's iconic soundtrack and audio commentary tracks on the 4K disc, as well as a standard Blu-ray version of the film accompanied by various archival features pulled from previous DVD and Blu-ray releases.

Bungie Responds To Marathon Art Theft Claims

Fri, 05/16/2025 - 19:19

Bungie has admitted to finding stolen art assets in its upcoming extraction shooter Marathon. Graphic artist Antireal has taken to X to claim that Bungie used their poster designs from 2017 without compensation or credit. Bungie admits the claims, and says it will undertake a complete review of the game's assets.

Antireal posted to X on May 15, claiming that "The Marathon alpha released recently and its environments are covered with assets lifted from poster designs I made in 2017." They tagged both Bungie and Marathon's franchise art director, Joseph Cross.

Artist Antireal posted comparison between in-game screenshots and their original art.

They continue, "Bungie is of course not obligated to hire me when making a game that draws overwhelmingly from the same design language I have refined for the last decade, but clearly my work was good enough to pillage for ideas and plaster all over their game without pay or attribution."

Switch 2 Specs Reveal Docked VRR Is Not Supported At Launch

Fri, 05/16/2025 - 19:10

The final pre-launch specs for the Switch 2 have been revealed, and one ongoing mystery has been answered--the Switch 2 will not support variable refresh rate in docked mode, at least not at launch.

Digital Foundry has released a final look at the Switch 2's tech specs, including more details on the console's custom Nvidia processor, and the resources developers will be able to use when making software for the Switch 2. The tech breakdown also confirmed that the Switch 2 will only support VRR in handheld mode, and not while docked.

The question of VRR has been a bit of a mystery for the Switch 2--the console was initially announced as having VRR support in docked mode, as long as it was being used with a VRR-compatible display. The references to VRR were later removed from the Nintendo website, as spotted by Digital Foundry, leaving it unclear whether the console would support VRR.

Fortnite Won't Be Coming To iOS Soon, As Apple Blocks Epic's App Store Submission

Fri, 05/16/2025 - 18:51

Epic Games has announced that Apple has "blocked" its submission to the App Store and Epic Games Store on iOS, meaning that Fortnite won't be available on Apple devices globally for the foreseeable future.

The news comes around two weeks after Epic Games announced that Fortnite would be back on iOS, after a judge filed a major injunction against Apple. A post on the official Fortnite X account reads, "Apple has blocked our Fortnite submission so we cannot release to the US App Store or to the Epic Games Store for iOS in the European Union. Now, sadly, Fortnite on iOS will be offline worldwide until Apple unblocks it."

The official Fortnite X account announced on May 9 that the game had been submitted for review on the App Store, however the company was left waiting an unusually long time without hearing back from Apple with either approval or rejection. Apple's developer website states that 90% of submissions are reviewed within 24 hours, and says developers will be emailed with any status changes.

Netflix's Gears Of War Movie Eyes John Wick Co-Director

Fri, 05/16/2025 - 09:04

Nearly three years ago, Netflix revealed plans to make a Gears of War movie based on the popular video game franchise. Now, the streamer is reportedly circling John Wick co-director David Leitch to bring Marcus Fenix and Delta Squad to live-action.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Leitch is currently in negotiations to helm Gears of War, but his deal hasn't been closed yet. Leitch is a former stuntman who wasn't credited for co-directing the original John Wick with Chad Stahelski. Since then, Leitch has established himself as a solo director with Deadpool 2, Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, Atomic Blonde, Bullet Train, and The Fall Guy.

Even if Leitch's contract with Netflix does eventually get signed, Gears of War seemingly won't be his next film. The director is reportedly preparing to shoot Amazon MGM Studio's heist thriller How to Rob a Bank, which has Nicholas Hoult and Anna Sawai attached to star in it.
