The feeling of reaching the peak in Peak is one of satisfaction. The feeling after slipping into poison, falling off a cliff, or overestimating your stamina--and then dying soon after--is the exact opposite. Peak's new The Roots update adds the Checkpoint Flag, making the climb a little easier.

The Checkpoint Flag is a new item that creates a checkpoint wherever you plant it on the mountain. Then, if you die, you'll respawn back at that point with some of your health intact. It's a whole new lease on life for these fragile little scouts.

Don't place the flag too close to hazards.

The entire The Roots update, which adds a bunch of new badges and items, brings both new challenges and new ways to conquer them for veteran players. The newest items--including both the Checkpoint Flag and the Rescue Claw--make traversing difficult obstacles a breeze if you have them. The Rescue Claw is basically a grappling hook, effortlessly zipping you across caverns and gaps.

The worlds of Silent Hill and Castlevania have crossed over with Dead by Daylight before, but the latest collaboration between Konami and Behaviour Interactive is taking things even further into The Fog. This time, Silent Hill's Pyramid Head and Castlevania's Dracula are teaming up as The Executioner and The Dark Lord. And they aren't the only guest characters in this 2v8 battle.

Dead by Daylight's Silent Hill X Castlevania collaboration starts today, November 6, and extends through November 20. Both of the series' respective villains will be joined by a pair of returning heroes: Silent Hill 3's Cheryl Mason and Castlevania's Trevor Belmont. All four characters are available for free during the 2v8 battles for the duration of this event.

There are also four new outfits--one for each of the returning characters. Trevor's Legendary Outfit essentially transforms him into his descendant, Richter Belmont. Dracula's alternate look is called the Scorched Terror Outfit. Basically, it's what Dracula looks like when he's left in the sun long enough for his skin to blister and peel.

Ubisoft boss Yves Guillemot has openly addressed the intense backlash toward the open-world samurai-ninja adventure Assassin's Creed Shadows, claiming that the shift from "gameplay to ideology" was responsible for its delay from November 15, 2024 to February 14, 2025.

According to a November 5 Game File report, Guillemot showed a video to an audience of games industry insiders during the first day of Paris Games Week, which ran from October 30 to November 2 at the Paris Expo Porte de Versailles. The video was 184 seconds long, professionally narrated, and detailed Ubisoft's response to the vitriol the company faced.

"What happens when a legendary franchise reveals one of its most anticipated experiences? ... Only to become the game everyone loves to hate?" the narrator asks at the start of the video. "When conversation shifts from gameplay to ideology? When everything you say only adds fuel to the fire? And when the voices you thought were with you actually turn against you."

Rockstar Games has announced a big new addition to the GTA+ subscription service. As of today, GTA 5's multiplayer mode, GTA Online, is included with the membership on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

GTA Online became a standalone game in 2022, and it was free on PS5 for a period of time. Now, however, it costs $20 on its own.

GTA+ costs $8/month, and there is no annual plan. The subscription service is available across PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, but GTA Online is not included with GTA+ on PC, only console.

Playing NBA 2K26 might be a way for some NBA players to unwind, but Cleveland Cavaliers guard Donovan Mitchell utilized the game another way. The six-time All-Star was motivated to put up 46 points on November 5 after he said "this kid pissed me off" while playing the basketball game online earlier in the day.

Along with 46 points, Mitchell had eight assists and four rebounds against the Philadelphia 76ers. When asked about the performance, he noted taking inspiration from an online multiplayer encounter in NBA 2K26, according to CBS Sports. "This kid pissed me off today, I was playing 2K," said Mitchell.

"I had been playing 2K for like two hours and I told him, too, I said, 'Just wait.' He called me washed up, he called me a bunch of things. But I love it. He said he hadn't seen a highlight from me in a minute. I just told him, 'Alright, we'll see.'"

The live-action The Legend of Zelda movie from Sony Pictures and Nintendo is now filming. That's according to an update on the Film & Television Industry Alliance website, which states that production began on November 4 and will run through April 7, 2026.

Production is taking place in Wellington, New Zealand. It's just the latest large-scale fantasy movie to be filmed there, following The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, and The Chronicles of Narnia.

As announced previously, Bo Bragason is playing Zelda, with Benjamin Evan Ainsworth cast as Link. Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto is a producer on the Zelda movie, alongside Marvel veteran Avi Arad. Maze Runner director Wes Ball is directing the film with Derek Connolly (Star Wars, Jurassic World, Pokemon: Detective Pikachu) writing the screenplay.

Rockstar Games has pushed back against the claims that a group of recently laid-off developers were removed for trying to unionize. Instead, these people were leaking company secrets, Rockstar said.

A spokesperson for Rockstar told Bloomberg that the staffers were "distributing and discussing confidential information in a public form." This violated Rockstar's policies, the company said. "This was in no way related to people's right to join a union or engage in union activities."

Between 30 and 40 people were fired from Rockstar's offices in Canada and the UK related to what the developer labeled "gross misconduct." A spokesperson for the Independent Workers' Union of Great Britain (IWGB) said the affected staffers were involved in unionizing efforts and said Rockstar is guilty of "one of the most blatant and ruthless acts of union-busting in the history of the games industry."

Another cool feature with this controller is that it has a button-activated slider that raises your phone into playing position with a single smooth motion. Kickback Mode allows you to remove the control cover and prop your phone up for tabletop play.

The controller also supports games that are played in Portrait Mode, and it features all the inputs you'd expect for modern-day gaming. Smartphone controllers have become popular over the last couple of years, thanks in part to subscription services like Netflix and Crunchyroll offering a library of games for members to access, and there are several brands out there that offer high-quality add-ons like this.

One of the biggest is Backbone, as it currently sells controllers that are also portable and make mobile gaming a more pleasant experience. The company recently announced a collaboration with Hideo Kojima's studio to produce a Death Stranding 2: On the Beach Backbone controller, but if you're in a rush, the Backbone One with a USB-C connection is available for $100, and for older iPhones, the Backbone One with a Lightning connection is available at the same price.

This year, Naughty Dog is celebrating its 40th anniversary as a studio, which had humble beginnings compared to its current status as one of Sony's most important first-party developers. Andy Gavin and Jason Rubin formed the company when they were still teenagers, and the foundation they built continues long after they left Naughty Dog. Now, Naughty Dog has shared a retrospective video for its 40th anniversary that revisits some of its greatest hits while looking ahead to the future.

Gavin and Rubin discuss the company's earliest origins, which date back to their time in school. The video doesn't focus much on the company's largely forgotten early titles, including Rings of Power and Way of the Warrior. Instead, it marks the debut of the Crash Bandicoot and Jak and Daxter franchises as a turning point for Naughty Dog.

From there, the retrospective moves on to the company's cinematic action era that began in 2007 with Uncharted, and continues through The Last of Us Part 2 and the studio's upcoming game, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. Earlier this year, Grow a Garden--a game created by an unknown teenage Roblox user--blew up in popularity and became one of the biggest titles of 2025 with concurrent player counts that rivaled and even exceeded Fortnite. Now, Grow a Garden is growing in Hollywood as well thanks to a new movie based on the game.

As reported by Deadline, Story Kitchen--a production company behind several video game adaptations--has signed a deal with Grow a Garden's creators to develop it as a feature film. No plot details were disclosed, possibly because there is no story to speak of in the game itself. Instead, the report states that the film will "invite audiences of all ages into a whimsical, emotional, and unexpectedly epic story about growth, friendship, and the magic that happens when you nurture something from the ground up."

"Grow a Garden is exactly the kind of imaginative, heartfelt world we love to adapt," said the co-founders of Story Kitchen, Dmitri M. Johnson and Michael Lawrence Goldberg, in a statement. "[It's] an uplifting story-world rooted in play, creativity, and community."

Arcades may be largely a thing of the past, but some of the bigger cabinets of the '90s offered players co-op battles and head-to-head match-ups that consoles of that era couldn't match. Now, one of those games, Namco's Tokyo Wars, is finally getting its first console port after debuting in 1996.

Tokyo Wars is coming to modern consoles as part of Hamster Corporation's Arcade Archives and Arcade Archives 2 collections. The game lets players control a tank or a team of tanks as they face off against a rival team in Tokyo's downtown district or the city's bayside dock. In the arcades, up to eight players could take part in Tokyo Wars' head-to-head battles if four two-player cabinets were linked together. The cabinets also featured an air-powered recoil that simulated the sensation of tank fire.

It's important to note that the Arcade Archives version for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch don't have as many options as the Arcade Archives 2 version on other consoles. In the former, players will get the original arcade game, a high-score mode, and a caravan mode that gives players 10-minutes to come out on top. Each of those modes will support online rankings.
