PlayStation Portal Update Adds More Features To Cloud Streaming
Sony has announced that it'll be pushing out a new update later today for the PlayStation Portal remote player. The new update will focus on the Cloud Streaming Beta feature.
Players will now be able to utilize the Create button just like they would on a PS5 DualSense controller when cloud streaming select games from the PS Plus Catalog. Pressing it once opens up the create menu, holding it down takes a screenshot, and pressing it twice enables video recordings.
Gameplay will now pause during cloud streaming sessions when players open up the PS Portal quick menu and also when a system error message is displayed at the bottom of the screen. It will also pause if the Portal is put into rest mode. However, if it's in rest mode for more than 15 seconds, the cloud streaming session will be disconnected. Players will also be notified when a session is about to close after 10 minutes of inactivity.

The Switch 2 lacks the innovation to help give it staying power and might struggle to match the sales of the original Switch. That's the opinion of analyst Jay Defibaugh of Tokyo-based CLSA.
He told FT that, adjusted for inflation, the Switch 2 is $50 more expensive than the launch-price of the original Switch ($300), and Nintendo hasn't done enough to position it as a long-term seller.
"I don't know if it has the innovation, the kind of new design or function, to have the long lasting power as the previous Switch," Defibaugh said.

The Molasses Flood, the CD Projekt Red-owned studio behind games like The Flame in the Flood, has fully merged with CD Projekt Red proper, losing its studio identity as it continues work on a multiplayer The Witcher game.
"We want to let you know that on April 1, 2025, The Molasses Flood LLC (“TMF”) merged with CD PROJEKT RED Inc. (“CDPR Inc.”), a company being a part of the CD PROJEKT Group," a statement on the studio's website reads. "As a result of the merger TMF, in its former legal state (of a separate legal entity) ceased its operations, while CDPR Inc. assumed the rights and obligations of TMF. The merger will not affect the availability or distribution of The Flame in The Flood and Drake Hollow video games, which will continue to be published by CD PROJEKT Group."
Studio co-founder Damian Isla is also leaving the studio, calling it "the end of the era" in a LinkedIn post that simultaneously argues that "this is a good and healthy thing for the studio, and it was long-expected." The Molasses Flood was first formed as an independent studio in 2014. In the years that followed, it released the roguelike survival game The Flame in the Flood and the cooperative creature-raising action game Drake Hollow.

A Minecraft Movie is doing big numbers at the box office and could end up being one of the year's biggest movies. Director Jared Hess, who made a name for himself with the sleeper indie hit Napoleon Dynamite 20 years ago, was already a fan of the game when he signed on to direct. However, nothing could prepare him for taking on such a massive franchise and the hate fans gave that first teaser.
Speaking to Deadline about all things Minecraft--and where the Napoleon Dynamite statue ended up--Hess said the teaser's release was the hardest part of the process, and something he felt like he had to recover from.
"It did not provide a lot of context, and there was so much unfinished visual effects shots that we were still right in the middle of working on and a number of things. We definitely had to spend a lot of time recovering from that experience," he said. "But we all stayed the course. You can't go down the rabbit hole of every comment on Reddit and trying to let comments direct the look of anything."
Continue Reading at GameSpotNintendo Won't Raise Switch 2's Launch Price Over Tariffs, Suggests Analyst
Nintendo's official unveiling of Switch 2 coincided with President Trump unleashing higher tariffs on all imports, including consoles and games. In response, Nintendo took the extraordinary step of delaying Switch 2 preorders amidst market uncertainty. However, one analyst believes that Nintendo won't increase Switch 2's $450 price before launching on June 5.
David Cole, the founder of the research firm DFC Intelligence, told Eurogamer that he expects Nintendo to maintain the $450 price initially, and added "we believe that price point was reached with the threat of tariffs already looming." Cole also said that if the 24% tariffs on goods from Japan remain in place, Switch 2's price could rise 20% within the next two years. He went on to suggest that Nintendo may limit the amount of Switch 2 consoles available at launch in response to the tariffs. Tariffs are even higher on goods coming from China and Vietnam, where Nintendo is manufacturing the system.
"There may be a supply issue if Nintendo chooses to limit production initially," noted Cole. "Nintendo is very conservative and they don't like to take big risks on having surplus inventory. So they may take a bit of a wait-and-see approach given some of the current unknowns."

One of the biggest talking points following the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct was how Mario Kart World is priced at $80 USD. That's $10-$20 higher than most major AAA games, prompting people to voice their opinions about the price hike. Nintendo isn't charging $80 for all Switch 2 games, but why is it doing so for Mario Kart World?
Serkan Toto of Kantan Games told GI.biz that Nintendo is doing this simply because they can, and any online "uproar" will blow over in time.
"I think they raised software prices across all these regions because they think they can," Toto said. "Nintendo already priced in the protest and uproar by part of the fan base, betting this will all blow off and gamers will come to accept a new normal eventually. And I think they will be correct about this."

Microsoft has announced the Xbox Games Showcase 2025, and it's coming on June 8, promising details on upcoming Xbox games. There will be another event, The Outer Worlds 2 Direct, immediately following.

A new GameCube controller will launch alongside the Nintendo Switch 2 console in June, but don't expect this device to work on anything but classic GameCube titles. While the NES, SNES, and Genesis controllers can be used on more games than just the ones they were intended for--depending on the inputs required--the GameCube controller will be the exception.
That's according to the disclaimer from the GameCube Classics reveal trailer from the Nintendo April Direct (and spotted by VGC). "The controller is only compatible with Nintendo GameCube: Nintendo Classics," the fine print reads.
Always read the fine print. What makes this an odd omission is that the GameCube controller has almost every input necessary for the majority of modern games, even if the placement of buttons is a little bit unusual when compared to the standard arrangement on other current-day controllers. It is worth noting that it offers extra functionality compared to the original as well, as it includes features such as wireless connectivity and the Switch 2's brand-new C button for live chat.

Mario Kart World for Switch 2 was recently officially unveiled, but Nintendo made no mention of the franchise's most iconic track, Rainbow Road. It appears it will indeed once again return, as an image that leaked from Nintendo Korea's website appears to tease Rainbow Road.
As spotted by Eurogamer, the Nintendo Korea website for Mario Kart World posted--and swiftly removed--the image below. It seems to suggest Rainbow Road is coming back, and might be featured on the Mario Kart World map near Princes Peach's Castle.
Rainbow Road has finally been found. It seems it will be unlocked later in the game.byu/TonkyTc inmariokart
For anyone just catching up, Mario Kart World features a sprawling, interconnected world where players can drive from one course to another. Members of the press got to play Mario Kart World during a Switch 2 demo event recently, but the game's open-world map was limited.

Jack Black stars in A Minecraft Movie as Steve, but Black wasn't apparently the first choice to play the role. According to Puck, actor and comedian Matt Berry was originally cast in the role.
The What We Do in the Shadows actor still shows up in the movie, however, voicing a villager named Nitwit. Jennifer Coolidge's character, Marlene, hits him with a car and later goes on a date with him.
Berry took this smaller role reportedly due to "scheduling conflicts" that came about after the 2023 actor strike.

A Donkey Kong Bananza promotional image posted by Nintendo Korea may have accidentally revealed one of the game's major characters--a young girl who looks suspiciously similar to Pauline.
As picked up by GamesRadar, the character's appearance in the Nintendo Korea box art has led to a flurry of speculation as fans try to decipher what role Pauline might play in the game, and whether her young appearance means Bananza is in fact a prequel.
For those less familiar with the extended Mario/Donkey Kong universe, Pauline is a side character who first appeared as the iconic damsel in distress in the 1981 Donkey Kong arcade game. While she disappeared from the games for some time after that, she reappeared as the mayor of New Donk City in Super Mario Odyssey, and has since become a regular character in Mario spin-off titles.

Supergiant Games has revealed some new details about Hades 2, including the fact that it runs at 60fps on Switch 2. The game is also launching later this year on the upcoming system as a timed console exclusive (alongside Switch 1).
"We learned so much from developing the original [Hades] on Nintendo Switch and we wanted to take those learnings forward to Nintendo Switch 2," explained studio director Amir Rao in a new Nintendo Creator's Voice video. "That meant for us being completely uncompromising when it comes to performance. We really really want our games to perform at 60fps."
He added that the extra power from Switch 2 will allow the studio to push Hades 2's graphical features. It got its second major update, the Warsong update, last month, which added in areas from the first game. The PC version has been in early access since last year.
