GRRM Teases House Of The Dragon Season 2's First Episodes: "They May Make You Cry"

Game News - Fri, 12/08/2023 - 02:59

George R.R. Martin has shared insights on the much-anticipated second season of the Game of Thrones spinoff, House of the Dragon. In a blog post, Martin writes that co-creator Ryan Condal provided a preview of the first two episodes of House of the Dragon Season 2 and, without revealing spoilers, Martin emphasized the intensely emotional nature of the upcoming episodes.

Martin shared in his blog post that the episodes are "dark, mind you. Very dark. They may make you cry. Powerful, emotional, gut-wrenching, heart-rending. Just the sort of thing I like." Fans familiar with the Fire & Blood book, which serves as the basis for the series, may not find this revelation surprising. The first trailer, released over the weekend, hinted at the impending Targaryen civil war that will be the central focus of the second season.

In the House of the Dragon Season 2 trailer, Otto Hightower acknowledges "errors were made" following King Viserys's death. However, he omits any mention that these errors seemingly favored him. The new footage from the Game of Thrones prequel suggests that these benefits won't bode well for Westeros.

Pokemon Scarlet/Violet's New DLC Will Even Let You Fly In The Main Paldea Region

Game News - Fri, 12/08/2023 - 02:55

Nintendo has shared new details on Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's upcoming DLC expansion, The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero Part 2: The Indigo Disk. Among other things, DLC's new flying mechanic will extend to the main Paldea region, while players will also be able to "synchronize" with a Pokemon to take on their form.

As we previously learned, the DLC allows players to temporarily gain the ability to fly on top of Koraidon (for Pokemon Scarlet players) or Miraidon (Violet). While this is limited at first, progressing further into the expansion will unlock this flying ability permanently, including in the main Paldea region from the base game.

The new Synchro Machine device debuting in this expansion allows players to "see the world through the eyes of their Pokemon." In the trailer, we see that the player-trainer controls Pikachu and races other Pokemon on tracks similar to Pokemon Dash. Players can obtain the Synchro Machine as soon they are finished aiding one of the scientists with her research.

Nicolas Cage Talks About His Canceled Superman Movie And What Went Wrong

Game News - Fri, 12/08/2023 - 02:55

Nicolas Cage has appeared in more than 100 movies over his lengthy career, but one project that never came together was a Superman movie from director Tim Burton. Speaking at the Red Sea Film Festival recently, Cage discussed the project and explained why it was never made.

He said the studio wanted a different director, Renny Harlin (Die Hard 2, Cliffhanger), to make the Superman movie, not Burton, who previously directed 1989's Batman. Cage surmised that the studio got nervous about the budget for Superman and decided to call it off.

"I knew if you're gonna play that part, you have to hit the bull's eye. We got really close, but the studio called and shut the whole thing down," he said, as reported by Deadline. "I think they were afraid about how much it would cost and [if] they would get their money back."

Ryan Reynolds Leaks His Own Hilarious Deadpool 3 Set Photos, Including One With Urkel

Game News - Fri, 12/08/2023 - 01:35

Are the Merc with the Mouth and Wolverine going to face off against the Predator in Deadpool 3? No, not really, but Ryan Reynolds decided to "leak" his own set photos from the upcoming movie with hilarious cameo characters, including Urkel from Family Matters, too.

On X (formerly known as Twitter), Reynolds shared a thread of "Deadpool Leaks." He, alongside Wolverine actor Hugh Jackson, look like they're engaged in a conversation with the Predator for the first edited photo. Then the duo are spotted again in an action scene with Mickey Mouse cheering on the mercenary. The best, though, is probably the long-distance shot of Urkel cutting a rug.

Deadpool began with a leak. So I’m joining in. But PLEASE don’t overuse the phrase, “Deadpool Leaks” because it might screw up search results if anyone is looking for Deadpool leaks or Deadpool spoilers or perhaps, Deadpool Scoops. #DeadpoolLeaks #DeadpoolSpoiler #DeadpoolScoop pic.twitter.com/yxZN8MslLn

All of this comes just a day after Reynolds asked for restraint at spoiling Deadpool 3 with the film shooting out in the real world instead of a closed digital set. "Telephoto lenses continue to spoil surprises and create a difficult situation for everyone. Here's hoping some of the websites and social channels hold back showing images before they're ready," he said.

Alone In The Dark Has Been Delayed (Again) To March

Game News - Fri, 12/08/2023 - 01:34

January is usually a lean month for high-profile new releases on the gaming calendar, and it's about to get even drier as Alone in the Dark has been delayed to March 20. Originally scheduled to launch next month, THQ Nordic confirmed the delay for a good reason. As the holiday season fast approaches and everyone looks to catch their breath, developer Pieces Interactive will be looking to avoid having to crunch on the game to reach the initial January 16 deadline.

"With our initially planned release date in January 2024, the Christmas season would have been filled with stress and anything but a jolly time for them," THQ Nordic and Pieces Interactive wrote in a press release. "Therefore, THQ Nordic and Pieces Interactive have decided to give Alone in the Dark a new release date: March 20, 2024. The well-being of the teams is a top priority, and both companies want to avoid any potential crunch over the Christmas holidays."

Pieces Interactive will also spend the extra time adding some more polish to the game. The new release date moves it out of the way of other big January releases like Tekken 8 and Like a Dragon 8: Infinite Wealth, and just two days before the arrival of Princess Peach: Showtime and Dragon's Dogma 2. This isn't the first time that Alone in the Dark has been delayed, as the game was originally scheduled to launch in October , before THQ Nordic wisely decided to avoid crossing paths with Marvel's Spider-Man 2, Alan Wake 2, and Super Mario Bros. Wonder.

New Civilization Revealed After Strategy Game Gets Rebranded

Game News - Fri, 12/08/2023 - 01:24

A mobile strategy game called Conquests & Alliances - 4X Empire Builder has been in soft launch for multiple months in some regions, and 2K has just revealed that it will be retitled Civilization: Eras and Allies to become an official part of the Civilization series. 2K also clarified that the mobile title is being developed by a third-party studio, and will have no impact on the next mainline Civ game.

Even after the name change takes effect, Eras and Allies is still in a soft launch phase for the time being. While 2K isn't gearing up to promote the mobile title just yet, it did send out a statement clarifying the game's place in the series, knowing fans would catch on to the change in title.

"As part of our continued efforts to explore and expand into new audiences, Civilization: Eras & Allies is in soft launch in limited territories," a 2K spokesperson said. "Civilization: Eras & Allies is a new standalone free-to-play mobile 4X social strategy game, featuring exciting new gameplay mechanics designed with the mobile social strategy gamer in mind."

The Last Of Us Season 2 Confirmed For 2025 Release

Game News - Fri, 12/08/2023 - 00:52

HBO had already signaled that The Last of Us will return in 2025, but now it's 100% confirmed. The newest Max sizzle reel specifically stated that Season 2 of the hit show will arrive in 2025.

In May, HBO said Season 2 was penciled in for release in 2025, but that window was assigned to the show prior to the onset of the strikes. Some believed the sophomore season could slip to sometime later, but thankfully for fans, that is not the case. More recently, HBO boss Casey Bloys said in November that Season 2 was being eyed for release in 2025.

Production on The Last of Us Season 2 is set to begin in February 2024 in Canada. The second season is expected to adapt events of The Last of Us: Part II, which means Abby will show up. Bella Ramsey, who plays Ellie, recently discussed how she had a "big fear" that Season 2 wouldn't be able to live up to the highly acclaimed Season 1.
