Barbarian Director's Resident Evil Reboot Movie Gets A Release Date

Sat, 03/08/2025 - 06:27

Earlier this year, reports emerged that a new Resident Evil movie was in the works from Zach Cregger, the writer and director of Barbarian, a recent breakout horror hit. Now, after a reportedly fierce bidding war among studios, the Resident Evil reboot is remaining with Sony Pictures, the studio that released the first seven films in the franchise.

Sony has confirmed that the next Resident Evil film will arrive on September 18, 2026. Cregger will direct the movie and co-write the script with Shay Hatten, a veteran of the John Wick films and their upcoming spin-off, Ballerina. Constantin Film--which produced the six Resident Evil movies starring Milla Jovovich as well as 2021's previous reboot attempt, Resident Evil: Welcome To Raccoon City--will produce and co-finance the new movie alongside Sony's PlayStation Productions.

A previous report from The Hollywood Reporter indicated that Warner Bros. and Netflix were among the bidders for the new incarnation of Resident Evil, which is believed to be a fresh start for the franchise. Cregger's Resident Evil film has been described by THR as "a revamp that will take the title to its horror roots and be more faithful to the initial games."

Get A Wireless Logitech Gaming Mouse For Only $28

Sat, 03/08/2025 - 06:10

It’s not uncommon for today’s best gaming mice to carry price tags over $100, but if you’re in the market for something much more affordable, check out the Logitech G305 Wireless Gaming Mouse discounted at Amazon. You can now pick it up for just $28.50 (was $50), which is the best price we’ve seen this year (and just shy of its all-time low of $24.88).

Logitech G305 Lightspeed Wireless Gaming Mouse $28.50 (was $50)

The G305 is a no-frills mouse that’s ideal for casual gaming across all genres. Featuring a 12K sensor for accurate movement tracking, up to 12,000 DPI, an ambidextrous design, and a 1ms response time thanks to the Lightspeed USB receiver, it’s shockingly well-equipped given its new low price point. It’s also quite light at just 99 grams, so you won’t have to worry about wrist strain during long gaming sessions.

You won’t have to worry about its battery running out either, as it’s rated for up to 250 hours on a single AA battery. There are a few side buttons as well, giving it a total of 6 programmable buttons--so while it’s probably not enough for dedicated MMORPG players, it’s more than enough for most other uses.

If you need to travel with the mouse, it benefits from a built-in storage slot for the USB receiver. A two-year limited warranty is included for added peace of mind. The black version of this mouse is the most affordable at $28.50, and a white version is also available for $31. Blue, lilac, and mint colors are also on sale--though the price cuts aren’t nearly as impressive.

See at Amazon Logitech G Pro Wireless Gaming Mouse $69 (was $130)

Willing to stretch your budget by $40? Take a peek at the Logitech G Pro Wireless Gaming Mouse that’s also on sale right now. It features a better 25K sensor than the G305, plus up to 25,600 DPI for added flexibility. It also shed some weight, clocking in at 80 grams instead of 99, and tacks on two extra customizable buttons, bringing the total number to eight. It still boasts an ambidextrous design and a 1ms response time (thanks to the same Lightspeed USB receiver), but its other specs make it a better fit for folks serious about competitive gaming.

Logitech makes a bunch of popular gaming mice--so if you’re not sold on either of the two above, here are a handful of others to check out. These are all more expensive than the two above, but if you’re seeking a premium companion for all your gaming endeavors, they’re worth a closer look. For something truly different, 8BitDo recently released a Retro R8 Mouse and Mechanical Keyboard with striking designs inspired by Halo.

Fortnite Is Being Sued Over Its Item Shop Again

Sat, 03/08/2025 - 05:57

Fortnite has been the subject of lawsuits and other regulatory action a number of times over the years regarding its FOMO-driven item shop practices, and now we've got another one for the pile. A new proposed class-action suit filed in California and Texas, as reported by Polygon, takes aim at "fake countdown timers" that would seemingly indicate that an item is leaving the shop imminently--even though very often items would stick around for days or weeks after the timer expired.

This suit is not, however, taking issue with the Fortnite item shop as it exists today. The timers in question were removed from Fortnite in 2023 as a result of action by regulators in The Netherlands, and replaced last May with new disclaimers on each item in the shop declaring the exact date and time they will leave the shop. So this suit is about Epic's alleged sins of the past.

Before 2024, the Fortnite item shop was a much more nebulous place. Players were simply never told how long things would stay in the shop--when something appeared, it might stay for a day, a week, or a month, but there was no sure way to know. Sometimes the official Fortnite Twitter would announce that an item would be leaving, but those warnings usually came just hours before they left.

Leaked Battlefield 6 Playtest Gameplay Shows What's Next For The Franchise

Sat, 03/08/2025 - 05:22

Leaked gameplay footage of the next, still-untitled Battlefield game is making its way online, giving fans a glimpse at what the future of the franchise will entail.

A small number of players are currently playing the next installment in the Battlefield franchise as part of an early Battlefield Labs playtest, and though those playing are under an NDA, gameplay footage has unsurprisingly leaked online. Publisher EA, at least initially, seemed to be pulling down leaked footage of the playtest, but many clips continue to circulate online for the time being.

around 9 minutes of footage with sound since it seems EA retracted the takedowns pic.twitter.com/p3lEaw2FBA

— bob. (@BobNetworkUK_) March 7, 2025

Despite the large scale playtest being described as existing so that players can give feedback on a pre-alpha version of the game, the new Battlefield looks to be fairly far along. This new entry takes place in the modern day rather than in the past (Battlefield 1 or Battlefield V) or the future (Battlefield 2042), bringing to mind the look and feel of games like Battlefield 3 and 4.

Spelunky 2 Gets Surprise PS5 Version With A Crucial Update--If You Can Take Advantage Of It

Sat, 03/08/2025 - 04:22

The beloved roguelike platformer Spelunky 2 was released in 2020 for PlayStation 4, and a native PS5 version just dropped yesterday, March 6.

While the PS4 version can back played on PS5 via backwards compatibility, the PS5 version has one crucial upgrade, as noted by Polygon. It can also run at a blazing-fast 120fps, provided that your monitor or TV has the capability to show those frames. Those extra frames could be the difference between victory and defeat in an unforgiving game like Spelunky 2.

Spelunky 2 costs $20 on PSN. Fortunately, those who already own Spelunky 2 on PS4 can simply upgrade to the PS5 version for free. The game also has cross-play to its online multiplayer functions, so players can join up with others from different platforms.

This Underrated Mario Game Just Arrived On Switch Online

Sat, 03/08/2025 - 03:34

Nintendo has just added not one, but two amazing Game Boy titles to Switch Online: Mario's Picross and Donkey Kong '94. The former was the introduction to the logic-puzzle genre that seems ubiquitous today but was rare in 1995. Intriguingly enough, the same developer behind Mario's Picross--Jupiter Corp.--has created the Picross S series on Switch.

Meanwhile, Donkey Kong '94 begins almost like a remake of the original Donkey Kong arcade game. But from there, the Game Boy title turns into a puzzle-platformer with Mario as the protagonist trying to rescue Pauline. You can see a video showcasing both games in action below.

Last week, Nintendo announced it would delist a Switch Online game for the first time ever in Japan. Super Formation Soccer, known as Super Soccer in the US, will leave the subscription service on March 28.

Killing Floor 3 Delayed, Post-Launch Update To Undo A Controversial Change

Sat, 03/08/2025 - 03:32

Tripwire Interactive has announced that Killing Floor 3, which had been scheduled to release on March 25, has been delayed to an unspecified date later this year. A number of changes will be made to the game both for the new launch date and afterward.

Chief among those changes is a post-release update that will separate perk classes from characters, letting the two be chosen independently. The initial change to tie your class choice to a character proved to be contentious with some fans, mirroring similar complaints about Battlefield 2042's debut with hero-style classes.

"With the full support of our parent company, Embracer Group, we're working together on a timeline to address many of the common issues players had during the beta, including performance/stability, UI/UX, lighting, and weapon feel," the studio said in a statement. "We can confirm that an update allowing you to independently select your perk class and character is planned for post-release."

It’s from Strahd von Zarovich, who has invited the adventurers to his home at Castle Ravenloft. However, this isn’t a simple dinner party, as the castle proves to be haunted with all sorts of ghastly secrets. The five companions will need to work together and battle through its halls if they hope to make it out of Barovia alive.

There’s plenty of time to read through the first installment ahead of its release, so consider giving it a look if you’re interested in checking out the sequel.

One of the most iconic Marvel villains, Dr. Doom, is making his debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe next year with the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday film. MCU-alum Robert Downey Jr.--who previously played Tony Stark, aka Iron Man--is returning to don the villain's metallic mask, and soon fans will be able to do the same with the new Marvel Legends Series Doctor Doom Premium Helmet. The wearable collectible is available to preorder for $100 at Amazon and Best Buy.

Amazon lists the release date as August 1, but Best Buy's listing says June 1. It's possible Best Buy has a timed exclusive, but it's also possible one of the retailers will update the date to match the other.

Marvel Legends Series Doctor Doom Premium Helmet $100 | Releases June 1 / August 1

This 1:1 scale helmet is based on Dr. Doom's classic appearance in the Fantastic Four comics, featuring his signature metal mask and green hood. The helmet measures 15 inches long, 9.5 inches wide, and 10 inches tall, which is big enough to be worn by most adults, making it a great cosplay piece. It also comes with a display stand emblazoned with Dr. Doom's insignia if you want to show it off as a collectible on your shelf. The hood is also removable, revealing the full helmet.

Monster Hunter Wilds' Next Update Resolves Some Notable Issues

Sat, 03/08/2025 - 02:29

Capcom has outlined what players can expect from the next update for Monster Hunter Wilds, mainly fixes for some frustrating bugs that made customizing equipment or collecting monster parts more frustrating.

Monster Hunter Wilds launched on the last day of February and has already sold over 8 million copies, according to Capcom. While Monster Hunter Wilds is a great game overall, players did spot several issues that made the hunting process more frustrating. Ahead of Title Update 1's release next month, Capcom has outlined the issues it plans to fix in Monster Hunter Wilds Ver. 1.000.05.00 on March 10.

That notably includes a glitch where cut-off monster parts would change into different monster parts and issues that would revert certain customization changes when using the Equipment Loadout menu. GTA 6 Could Help Xbox Have "One Last Hurrah" This Generation, Analyst Says

Sat, 03/08/2025 - 01:02

Microsoft has lost this console generation to Sony when it comes to pure sales, but according to one analyst, the release of GTA 6 could be a "last hurrah" for the Xbox Series X and S consoles. Rhys Elliott of MIDiA Research said in an interview that, although Sony will emerge as this console generation's victor, Microsoft could benefit substantially from GTA 6's launch in terms of hardware sales, especially of the less expensive Series S console.

"Like Rockstar's other flagship titles, GTA 6 will hit PlayStation and Xbox before it hits PC. Therefore, it could pay off for Xbox to have a significant Series S push and fire sale to tie in with GTA 6--as one last hurrah for this generation," Elliott told Windows Central. "The marketing team should be banging the drum, highlighting that 'The Series S is the most accessible way to play GTA 6.' A sub-$200 Series S could be an enticing entry point to GTA for cash-strapped consumers, of which there are many, thanks to today's tumultuous economy and cost-of-living crisis."

Currently, the 512 GB Xbox Series S is priced at $300, with the 1 TB version going for $350--it's not uncommon to see lower prices, though. Even if those prices hold until GTA 6 launches this year, the Series S would remain the least-expensive console someone could buy to play GTA 6, as the Series X and PS5 are more expensive.

Atomfall Is A Detective Game In A Post-Apocalyptic England

Sat, 03/08/2025 - 01:00

Atomfall is a detective game. Yes, the post-apolyctic first-person shooter from the Sniper Elite studio feels more like Paradise Killer than Fallout. Rather than ping-ponging between objective markers around a map, Atomfall's story is structured around a series of clues that are organically picked up and tracked as you explore its world. Its quests are nonlinear and you're gently guided to points of interest. From there, it's on you to reference your quest log and put the story of its world together.

Atomfall's world might look derivative given how prevalent the post-apocalyptic genre is, but its setting and tone do a lot to differentiate it from its peers. The game takes place five years after the Windscale fire of 1957, a real-world event that happened in the UK and is considered one of the worst nuclear accidents in history. However, Atomfall envisions a world that never properly recovered from that disastrous event. Violent factions have popped up all over England, irradiated monsters roam the wilds, and--of course--there might be a few government conspiracies at play.

Swinging the axe in Atomfall

While this may sound like Fallout England, Atomfall's tone is quite different. The dark, sarcastic humor of the wasteland is mostly replaced with a more grounded take on the genre. Creative Director Ben Fisher really wanted to capture the look and feel of British speculative fiction and science-fiction from the 1950s and 1960s, like Doctor Who and John Wyndham novels. The result feels like a uniquely British take on the post-apocalyptic setting.

Destiny 2 Guardian Games 2025 Adds New Boss Rush Mode, Rushdown

Sat, 03/08/2025 - 00:20

Since 2020, Destiny 2 has pit the three Guardian classes against each other in the Guardian Games to determine whether the Titans, the Warlocks, or the Hunters will reign supreme for a year. On March 11, the 2025 Guardian Games will begin with a few changes. Guardian Games Nightfalls and Focused Activities have been dropped from this year's event. In their place is a new boss rush mode called Rushdown, which looks like it will test even the most seasoned Destiny 2 players.

Bungie has shared the details for this year's Guardian Games, including the way that Rushdown will work. Rushdown will assemble bosses from the campaigns, the seasonal story missions, and the exotic missions in battles that will get exponentially more difficult for players. Each run through Rushdown will feature five boss encounters, all of which must be completed before time expires. Time gets added to the clock with each boss that goes down, and teams that finish more quickly have a better chance of earning higher quality rewards.

Rushdown includes warm-up, standard, and expert modes, but only the last two will include combatants with modifiers while also letting players receive revive tokens. However, players will get a higher score if they use fewer revive tokens. All three modes will be open for standard matchmaking, class-based matchmaking, and private fireteam matches. Players will be judged by how many bosses they defeated and by their overall score.
