World of Warcraft's next major update is coming August 5, and now Blizzard has revealed two surprise quality-of-life changes that will arrive alongside the new content and season--a bank overhaul and a major update to Valorstones.

As announced in a forum post, in the Ghosts of K'aresh update, banks are getting a significant facelift. For as long as Blizzard's MMORPG has existed (that is, over 20 years), players have had to purchase additional bag bank slots and then place bags within them to get more storage. That will no longer be the case come update 11.2, which will replace bag slots with purchasable storage tabs more similar to stash tabs from Blizzard's Diablo series.

The update will additionally remove the reagent bank and Void Storage, two bank-adjacent storage options that were more restrictive. While some players were initially concerned they might be losing storage space when hearing that news, as broken down in a post by Reddit user SpartanG01 (and highlighted by Icy Veins), the new bank system seems to be a straight upgrade.

Sloclap, the developers behind the recent hit sports title Rematch, have confirmed that cross-play is still a "top priority" to the team as it continues fine-tuning the game and adding much requested features.

In an interview with Eurogamer, the studio's CEO Pierre Tarno shared that cross-play, which was meant to ship with the game at launch, is among a laundry list of social features the team hopes to add to the game over time. These include spectating friends' games, and, ironically given the game's name, the ability to call for rematches.

These features reinforce the first of what Tarno calls Rematch's four core overhaul pillars, defined as "social, core gameplay, competitive, and casual," per Eurogamer.

Snapshot Games' Frosthaven (which I'll henceforth refer to as Frosthaven Digital) is a video game version of the tabletop game of the same name. Frosthaven's predecessor, Gloomhaven, got a similar digital version in 2021 (which was helmed by Flaming Fowl Studios). Unlike games like Baldur's Gate 3 or Cyberpunk 2077, which adapt mechanics and themes from their tabletop inspirations (Dungeons & Dragons and Cyberpunk RED, respectively) to create a unique gameplay experience, Frosthaven Digital is just Frosthaven--it's the board game minus the need to meet up with friends physically. For someone like me, who primarily hangs out with people virtually, Frosthaven Digital is a boon. I've wanted to introduce the board game to friends for a while, and this lets me without us all having to meet up in person to do it.

Gloomhaven Digital was well-received when it came out, and the fanbase has been eager to see Frosthaven make the jump to digital as well. Among the excitement, however, has been a recurring concern: Will Frosthaven Digital have an undo feature? In person, when you make a mistake while playing a tabletop game, the only thing stopping you from fixing it is you and your friends. That's not necessarily the case for a video game if there's no option to do so. In Gloomhaven Digital, it was possible to restart an entire encounter if you wanted, but there was no way to simply start your turn over or undo your last action. It was frustratingly awful, with misclicks resulting in a wasted turn. Fans have wondered if Frosthaven Digital will follow suit, and thankfully, it's not.

"[Undo] was the most requested feature [for] Gloomhaven," Frosthaven game director Hristo Petkov told me. "It [didn't] exist in Gloomhaven Digital, and according to our engineers, it was impossible [for Frosthaven Digital]. But yeah, we did it."

Guild Wars 2, ArenaNet's free-to-play MMORPG that first launched in 2012, is receiving its sixth expansion on October 28. Titled Visions of Eternity, it will have players setting sail for a mythical island, one where they'll be able to unlock a new beachside Homestead and more.

In Visions of Eternity, players will journey into the unknown to the fabled island of Castora, where they'll need to put a stop to a group of evildoers looking to use the island for their own nefarious ends.

On launch day, Visions of Eternity will add a swath of new features to the 13-year-old MMORPG, including two new maps to explore, new legendary weapons, updates to the Skimmer mount, new Homestead housing system features, and additional elite specializations for each profession to allow for more build possibilities.

Oblivion Remastered's latest update fixes an issue Elder Scrolls lore fans have been wondering about since the remaster's release, though the change isn't listed in the official patch notes.

Spoilers for Oblivion ahead. Those who have previously played the original Oblivion's Dark Brotherhood storyline will likely remember the intimidating door to the Dark Brotherhood's Cheydinhal sanctuary, which sports a relief depicting a woman (the Night Mother) raising a knife against her children. The Night Mother had five children she conceived with the god-like entity Sithis, which is backed up by the fact that inside the Night Mother's tomb in-game, there are skeletal remains of one adult and five children.

That, however, isn't what the Dark Brotherhood door in Oblivion Remastered looks like. Not only is it lacking the moody red lighting of the original, but it is actually lore-inaccurate as well. In the launch version of Oblivion Remastered, the door shows seven children instead of five.

A collection of Mario games received a surprise patch, but it mostly serves as a rude reminder that Nintendo stopped selling it over four years ago. The version 1.1.3 software update for Super Mario 3D All-Stars is specifically for its performance on Nintendo Switch 2, with the Nintendo support website saying that the update addresses "several issues" to "improve gameplay on Nintendo Switch 2."

The update notes do not detail what these issues were or how gameplay is improved when playing on Switch 2. 3D All-Stars also received an update on June 3, shortly before the Switch 2's launch, but Nintendo's website used identical language then, offering no specifics. 3D All-Stars is not on Nintendo's list of Switch 1 games that received Switch 2 enhancements via free updates.

An observer on Reddit who booted up 3D All-Stars after the Switch 2 update claims that it still runs at 1080p in docked mode, adding that the UI may have received a resolution upscale. Other users note that Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine still run at 30fps post-update.

EA Sports has delivered several new mechanics and gameplay changes in College Football 26. However, one of the more noteworthy changes the developers implemented is called "No eyes, no pick," which relates to defenders needing to have their head turned around and facing the ball in order to intercept it. In the past, it seemed like defenders had eyes in their back of their heads and were able to pick off passes without even looking at the ball.

While this change is important, it's also crucial that you understand another mechanic to go along with it: swatting the ball. Now that your defenders need to actually face the ball to intercept it, swatting the ball is more vital than ever if you want to stop passes from being completed against your defense. Square Enix is finally confirming details about the Switch and Switch 2 versions of Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake and unfortunately, the news isn't exactly great: Square Enix has stated it will not be providing any update path, free or paid, between the different console releases, effectively treating each like its own thing.

First spotted by Wario64, Square confirmed the news in a FAQ posted to the official Japanese Dragon Quest site. The exact copy on the page reads, "No, there is no upgrade path currently available or planned. Please buy your copy for whichever system you would like to play it on." It also clarifies that the performance of Switch version of Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake will be capped on the Switch 2, meaning that if you want the (likely small) graphical edge, you're going to have to buy the newest version of the title.

The news has understandably upset a contingent of fans due to concerns and reservations surrounding Switch 2 key cards. The Switch 2 version of the Dragon Quest remakes comes on one of these game key cards, which have proven to be controversial since their widespread adoption on the new system, since they don't technically hold any game data on them. Instead, they basically grant a one-time permission to then download the game digitally. The Switch version comes on a traditional cartridge with the game files on it.

What's next for God of War director Cory Barlog and game developer Sony Santa Monica? According to reporter Jason Schreier, Barlog's game is the developer's "next big thing," adding that progress is "going well."

Basically nothing is known about what the game is. Some have theorized that it is a new IP, but Schreier said that's not true. "It's not a new IP but it might feel like one. Maybe that's why people are confused," he said, adding that rumors that the project is sci-fi in nature are "nonsense."

Schreier went on to say that Resetera forum user Ashhong "knows what they are talking about." This person previously said Barlog's new game is "not a licensed game."

Something has gone awry during Fortnite's new update, and the the mega-popular online shooter/metaverse is down. Epic has acknowledged the error with a post on @FortniteStatus that offers no indication of how long the game will remain offline.

"Hey everyone, we're extending downtime while we work to resolve an issue discovered during offline checks. We'll do our best to get Fortnite servers online ASAP. Keep an eye on this thread for any future updates."

There's unlikely to be any further explanation from Epic, but the fact that the company has publicly acknowledged a delay likely means it won't be resolved all that quickly--there's a possibility it will remain offline into the evening. If a fix was coming within an hour or two, Epic would almost certainly have just hunkered down and finished it instead of posting about it. While we have no official explanation for the delay, one datamining group has suggested it's because the new patch doesn't account for a server-side hotfix that was deployed last week.

The newest Nintendo Switch 2 update has arrived. Version 20.2.0 arrived on July 14, fixing an issue with the game's parental control settings and an internet issue.

The patch notes explain that the Switch 2's parental control settings previously may not have correctly transferred from Switch 1 to Switch 2 as part of a system transfer. As for the internet issue, players encountered issues blocking them from advancing past the "Searching for networks" prompt, but that's been fixed now with this new update. Finally, the new Switch 2 update includes "general system stability improvements" that Nintendo didn't provide any specific details about.

Datamining expert Oatmealdome found some additional improvements with the update, including problems with backwards compatibility for Switch 1 games. Specifically, Portal 2 should run better on Switch 2 now.

Like most open-world games, Borderlands 4 will have its fair share of collectibles to hunt down. The catch here is that you'll need to really work to get your hands on collectible bobblehead replicas of everyone's refund-adverse arms dealer, Marcus, as these will be hidden away in hard-to-reach areas.

As detailed by Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford, the idea for these collectibles came from the studio wanting to push the game's enhanced move-set to its very limits. Borderlands 4 has several new traversal options--including gliding, double-jumping, and using a grapple-hook to move around areas--and Gearbox wanted to reward players with a memento for reaching remote spots on the map.

"Graeme Timmons--Borderlands 4's creative director--got with some of our designers and other artists and engineers and decided that we needed something for players to find when they made their way to these remote or uninhabited areas," Pitchford tweeted. "We wanted something of an icon. The same kind of thing in each spot, so players would know they found it. The item had to be simple, recognizable, have a feeling of being something one might collect--and ideally--having real connections to our universe."

Rain falls, wind blows, and the newest PlayStation 5 system update isn't introducing anything revolutionary this week. Sony has confirmed that the Version: 25.05-11.60.00 update is now live for PS5 consoles, adding the usual amount of extra stability that you'd expect with these firmware patches.

"We've improved system software performance and stability," the very brief patch notes read.

The previous system update also added a small stability update to PS5, with the last substantial patch being the Version: 25.03-11.20.00 release. This added audio focus--a feature designed to support broader accessibility and allow players to hear quiet in-game sounds and voice chat more clearly--and it also brought back the home screen themes inspired by various PlayStation generations.

Considering the popularity of the John Wick films, there aren't a lot of video games that let players assume control of the legendary killer. Now, there's going to be one fewer because John Wick Hex is being delisted later this week across PC and consoles.

Big Fan Games announced the news on John Wick Hex's Steam page. The game is being delisted on July 17, but players who purchase it ahead of time will still be able to play their copies. Fans who own a physical copy of John Wick Hex will also continue to have access to this tactical action RPG.

The announcement didn't include a reason for the delisting, but it stands to reason that the John Wick rights may have simply run out for the title. John Wick Hex was originally published by Good Shepherd Entertainment, and it was released on PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch. Good Shepherd's parent company, Devolver Digital, shifted the publishing rights for John Wick Hex to another one of its smaller companies, Big Fan Games, in 2024.

Formula 1, also known as F1, is a hot topic as of late and one of the world’s most popular sports. Whether it's topping the box office with a film starring Brad Pitt, or literally building a track smack in the middle of Las Vegas and hosting a race there, there’s a surging interest in the highly popular international motorsport. While on the surface, Formula 1 seems to be another Grand Prix sport in which drivers test their mettle on the track, diving deeper into the sport reveals a highly competitive battle of technical prowess on and off the track. In many ways, Formula 1 is like playing a video game, in which your gear and build matters right down to the very last detail, making it feel unlike any other sport out there. In fact, I'd argue Formula 1 is the sport to check out if you’re into gaming.

Let's start with the basics, namely: what is Formula 1 and how exactly does it differ from other Grand Prix racing leagues that are fairly common but far less popular? In most other leagues, drivers and teams are required to use the same chassis and vehicle specifications. For example, in NASCAR, every driver uses the same type of vehicle, and the racing advantage comes down to pure skill in the moment-to-moment racing. That’s not the case in Formula 1.

Each F1 team is instead given a series of broad guidelines, specifications, and a budget: a “Formula” for them to follow. Using these guidelines, the teams literally build their race vehicles from scratch, using a fleet of engineers and mechanics. Because every team is able to build their own vehicle, the teams look for every advantage they can in the design and build, right down to the smallest detail. This results in vehicles that have more in common with jets and spacecraft than they do the average car you would see on the street.
