Battlefield Bad Company Designer Reacts To Battlefield 6 Reveal
Battlefield 6 had its big multiplayer reveal this week, and Battlefield: Bad Company designer David Goldfarb is among those who reacted positively.
Posting on social media, Goldfarb said, "Yeah.. Back as f**k" in regards to the Battlefield 6 multiplayer reveal trailer. He clarified in another post that it's too soon to say if Battlefield 6 will indeed be the return to form that it may appear to be. "For sure, we are not back until, you know, we can verify firsthand. But optically, we are back," he said.
Goldfarb worked at DICE on a number of Battlefield games, including Battlefield: Bad Company 1+2, as well as Battlefield 3. Developers at Battlefield Studios says Battlefield 6 is a spiritual successor to Battlefield 3 and 4. Goldfarb previously said some of the Battlefield 6 footage that leaked from the Battlefield Labs test gave off Bad Company 2 vibes.

Adult games--and games with adult themes--have been delisted from digital game sales portals Steam and Itch.io recently, following pressure from companies that process those platforms' payments to remove them. After an extended period of silence on the matter, Mastercard has released a statement and says that its recent actions are based on the "rule of law" and aren't an attempt to enforce censorship.
"Mastercard has not evaluated any game or required restrictions of any activity on game creator sites and platforms, contrary to media reports and allegations," the company said. "Our payment network follows standards based on the rule of law. Put simply, we allow all lawful purchases on our network. At the same time, we require merchants to have appropriate controls to ensure Mastercard cards cannot be used for unlawful purchases, including illegal adult content."
It's worth noting that there has been no evidence that the games removed from Steam and Itch.io included illegal content, and for an even deeper breakdown, Wired and CBC have detailed timelines on the entire situation so far. Visa also put out a pre-written response to complaints (via Polygon), adding that it didn't aim to "make moral judgments on legal purchases" and that it was also adhering to the letter of the law.

One of Battlefield 6's most powerful gadgets for the Assault class, the Weapon Sling, is being changed due to it "intruding upon class identity," Battlefield Studios has announced.
Battlefield 6 returns to the franchise's classic class system, and that includes class-specific gadgets that make each role feel unique. A big part of the appeal of the Assault class is its ability to bring two primary weapons into the fray using the Weapon Sling, allowing the class to easily adapt to changing situations in a firefight.
In an earlier Battlefield Labs playtest, Assault players were able to equip a second primary weapon of any type using the Weapon Sling. That translated into players using combinations like two assault rifles, an assault rifle and a sniper rifle, and more.

Microsoft has been bringing more of its Xbox games to PlayStation 5, but one major title still missing from the list is Bethesda's Starfield. For PS5 players that were hoping to play Starfield on the console this year, that won't be happening just yet.
However, that may change next spring, a new rumor suggests. According to MP1st, sources familiar with the situation indicate that Starfield won't be released on PS5 in 2025. One of the reasons is the lower-than-expected performance of its first expansion, Shattered Space. Microsoft is now looking at a Spring 2026 release for the PS5 version, possibly alongside the game's second expansion and a set of quality-of-life improvements.
Although it hasn't been officially announced for PS5 yet, Microsoft's recent push toward releasing more games on multiple platforms suggests it's only a matter of time. The company has made it clear that it's open to expanding its reach, so Starfield coming to PS5 seems inevitable--even if the exact timing is still uncertain.

When deciding on Battlefield 6's release date, EA executive Laura Miele said it was important to give the game room to breathe to help ensure it doesn't launch near the "blast radius" of other big games.
Speaking to Variety, Miele didn't mention a game by name, but she is likely referring to big games like Grand Theft Auto 6 and Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. Miele said EA tried to "not get distracted by what was happening around us," but at the same time, the company did purposefully plan to avoid other major releases.
"We always said that with all of this investment and with all the potential of this franchise, we would not have put it in harm's way, and we would not have put it out in the blast radius of something really large," she said. "We were pretty unblinking, and we weren't allowing ourselves to play the, 'What if?' game with the schedules and development. We were like, 'No, we have to get this done,' because the opportunity is so big and the potential is so significant for the company."

In 2018, Facepunch Studios' Rust forced players to decide just how far they were willing to go to ensure the survival of their characters in a harsh environment. In this game, players can prey on each other for critical supplies. And now, the franchise is heading to a new frontier with Rust Mobile, which will officially debut at Gamescom 2025 from August 20-24 for the title's first hands-on experience. An announcement trailer for Rust Mobile has also been released, which you can see below.
Level Infinite developed Rust Mobile, which adds a few new touches to its PC predecessor. Players can explore "a real-time, fully immersive world" where they have to fend off rival players as well as the hostile wildlife that is native to the area. All of the core elements of the original game remain intact, including exploration, crafting, base-raiding, and battles to the death.
The trailer hints that players may be given warnings that their bases are under attack alongside an invitation to jump back into the game to defend what's theirs. There may also be the possibility of trust between players, but there's a far greater chance of betrayal. Players ultimately get to choose how they want to survive, and if their characters will follow any moral code.

Silent Hill F Is Gorgeous, Grotesque, And Has The Potential Be The Best Game In The Series
As I sat down for the first of many discussions with the Silent Hill f team during my trip to Konami's Tokyo headquarters, longtime series composter Akira Yamaoka mentioned there was one philosophy in particular that guided his work on the upcoming title: wabi-sabi. Though I certainly won't claim to be the best person to succinctly summarize this ideology, as I have always understood it, wabi-sabi is about finding beauty in the transient nature of life--in imperfection, impermanence, aging, and even decay. According to Yamaoka, capturing "the feeling of the passing of time" was something he strived to do with his music; based on the time I spent with the game and music I encountered I think he succeeded. But more than that, Yamaoka made me realize just why Silent Hill f was so affecting, and why I can't stop thinking about the time I spent playing it two weeks later.
In Silent Hill f, beauty and decay are interwoven; flowers melt flesh; clotted rot devours once-proud structures. And yet, all of this grotesquerie is gorgeous, both visually and in the sense of somber it stirs. I was moved by Silent Hill f's visuals and the sheer artistry on display. But beyond that, I was also moved by how the series' signature examination of the human mind--which in this case, honed in on the psyche of a young teenage girl being violently thrust towards womanhood--brought me back to my own adolescence; to a time I'll never again return to and was as isolating and horrifying as it was precious and fundamental. To a part of me that, in a sense, has decayed. Not every game can invoke such a response, especially in just under six hours, and yet, Silent Hill f did.
I walked away both enamored and impressed by the time I spent with Silent Hill f. Despite the success of Silent Hill 2's remake last year, it's safe to say there was still some speculation as to if the series was truly "back." I'd now go so far as to say it's not only back, it's stronger than ever, and that Silent Hill f has the potential to be the best game in the series.

"To the Day We Die:" Battlefield 6 Devs Talk Anti-Cheat
Seemingly no competitive video game is safe from the scourge of cheating, and the developers of Battlefield 6 are well aware of this. EA revealed the multiplayer gameplay trailer for its upcoming first-person shooter this week, and developer Battlefield Studios also confirmed that the game will launch with Javelin Anti-Cheat on PC.
This is a kernel-level anti-cheat program that will run in the background of Battlefield 6--and its upcoming beta, according to VG247--and it's designed to actively monitor for any signs of cheating. This tech has been used in several other EA games like Madden and F1, and it's an evolved version of EA Anti-Cheat that was first introduced in Battlefield 2042.
While this anti-cheat software has proven to be particularly effective, it's not foolproof and it's only a matter of time before cheat-makers find a way around it. Respawn Entertainment CEO and Battlefield Studios head Vince Zampella acknowledged this issue, comparing it to an "arms race" as developers are constantly working on improving their anti-cheat technology while cheat-makers continue to discover exploits in games.

Finding a Switch 2 is still a struggle "in many countries," something that Nintendo wants to remedy. The company discussed the situation as part of its financial results briefing for the first quarter of fiscal 2026, which covers April through June of 2025.
Nintendo announced Switch 2 has sold over 6 million units in just seven weeks. That's a lot of consoles in a short time. As such, the company noted that "demand for Nintendo Switch 2 is exceeding supply in many countries, and we regret the inconvenience this is causing our consumers." Nintendo aims to "strengthen our production and supply systems" to address the issue.
In May, Nintendo of America president Doug Bowser believed Switch 2 supply would meet demand in the US. This was obviously weeks before the console launched but echoed Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa's thoughts that price point would be a bigger factor in early hardware sales. For comparison, Microsoft and Sony struggled with Xbox Series X and PS5 supply for almost a year after launch. However, those systems also came out in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Lego Arcade Machine (468 pieces)
Preorder at The Lego StoreLego has added to its growing lineup of video game hardware building sets with an adorable little arcade. Simply called Arcade Machine, this 468-piece set launched today, August 1, for only $40. It's one of dozens of new building sets up for grabs at the Lego Store. Unlike other gaming hardware sets in Lego's catalog, the Arcade Machine isn't themed around a real platform; this is a Lego original, but it will still clearly appeal to the same audience.
Lego Arcade Machine (468 pieces) $40 | Releases August 1The completed build measures 6 x 4 x 3 inches and opens up to reveal a game room with a sofa, a tiny arcade cabinet, a CRT TV, and numerous decorations often found in game rooms. The items on the display shelves are a nice touch. Above the couch, you can display three game console boxes and a pair of minifigure-style statues. On the other side of the room above the TV, there's a sword mounted to the wall and what we can only assume is this guy's prized Lego Star Wars starship he spent a dozen hours building.
The room belongs to the "Gamer Minifigure," who has a five o'clock and shaggy hair. The set also comes with a tiny game controller for the minifigure to hold.
The arcade machine you're building here is called Space, a vertical shoot'-em-up for two players. When closed, the red and black cabinet looks appropriately retro thanks to its chunky proportions and several stickers. The marquee sticker has those classic block letters that make it look like each letter is a spaceship entering lightspeed, and the screen sticker has pixelated graphics.
If you insert coins in the slots on the front, they will fly back out through the coin return--just like when you tried to trick arcade cabinets into accepting pennies instead of quarters.
