A Minecraft Movie Surges Past $700 Million Worldwide
A Minecraft Movie has grossed over $700 million worldwide, with about $345 million domestically and $376 million internationally. So far, the total is about $721 million.
According to Box Office Mojo, A Minecraft Movie brought in a little over $41 million this past weekend in the United States. $9.5 million came in on Sunday, a nearly 40% drop off from Saturday which brought in $15.8 million, as well as $16 million on Friday. Still, that shouldn't be too surprising considering this past Sunday was the Easter holiday.
Despite this big milestone, it's still the second-highest-grossing video game movie ever, continuing to sit behind The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which grossed over $1.3 billion. A Minecraft Movie still has a little more than halfway to go if it wants to catch up.

Bungie has announced that it has updated one of the guidelines for Marathon's upcoming closed alpha test. Bungie is removing the NDA from the alpha and players will be able to talk about their experiences with it when it begins on April 23 to when it ends on May 4.
"As developers we believe community feedback and dialog is essential to make the best version of Marathon. Up until now, this feedback has come from closed playtest sessions," Bungie said in a statement. "In the spirit of building towards that future, we've decided to remove the NDA from our Closed Alpha Test. Everyone can share their thoughts, feedback, and footage, including streaming starting on April 23."
Bungie added that the studio is most interested in hearing feedback surrounding Marathon's gunplay, weapons, maps, runners, early-game progression, PvP engagements against other players, and PvE engagements against AI. As this isn't the full game, Bungie also clarified that the alpha will not include aspects such as final visuals, a polished user interface, a complete narrative, and ranked play.

In the newest episode of HBO's The Last of Us, Joel (Pedro Pascal) is brutally and slowly beaten to death with a golf club by Abby (Kaitlyn Dever). This also happened in The Last of Us: Part II the game, of course, so many viewers of the TV series were wondering when during Season 2 it would happen. Now that it has happened, Pascal, along with showrunners and writers Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, have discussed the momentous event in great detail.
To begin with, Druckmann told Variety that the team debated when during Season 2 to have Abby kill Joel, and it was ultimately decided to do it in Episode 2 to help the story move along.
"Even in the game, there's like an hour or something before you get to this moment. But we also knew it needed to be early enough, because this is the inciting incident for this story," he said. "So yes, we always pick every permutation, but the later it got in the season, it just felt we were kind of dragging our feet instead of just getting to the meat of what the story is about."

Compared to previous Nintendo gaming console launches, the Switch 2 is arriving with a very small selection of first-party games. A new 3D Mario game was expected to be revealed during the big April Nintendo Direct, but that never materialized. For now, Nintendo's favorite plumber will kick off the Switch 2 era in Mario Kart World instead. When can fans expect Mario to leap back into action? Nintendo remains tight-lipped on the future of its mascot, but it is teasing some news in the future.
"Stay tuned," Nintendo of America president Doug Bowser said to CNN. "You know, we have a long, long catalog, and a long list of (intellectual property) that I'm sure will make its way to the platform."
While Bowser's brief response could hint at something happening in the future, it's anyone's guess how long the wait will be for a new Mario 3D game. It has been eight years since Super Mario Odyssey arrived on the Switch, and since then, we've seen Mario in remasters of Wii U classics, spin-off games, remakes, and the well-received Super Mario Bros. Wonder 2.5D platformer game.

Since HBO's The Last of Us premiered two years ago, fans of the series have been nervously awaiting a particular harrowing scene from The Last of Us Part 2, which was released five years ago. As viewers watched last night's episode, everything played out very similarly to the game--with minor changes to the overall narrative--and the show will never be the same again. Episode 3 ignites a path of revenge.
Spoiler warning: If you haven't seen the episode or played the game, last chance before we dive in.
On last week's episode, we learned that there was another fringe group, similar to the Fireflies from Season 1, that wanted to find Joel (Pedro Pascal) and kill him. Led by a young woman named Abby (Kaitlyn Dever), the group tries to infiltrate the Jackson settlement, but when a plan goes awry, Abby finds herself being saved by Joel. She leads him and Dina (Isabela Merced) to the group's holed-up lair. There, Joel is executed, but not before Abby explains why he had to suffer. All the while, Ellie (Bella Ramsey) has to watch the finishing blow.

From new movies to video games, there's a whole lot of Star Wars to look forward to in the future, and naturally, even more collectibles are on the way. You won't have to wait too long to get your hands on them either, as Hasbro has revealed a trio figures joining its high-end Star Wars: The Black Series based on characters from the recent Star Wars Jedi: Survivor game--including a new figure of protagonist Cal Kestis that comes with multiple swappable head options--including one where he's rocking a mullet and handlebar mustache--and two versions of the Night Sister Merrin. All three figures launch August 1 and are available to preorder now.
Star Wars: The Black Series - Cal Kestis, BD-1, Turgle, and Skoova Stev $45 | Releases August 1Exclusive to Amazon, this pack of figures bundles Kestis, Turgle, BD-1, and Skoova Stev together. Priced at $45, it'll be released on August 1, and it comes with a wide range of accessories for the characters. If you're not fond of the handlebar mustache and mullet that Kestis is rocking, you can swap it out for an alternate head that trims back his hair by a significant amount. Kestis also comes with several lightsaber hilts--this will allow you to pose him in single, dual, or double-bladed lightsaber stances--and energy blades to attach to them. You can also have him hold a blaster in his hand or equip it in his holster.
The other great character here is Turgle, who was introduced in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. Basically a giant frog-man voiced by Helluva Boss's Richard Horvitz in the game, Turgle has articulated arms and legs, a vibrant paint job, and he's packing heat with his sci-fi sidearm. Master fisherman Skoova Stev and BD-1 round out this pack, as these are smaller--but articulated--companion figures you can pose alongside Kestis and Turgle.
If you want to round out your collection of Star Wars Jedi figures, you can check the list below for more Cal Kestis toys. You can grab one where he's disguised as an Imperial security officer, another one sees him dressed up in his default outfit from his last video game appearance, and you can return to the first game in the series with his original look. Finally, you can pick up an Amazon-exclusive three-pack of figures that reimagines Kestis as a member of the Empire's Jedi-hunting Inquisitorius group and teams him up with the Second Sister and a Purge Trooper.
- Star Wars: The Black Series - Cal Kestis, BD-1, Turgle, and Skoova Stev -- $45 | Releases August 1

- Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Cal Kestis and BD-1 -- $13 ($15)
- Cal Kestis (Imperial officer disguise) -- $17
- Star Wars Gaming Greats: Cal Kestis, Second Sister, and Purge Trooper -- $70
The next character from Star Wars Jedi: Survivor that you can pick up is Merrin, everyone's favorite Nightsister. Like Kestis, she's one of the few survivors of an ancient order that the Empire wiped out, and her action figure captures her updated look after she has spent some time exploring the galaxy. Her six-inch figure has plenty of articulation, and for accessories, she comes with a dagger, magical attack effects, and a spear.
Preorder at Amazon Star Wars: The Vintage Collection - Nightsister Merrin $17 | Releases August 1If you'd prefer to carry a pocket-sized version of Merrin around, you can also pick up a 3.75-inch action figure from the Vintage Collection. Like the larger one above, she's dressed in her Jedi Survivor clothing, and she comes with a staff, a dagger, and an alternate hand with magic effects.

There's still a lot we don't know about the next Battlefield game, but it looks like old-school destructible environments are making a comeback. Developer DICE shared an early look at the upcoming game's destructive capabilities with a brief video from a pre-alpha build in which a player brings down the side of a building. That allows the player to quickly enter the now wide-open structure.
We’re back with another Battlefield Labs Community Update focused on destruction! Check out an early pre-alpha example of destruction that showcases the ability to destroy a wall to quickly traverse through the building. Read the full article now! #Battlefield pic.twitter.com/bgDcPgZRbg
— Battlefield (@Battlefield) April 18, 2025DICE also shared a lengthy explanation about how it plans to implement destructive elements into the game. The team's stated goal is to give players the ability to "reshape the environment and transform your surroundings toward a tactical advantage." The article notes that there will be visual and audio cues that let players know which environments can be destroyed. And while the demonstration only took down part of a building, it will be possible to "[take] down a building to take out an attacking squad."
Buildings and objects won't necessarily break immediately. Instead, they will "visually degrade" while taking persistent damage before starting to break down. Rubble from the destruction won't disappear from the battlefield, and players can even use it for cover during firefights.

Star Wars: Zero Company will feature a varied roster of characters as part of the main squad, including a Mandalorian, Jedi Padawan, and an astromech droid--but for the main protagonist of Hawks, players will be free to customize that operative. Speaking to GameSpot, Bit Reactor creative director Greg Foertsch revealed that players will have a selection of options to help fine-tune the look of Hawks, ranging from gender and voice through to their species in the Star Wars galaxy.
"You can live through that character however you want," Foertsch said. "If you want to change the species, you can. If you want to change their voice, you can."
The driving theme behind Hawks will be their origin story as a former Republic officer and how they're forced to assemble a motley crew to take on a dangerous adversary while the Clone Wars rage on in the background. While Hawks has been designed to have just enough of a personality for players to imprint themselves on, Zero Company's roster of "authored characters" will all have their own distinct backstories and personalities that players will discover as they progress through the game. One of these allies is Tell, a Jedi Padawan on a quest to finish her fallen master's final mission, and there'll also be some friction between the rest of the crew due to natural rivalries and animosity.

Star Wars video games have primarily focused on action for several years now, but Star Wars: Zero Company breaks from that trend by throwing players into the battlefields of a single-player tactics game. The genre remains fairly popular thanks to games like XCOM, Gears Tactics, and Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate - Daemonhunters, but there's still a perceived barrier to entry in a genre that doesn't hesitate to throw a lot of gameplay mechanics at its audience.
Developer Bit Reactor is looking to avoid this issue with Zero Company, as the studio is aiming to create a Star Wars adventure that is both approachable and appealing to hardcore fans of the genre. Speaking to GameSpot, Bit Reactor creative director Greg Foertsch explained how Zero Company will organically teach players its systems as they delve deeper into the murky underbelly of the Clone Wars.
"I think that when you look at these games--in general--a lot of times the mechanics can overwhelm and you tack the story on later. By using the story to guide us, it doesn't shut down doors, it open doors. "And it's not just about what we want people to play, but also what we want them to feel. And so through camera work, presentation, and story, I think we're able to hit a lot of notes and really make this game appeal in a different way and kind of innovate in a way that the other games in the space haven't. I think we're really focused on trying to like marry those two aspects of it, the immersion and the presentation level with the mechanics."
Continue Reading at GameSpotHow Star Wars: Zero Company Aims To Replicate The Gritty Wartime Feel Of Rogue One And The Clone Wars
After an official reveal at Star Wars Celebration Japan, new details on Star Wars: Zero Company have been revealed. One of the interesting things about the game is its setting, as the events of Zero Company will unfold during the Clone Wars. While the galactic civil war has been explored in detail, Zero Company will focus on the hidden stories of that conflict and the covert operations that took place. Thematically, the game draws upon Star Wars stories like the Clone Wars animated series, Rogue One, and its prequel series Andor, as well as classic World War II movies like the Dirty Dozen.
"The Clone Wars offers us a lot of the tools we need mechanically for the game, which is great," Bit Reactor creative director Greg Foertsch explained in an interview with GameSpot. "But it's also interesting, we haven't seen that kind of zoom level in the Clone Wars, and so it's a pretty unique spot to land that also offered a lot of great options for us from a game design perspective, to tell a really great story with some great mechanics added to it. That really opened the door for us to do a lot of things."
LucasFilm Games producers Orion Kellogg and Kelsey Sharpe added that the Clone Wars era allowed for "all sorts of places in that zone" where original stories could be told. The nuanced storytelling of the Clone Wars was a big influence on Zero Company, alongside the boots-on-the-ground atmosphere of Rogue One. Films like the Dirty Dozen also inspired the idea of how the Zero Company squad comes together, but as Sharpe noted, the first Star Wars film still stands as the guiding light for the game.

After being teased earlier this week, Star Wars: Zero Company was officially revealed at Star Wars Celebration Japan on Saturday. The cinematic trailer for the game introduced the primary cast of Zero Company: a group of covert specialists who players will control in this turn-based tactics game. Developed by Bit Reactor in collaboration with Respawn Entertainment and Lucasfilm Games, Star Wars: Zero Company will launch for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S in 2026.
Set during the twilight of the Clone Wars, players will step into the shoes of former Republic officer Hawks, who leads a motley crew of specialists behind enemy lines. Some of the characters here include a Clonetrooper, a Jedi Knight, and a Mandalorian, all of whom are original characters created for the game. Bit Reactor says that players will embark on a campaign of tactical operations and investigations in Zero Company, and between missions, they can develop a base of operations and gather intelligence through their network of informants.

Solo Leveling is an action-fantasy anime based on the Korean manhwa series and light novel series of the same name. It's set in a fictional version of our world where inter-dimensional monsters invade Earth through mysterious portals that connect to dangerous dungeons, and these creatures can only be stopped by super-powered humans called Hunters. Hunters are divided into ranks, ranging from lowly E-class fighters and up to the elite S-class combatants who wield terrifying powers. The catch here is that a class cannot be improved upon, so if someone were to awaken as an E-class, they'd be stuck at that ranking for the rest of their life.

Remember the '90s? Epic Games sure does, and the company channeled that totally radical decade with a new ad promoting the new Slurp Rush map for Fortnite Reload. Featuring the talents of Eric Andre and Kyle Mooney, the ad is an homage to those commercials from the 1990s that were trying to sell disgusting sugary beverages and snacks to kids.
The defunct soft drink Surge, which was advertised in the late '90s with the tagline "Feed the Rush," is a specific target of parody here, but this type of ad was very common throughout that whole decade for pretty much anything that was aimed at kids, including those sugar-filled drinks and candy (like Gushers), as well as toys.
The reason for this ad's existence is to promote Fortnite's Reload mode, a battle royale mode which allows players to respawn automatically as long as one member of their team is alive, and takes place on relatively small islands that are based on past chapters of the main Fortnite battle royale. Earlier this week, Reload launched its third map, Slurp Rush, which is based on the Chapter 2 island. To celebrate the launch, Slurp Rush is the only Reload map you can play on right now, but after this period of exclusivity ends it will rotate every half-hour along with the existing two maps.
