Oblivion Remaster Without DRM? GOG Wants It To Happen
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered was released by surprise on April 22, and it's available on PC via Steam. But the game is not available on the popular DRM-free store, GOG.
In a social media post, GOG congratulated Bethesda on the game's launch, and said, "We'd love to have this beauty on our platform so you can grab it DRM-free and keep it yours forever."
GOG added Oblivion Remastered to the "GOG Dreamlist," which is a collection of games not available yet on GOG. Users can vote for Oblivion Remastered to come to GOG on the page, and submit stories and comments about why they think it should. More than 1,300 people have signed the petition so far.

Stonemaier Games, the US-based company behind Wingspan and other popular board games, has announced today on its blog that it will be suing the Trump administration over tariffs. The company will be joining many others in a larger lawsuit targeting the tariffs, which Stonemaier Games says will cost it almost $1.5 million in additional payments.
With a tariff on Chinese imports of 145%, Stonemaier is facing an extra $14.50 tariff on every $10 it has spent on manufacturing games with its partner in China--most of them print runs that were ordered before Trump took office. With a new game, Vantage, set to launch in the upcoming months, Stonemaier is in a tough position.
The company has laid out its plans for handling the tariffs, including shipping directly from China to other countries, with sales outside the US making up 35% of its business. Stock destined for the US market will be stored in China for now, in the hope that tariffs will be decreased before it has to be shipped, though where games are out of stock Stonemaier has opted to import as usual and "eat most of the tariff cost (which more than doubles [its] costs) to minimize the impact on distributors, retailers, and consumers."

Horror co-op game REPO is the latest surprise hit to take Steam by storm, leaving its small team scrambling to keep up with player interest. The studio behind REPO, Semiwork, is working on the game's first update, and has just shared more details on what the major update will add--including a much-requested matchmaking system.
"The first update will include the long-awaited matchmaking, with server password, region picker, server list, and kick option," developer Pontus said in a Q&A video shared by Semiwork, as picked up by GamesRadar. The upcoming update will also add a new level, which will come with a handful of new valuables, some with surprising gimmicks and effects triggered when players pick them up. The update will also bring new weapons, along with a new mechanic called Overcharge designed for a "more interesting late-game experience."
Also coming in the first update are expressions: essentially emotes that players can use to better communicate with each other in the co-op game. The Q&A video shows off a few including angry, sad, unimpressed, and "very much unimpressed"--though its not clear if those are the exact expressions arriving with the first patch.

In a blog post, Sucker Punch revealed more about Ghost of Yotei's plot, which revolves around the protagonist Atsu hunting down the Yotei Six, a gang of outlaws who murdered her family. Armed with the same katana used to pin her to a burning tree, Atsu's story will see her explore Ezo and find new allies in her quest for revenge.
Sony also revealed the various editions for the game that will be available to preorder starting May 2. All preorders will come with several bonuses, including a unique in-game mask for Atsu to wear and a set of seven PSN avatars featuring concept art of Atsu and each member of the Yotei Six.

Lately, the world feels pretty bleak.
I spend a lot of energy these days just telling myself that, in many ways, this is the best the collective human race has ever had it. I try my hardest to muster up some semblance of gratitude, for self-preservation if nothing else. People who are far wiser and more well-adjusted than myself will tell you that being buried in overwhelming dread is exactly what the powers that be want; that maintaining a sense of joy is vital during times like these. In my experience, they're absolutely right. As such, I've tried my hardest to remain uncompromising when it comes to living a life still sprinkled with joy--after all, who would be inclined to live and fight for misery?
I try to spend as much time as possible around loved ones and touch plenty of grass, but admittedly, an element in my attempts to enjoy life and process all of this has been video games. This probably isn't a surprising or novel claim. If you're reading this, there's a good chance you're a gamer and are very familiar with the healing power and delightful escapism associated with games. Recently, Reuters published a study regarding the positive impact that cozy games such as Animal Crossing or Stardew Valley can have on mental health. According to the study, there is essentially "no statistically significant difference between playing a video game and engaging in meditation." I love this fact, mostly because it makes me feel a bit less guilty when my husband catches me playing Fields of Mistria at 11 o'clock at night.

Nintendo issued a subpoena request to a California court that, if approved, would require Discord to provide Nintendo the identity of the Pokemon Teraleaker. "Teraleak" is the moniker Pokemon fans gave to the massive leak from October 2024 that reportedly included not just information about Game Freak and The Pokemon Company's upcoming projects, such as Pokemon Legends: Z-A, but personal information about Game Freak employees as well. The leak also included data from past Pokemon games, including concept art and scrapped designs.
Nintendo owns approximately 33 percent of Pokemon, with Game Freak and The Pokemon Company owning the other two-thirds.
Polygon obtained a copy of Nintendo's court filing, which shows the company requested the leaker's name, address, phone number, and email address. Nintendo also provided redacted images taken from a Discord server called FreakLeak, where the leaker, who went by GameFreakOUT on the platform, posted 1 terabyte of information taken from Game Freak's internal servers. The image Nintendo provided in the court filing showed GameFreakOUT posting a file containing the leaked data and a message telling the group's members to "Enjoy."

Although The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered overlaps with the fan-made remake mod Skyblivion, Bethesda still acknowledged the modders' efforts by giving them code for the new remaster.

As massive fans, we're beyond grateful for the generous gift of Oblivion Remastered game keys for our entire modding team! This means so much to us. Thank you for everything, @bethesda. pic.twitter.com/vLsuzhdgkX
Skyblivion is an upcoming project by the modding group TESRenewal. Its goal is to remake the 2006 RPG The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion entirely within The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim's game engine. It's an impressive effort that has been in the works for several years. In February, TESRenewal suggested that it could be released this year. Shortly thereafter, rumors of an official Oblivion remaster and remake began to swirl.
As it became clear that The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered was real and launching soon, Skyblivion Project Lead Rebelzize said, "for the community it's a win-win as you get twice the amount of Oblivion this year," of the situation. Earlier today, Bethesda and Virtuos officially announced and released The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. Rather than issuing a cease and desist for Skyblivion, Bethesda acknowledged the team's work and provided the members of TESRenewal with free codes for the remaster.

The last few years have seen a resurgence in appreciation for Columbo, and if you're looking to catch up with Peter Falk's charming detective, the most recent release collecting Columbo's revival is on sale for only $42 (was $100) at Amazon. This is a limited-time deal with a fixed number of copies available, so it probably won't be up grabs at this price for long. Unfortunately, the original seven-season arc is roughly twice the price right now ($82), but this is still a good opportunity to get Columbo: The Return for a great price.
- Columbo: The Return Box Set (12 discs) -- $42 ($100)
- Columbo: The 1970s Box Set (20 discs) -- $82
Released on Blu-ray in late 2023, Columbo's original seven-season run retailed for $150 when it was first announced, but these days it's often available for $75-$85 (like now). Meanwhile, Columbo: The Return, which released on Blu-ray last July, carries a retail price of $100.

Bethesda finally revealed and launched The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, one of the games industry's worst-kept secrets for months, and caused a few ripples in the mod community by publishing a post that said Oblivion Remastered mods aren't supported. That's a slightly vague statement, as it only means that Bethesda has no plans to develop and support an official Oblivion Remastered creation kit like the studio did for Skyrim or some of its other games.
However, Oblivion Remastered still allows for mods, even without a creation kit. You can download and run Oblivion mods or try to make your own without any kind of penalty or fear of a ban. The game just might not run properly, hence Bethesda recommending players disable mods if their game crashes for no other discernible reason.
Whatever issues may or may not be present with early mods, the Oblivion Remastered mod scene is already lighting up. NexusMods has a handful of creations, including one that restores the color shading from Oblivion's original release, one to turn the desktop icon into the Adoring Fan, and one that makes a longsword deal 10,000 damage, because why not. Early downloaders have also reported no issues getting these mods to work, and that may be due to how Bethesda and Virtuous made Oblivion Remastered. It's a hybrid of sorts, one that's built in Unreal Engine 5, but that still runs on the original Oblivion engine.
Continue Reading at GameSpotThe Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered's Adoring Fan, Explained
Earlier today, fans of The Elder Scrolls were delighted not only to officially learn of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered's existence, but also that the game is available now on consoles and PC. However, those who watched the Bethesda livestream who aren't familiar with Cyrodiil and its inhabitants may have had a question: Who the heck was that Adoring Fan?
In Oblivion, the Adoring Fan is a commoner who lives in the Imperial City and lavishes praise on you once they become the Grand Champion in the Arena. He's technically a "Follower" in that he'll follow you around the world, but unlike other Followers, his contribution to combat is to run and hide from enemies--which sometimes attracts more in the process.
The Adoring FanThe Adoring Fan has gained notoriety in the Elder Scrolls community due to his zealous devotion to following the player around, which can lead to some hilarious situations--if you tell him to leave you alone while standing on top of a mountain, for example, the Fan heads back to the Imperial City via the most direct route possible. He's so notorious, in fact, that Bethesda created a successor to the Adoring Fan in Starfield, though the spacefaring version can only be recruited if you choose the "Hero Worshipped" trait.

An open-world RPG based on Robert Jordan's 14-book fantasy series The Wheel of Time is in the works, 20 years after Red Eagle Entertainment, now rebranded as iwot Studios, acquired the rights to make games based on the series.
Variety reports the game will be a "AAA open-world role-playing game" developed wholly in-house by iwot Studios, led by former Warner Bros. Games VP of product development Craig Alexander. The studio is projecting a three-year development cycle for the game, which is slated to release on consoles and PC.
It's part of the studio's plan to expand The Wheel of Time across film, television, and gaming, which it also owns the rights to. Dev iwot Studios has already served as a producer on Amazon's Wheel of Time TV series, as well as on an upcoming film called Age of Legends and a 3D-animated Wheel of Time film currently in development. CEO Rick Selvage told Variety that there will be synergy between upcoming film projects and the game, but that the game would cover the entirety of Jordan's world.

Bethesda announced The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered today, and instead of asking fans to wait weeks or months to play it, the game was made available alongside the announcement.
On PC, the release is doing huge numbers right out of the gate. The game has climbed above 115,000 concurrent players just hours after it debuted around 8 AM PT / 11 AM ET today, April 22. It's also Steam's No. 1 top-selling game right now.
Oblivion Remastered is also available on Xbox Series X|S and PS5, so the success on Steam represents just a portion of the game's total audience. Steam publishes concurrent player figures, but Microsoft and Sony do not, so we don't have comparable data on console.
Continue Reading at GameSpotOblivion Remastered Couldn't Come At A Worse Time For Some Games
It's been a long time coming. Bethesda and Microsoft finally unveiled the long-awaited and rumored Oblivion Remastered today, and as an added surprise, they released it right alongside the announcement, a practice colloquially known as a shadow drop. Starting today you can purchase the lovely remastered version of an all-time classic RPG on PC, PlayStation 5, or Xbox Series X|S, or play it through your Game Pass subscription. It's exciting news for fans of the series, but it raises the question: Why now?
The timing is troublesome for other games, most pointedly Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. The debut from new studio Sandfall Games has gotten some glowing preview coverage, but now it risks being overshadowed by Oblivion. After all, it is also a massive RPG, it's also launching at $50, and it's coming out in just two days, on April 24. That's some heavy overlap for competing games launching so closely, even without accounting for the power of the Elder Scrolls brand. Clair Obscur has gotten positive buzz, but it's not exactly a household name.
Perhaps most confusingly, Clair Obscur is also coming to Game Pass, which reads as a nice vote of confidence in the debut game and is a big get for Game Pass itself. Microsoft has been maintaining its promise to release new first-party games on Game Pass, but its third-party offerings have been less consistent. In recent months, the library has increasingly consisted of independent games, with the occasional rotation of bigger franchises like Grand Theft Auto. Expedition 33 looked to be an exciting new RPG with real franchise potential, and Microsoft was preparing to get in on the ground floor.
