It's a great time to be a fighting game fan, as between the release of Street Fighter 6 this month, Mortal Kombat 1 in September, and Tekken 8 in the near-future, there's no shortage of digital fisticuffs to be had. With all of those high-profile titles on the way, Razer is throwing its hat into the ring and has revealed its new fight stick, the Razer Kitsune for PC and PS5.

Razer Kitsune Chun-Li EditionGallery

Indiana Jones vs. Han Solo: Who Would Win In a Fight? Harrison Ford Does Not Care

Fri, 06/02/2023 - 02:13

Actor Harrison Ford is known for playing the action heroes Han Solo from Star Wars and Indiana Jones from the Indiana Jones series. But which character would win in a fight? Ford said in an interview with Esquire that Star Wars fans ask him this question a lot.

We will likely never know the answer, and Ford doesn't care anyway.

"Well, they usually ask me, 'If there was a fight between Han Solo and Indiana Jones, who would f**kin' win?'" he said. "And I say [voice rising, fingers drumming], 'Me, asshole! I don't want to f**king make sh** up like that. I mean, what are you asking me that crap for?'"

Harrison Ford Told Indiana Jones 5 Stunt Performers To "Leave Me The F**K Alone" For One Scene

Fri, 06/02/2023 - 02:12

At the age of 80, Harrison Ford still wants to do some of his own stunts. He rejected the help of stunt performers for one particular scene in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.

The movie opens with Ford's Indiana Jones riding a horse through Manhattan. When he finished the scene, he was immediately approached by people who wanted to help him get down off the horse--but Ford thought he should do it himself to make it look more believable for a person of his age.

"I thought, 'What the f**k?' Like I was being attacked by gropers," he told Esquire. "I look down and there's three stunt guys there making sure I didn't fall off the stirrup. They said, 'Oh, we were just afraid because we thought, you know, and bah bah bah bah.' And I said, 'Leave me the f**k alone, I'm an old man... Leave me alone, I'm an old man getting off a horse and I want it to look like that!"

Reddit Is Cracking Down On Third-Party Apps With Steep Price Increases

Fri, 06/02/2023 - 01:40

Reddit is one of the most popular social media sites out there, especially in the gaming community, but it seems that its management really wants you to use its official mobile app. Recently, the creator of the popular app Apollo revealed that Reddit is increasing the price of the backend access that these third-party alternatives need to survive, and it could wipe them out.

As noted in that thread, Apollo's creator says that Reddit's proposed cost of $12,000 per 50 million API requests would essentially kill the app overnight. These requests are how the app obtains information from Reddit, and are thus necessary to its function. The creator says that the app made 7 billion requests last month, which means that they would have to pay $1.7 million a month to Reddit to keep the app running, which is far less than what it makes. This essentially means that if these changes happen, these apps will have to dramatically increase their costs to customers or cease to exist altogether.

The developer of the popular Android app RIF backs up the Apollo dev, stating that its costs would be "in the same ballpark." However, that developer also claims that Reddit may plan to remove sexually-explicit ("not safe for work") content from these third-party apps while keeping access to that content in the official app. The developer then concludes that this is part of an effort by Reddit's management to essentially kill these third-party apps.

The Best Fight Sticks For Every Budget In 2023

Fri, 06/02/2023 - 00:44

It's a big year for fighting games thanks to Street Fighter 6 and Mortal Kombat 1. Hardcore fighting game fans will be the first to tell you that the purest way to experience the genre of one-on-one combat is with an arcade-inspired fight stick. There's a good reason for that, as the majority of modern fighting games still have gameplay mechanics within them that are inherited from the days when titles such as Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, and Killer Instinct ruled the arcades.

There's something that's undeniably satisfying about having a peripheral that contains a large joystick, massive face buttons, and space to store a few quarters on so that you call dibs on the next turn. Modern fight sticks also look great and boast a degree of officially endorsed customization that can make them perform even better in the competitive scene.

We've had a look at what the market has to offer in this space, so if you're looking to add some retro flavor to your gaming setup, these fight sticks will have you ready to rumble in no time. Additionally, a fourth Spider-Man movie starring Tom Holland and Zendaya remains in the works, but Pascal said the ongoing writers' strike has caused the movie to go on pause.

Bella Ramsey Talks The Last Of Us Season 2, Says It's "Darker"

Fri, 06/02/2023 - 00:34

HBO's The Last of Us is one of the network's most popular shows in recent times, and it's coming back for a second season. But when? And what's on tap for the sophomore season? Star Bella Ramsey, who plays Ellie, recently discussed Season 2 in an interview with Vanity Fair, starting off by saying the next batch of episodes are "darker."

Season 2 is a "story about revenge" and the "dangers of unconditional love." Season 2 is expected to adapt the events of The Last of Us: Part II and introduce several new characters, including Abby and Dina. Anyone who has played the game or knows the story would understand why Season 2's story would be focused around revenge.

Ramsey also discussed the phenomenon of people calling The Last of Us actor Pedro Pascal an internet "daddy." Ramsey said, "I'm worried it's gone too far."

Redfall's Rocky Development Caused Arkane To Lose 70% Of Prey's Dev Team - Report

Fri, 06/02/2023 - 00:10

Redfall is one of the biggest disappointments of 2023 so far, falling well short of the standards set by not only Xbox exclusives, but also developer Arkane's high reputation. According to a new report from Bloomberg, the project was beset with difficulties from the start, leading to roughly 70% of the company's staff that worked on Prey leaving by the end of development.

The report, which cites more than a dozen anonymous sources that worked on the game, states that the game's lack of success was not a surprise to many at the studio. The sources say that the project lacked clear direction from the start, with management offering conflicting visions for the game's overall goals--some felt that they were making Redfall's Far Cry, while others were told they were making something akin to Borderlands.

In general, the report shows that studio staff felt uneasy about working on Arkane's first multiplayer game, given that the developer was well-known for crafting high-quality immersive sims like the Dishonored series and Prey. The report estimates that roughly 70% of the staff who worked on Prey, the studio's last game, were no longer employed by Arkane Austin at the end of Redfall's development.

Gears 6 Outline Was Written But May Have Been Thrown Out, Former Coalition Boss Says

Fri, 06/02/2023 - 00:05

Gears 6 hasn't been officially announced by Microsoft, but the former head of The Coalition knows how he would have approached the game. Rod Fergusson, who now serves as general manager of the Diablo franchise, admitted he drafted up an outline for the project years ago.

Fergusson was asked on IGN's Unlocked podcast whether he knew what happened after the cliffhanger ending of Gears 5. He prefaced his answer acknowledging he has "no insider information" but touched on what he did before leaving The Coalition for the Diablo franchise back in 2020.

"I did want to make sure when I left The Coalition that I left them in a good place," Fergusson said. "So I did write the synopsis story for Gears 6. If I were to have stayed, here's the game we would have made--at least from a story perspective. Now they probably threw that out and said, 'Good luck and goodbye.' And that's fine. I definitely had where I would go with 6."

Total War: Pharaoh Hands-on Preview - War Like An Egyptian

Fri, 06/02/2023 - 00:00

A new historical Total War is an exciting prospect for the franchise. As a Warhammer fan, I've been well catered to with Total War: Warhammer 1, 2, and 3, but for those virtual generals among us who prefer history books over Games Workshop's Black Library, the pickings have been much slimmer and mostly in the form of Total War's Sagas. After a demo of some of the new elements coming to the campaign, as well as a few hours hands-on with battles, it feels as though with Total War: Pharaoh, Creative Assembly Sofia is aiming to bring the feature experimentation and development that has been traditionally delivered through its new historical titles, while also aiming to deliver a much deeper, more fleshed-out Total War experience.

The setting of the 1200 BCE New Kingdom period of ancient Egypt in the late Bronze Age was an interesting pick, as, broadly speaking, Total War is double dipping into this period of history, having previously explored the same century with Total War Saga: Troy. While some of that Troy DNA is visible and the time period feels a little like treading familiar ground, overall, Total War: Pharaoh looks like a different beast.

Pharaoh aims to showcase the most extensive empire in Egyptian history, mixing the beauty of the setting with the brutality of the Bronze Age. This combination is poised to deliver new gameplay and mechanics, while also exploring this period in depths previously unseen in the franchise.

Thu, 06/01/2023 - 23:51

Oscar-winning actor Tom Hanks has starred in some iconic and beloved films over the years, but the man himself doesn't love everything he's made. In an interview with The New Yorker, Hanks said he's just like everyone else in that he has seen movies that he hates, and he's starred in some, too.

"OK, let's admit this: We all have seen movies that we hate. I have been in some movies that I hate," Hanks said. "You have seen some of my movies and you hate them."

Hanks did not name any specific projects, so we can only guess which movies of his that he doesn't like all that much.

The Expanse: A Telltale Series Is A Love Letter To Fans Of The Franchise

Thu, 06/01/2023 - 23:00

As a massive lover of all things space, I was thrilled to finally get my hands on the first chapter of The Expanse: A Telltale Series. Telltale made its name by delivering an authentic take on The Walking Dead at a time when the franchise was at the height of its popularity. The team working on The Expanse is different from the old Telltale--the studio has partnered with Deck Nine, developers of Life is Strange: True Colors, giving The Expanse series a good chance of hitting the narrative highs it needs to. Gameplay, however, initially had me a little worried. The upcoming sci-fi adventure gives players much more physical freedom than the studio's previous offerings, allowing them to roam, run, and float through zero-g environments and explore at their leisure--a potentially daunting task from a technical perspective. Although The Expanse's enormous universe offers plenty of material for great storytelling, the game could easily become messy if not handled with care.

With fan-favorite Camina Drummer as its main character, The Expanse: A Telltale Series is already in a great position from a narrative perspective. Both studios have created immersive, stunning games over the years, but The Expanse is new territory for Telltale when it comes to both gameplay and story. The game sees a beloved character from a visually stunning sci-fi franchise with firmly established lore get a prequel to fill in her sparse backstory--a concept that certainly holds promise. After diving into the first episode of the game itself and speaking to some of its creators, it seems Telltale is thoroughly committed to telling Drummer's backstory in a way that will please fans of both the books and the television series.

"At every level of the team, everyone cares about story first," Deck Nine art director Emerson Oaks told me. "We're super focused on telling the story, respecting the characters, and making the game as good as we can within those boundaries. That's the kind of lens that [the narrative team] is looking at the game through."
