How to set up GameShare

First, the player who owns the game needs to look for the GameShare option inside the game itself, not on the Nintendo Switch home screen. Once the process is started, players who don't own the game can press the GameShare icon found at the bottom of the home screen to join GameShare. From there, choose whether the session is local or long-distance through GameChat.

As the player who is joining, choose whether the GameShare is local or through GameChat.

Players in local GameShare sessions can connect simply by selecting the A Local User option, but long-distance GameShare sessions need to be joined through GameChat. So, all players need to set up GameChat before either sharing or receiving a game long-distance. Sharing a game long-distance allows all players to play together for as long as the GameChat session lasts.

Nintendo has lagged behind with certain social features for some time, but it's looking to make improvements with big changes on the Nintendo Switch 2. The new console has a whole new way for players to communicate with friends while playing games. Here's what you need to know about GameChat on Nintendo Switch 2.

How to set up GameChat on Switch 2

A new orange GameChat icon is now at the bottom of the home screen. Press that--or the brand-new C button located on the right Joy-Con or Pro Controller--to access the GameChat features. Keep in mind that, normally, you need a Nintendo Switch Online membership to use GameChat. For now, though, Nintendo is allowing all players to use GameChat in an open-access period until March 31, 2026. That does mean, if you don't subscribe, you'll be left with a button that does nothing.

The GameChat user agreement will pop up the first time you set up. You need to consent to the terms to use the features, but you can withdraw consent whenever you want by re-entering the GameChat settings menu. You also need to provide a phone number and confirm it via text message.

Many of the updated games now play in higher resolutions on Switch 2, and some also offer improved frame rates and HDR support. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, for instance, genuinely looks like a different game at 1080p and 60fps. Super Mario Bros. Wonder, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury, and a few other great Mario platformers have also received free performance upgrades. Some of upgraded Switch games, such as Mario spin-off puzzle game Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker and Clubhouse Games, now support the Switch 2's new GameChat feature.

Nintendo still sells all of the Switch games in the list below for original MSRP on the eShop, which means you can often around 10 bucks by opting for physical copies. It's worth noting that Walmart and Amazon often have numerous store pages for each game, including imports from Europe and other regions. The Switch and Switch 2 are region-free consoles, so you can play physical copies released in other markets. We've made note of the imported editions below.

How to move games to an SD card

The Nintendo Switch 2 uses a different microSD card than the Nintendo Switch, so you first need to get a microSD Express card. The Nintendo Switch 2 console will prompt you to insert the new SD card when you're setting it up for the first time.

To insert the microSD Express card, you need to lift the stand on the back of the Nintendo Switch 2. The SD card port is located on the bottom-right side of the console, and you can press "How to insert" on the screen during this process to see the exact spot.

The Nintendo Switch 2 is out now, and it's been discovered that there are some compatibility issues with certain games from the original Switch, including Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Players have reported that in online matches consisting of players on Switch and Switch 2, and one player users a Mii Fighter, matches can break, prompting them to end immediately.

A statement on Nintendo's Japanese website confirms this and also states there is a compatibility issue pertaining to Mii Fighter thumbnails failing to save correctly. An update for these issues is planned for release "soon," IGN reported.

World of Tanks lets players engage in simulated war battles, but the real war between Russia and Ukraine has led to Lesta Games--the Russian studio behind the game--facing charges that it illegally funneled money from its title to Ukraine.

The original developer of World of Tanks is WargamingUnited, a company that withdrew from Russia and Belarus directly because of Russia's 2022 invasion of Ukraine. Wargaming has also raised money in support of Ukraine, which would be a crime under current Russian law. Lesta Games--which took over the local Russian rights for World of Tanks--has repeatedly stressed that it has no relationship with Wargaming. That wasn't enough to prevent Russia from seizing control of Lesta Games.

As reported by PC Gamer, Moscow has frozen all assets that belong to Lesta Games, and accused the company's co-founder, Malik Khatazhaev, of being part of an "extremist group" under the control of Wargaming CEO Viktor Kisly. The evidence cited in court reportedly drew upon footage of Wargaming's support for Ukraine.
