Serious Games for Hospitalized Elderly Patients

For people of all ages, the experience of being hospitalized provokes anxiety and stress. In addition to the symptoms that take an individual to the hospital, it is very common that adverse effects are caused by psychological distress. Being sensitive and emotionally instable, the patient may feel the hospital stay as a traumatic event. Elderly are particularly vulnerable and have their cognitive abilities declined after a hospital stay. This project will explore gamification to improve mental and emotional wellbeing of hospitalized elderly patients. While hospitals are an unfamiliar and intimidating environment, the use of games may have a therapeutic effect and alleviate the consequences of this stressful experience.
