A new Outriders update will start rolling out today on PC and PlayStation consoles that will re-enable cross-play between the two. Xbox players will have to wait as developer People Can Fly is "a little bit delayed" deploying the patch. As a result, cross-play between Xbox and other platforms has been disabled.
With the release of this patch, Crossplay between PlayStation and PC is now possible.
Crossplay between Xbox and PC/PlayStation has been temporarily disabled.
Crossplay between Consoles and PC will be fully restored once the Xbox patch has gone live.
There's no word on when the update will go live on Xbox consoles. The studio said it is "hoping to have this patch ready for Xbox very soon" and will provide updates once there's information to share.
Once the Xbox update goes live, People Can Fly said cross-play between consoles and PC will be "fully restored." For now, People Can Fly said the update is over 2GB on PC and roughly 600MB on PlayStation.Continue Reading at GameSpot
Netflix is making a new limited series based on the thriller The 39 Steps, and the streaming company has hired Benedict Cumberbatch to star in it, according to Deadline.
Cumberbatch will play the lead, a man who gets mixed up in a global conspiracy. The series is inspired by the 1915 novel that was adapted by Alfred Hitchcock for a movie in 1935. The new limited series will be set in the present day.
Edward Berger is set to direct The 39 Steps from a script by The Revenant's Mark L. Smith. It's a re-teaming of sorts, as Berger wrote the TV show Patrick Melrose starring Cumberbatch. Berger recently directed episodes of the Bryan Cranston TV show Your Honor.Continue Reading at GameSpot
As long as Star Wars has been around, fans have been dying to own their very own working lightsaber, and following a surprise announcement by Disney, that could soon be a reality. During a Disney Parks press event on April 8 to announce the opening date of Avengers Campus, Disney also revealed a working prototype for a lightsaber that will likely end up for sale by the company sometime in the near future.
As Disney's Parks, Experiences, and Products chairman Josh D'Amaro wrapped up the press conference, he reportedly ended his remarks by unveiling the device and simply teasing, "It's real."
No pictures were allowed to be taken of the event and Disney has yet to publicly release anything about the device. However, Walt Disney Imagineering's portfolio creative executive Scott Trowbridge has confirmed that it exists and hinted that photos and video will eventually be released.Continue Reading at GameSpot
Plants vs Zombies 2 wasn't what a lot of fans expected out of a sequel to the classic strategy game, as it was rife with microtransactions that many players said felt like hitting a free-to-play wall. The original producer of the game, Matt Johnston, has opened up about what was going on behind the scenes as those decisions were being made.
In an interview with MinnMax, Johnston said that the seed of microtransactions in Plants vs Zombies 2 was part of its original design, with the idea of plant food. This was intended to be a leg up for players who were struggling, as a way to overcome a particular obstacle. In the midst of development, though, his team was suddenly asked to make a slice of the game playable for upper management, for reasons he didn't know at the time. And while the team made the demo, it's at this point that he first expressed some reservations about following a F2P model.
"We don't think that's possible without breaking the game," Johnston explained. "The game is this interwoven, meticulously hand-balanced set of interdependent components. Every plant has a zombie that it depends on for that balance. Making sure that that whole thing is woven together in that perfect lineage and that perfect experience was just a magic trick that you can't mess with."Continue Reading at GameSpot

For many, Hot Wheels was a cornerstone of childhood entertainment. Racing a set of micro-cars on bright-orange tracks, painstakingly pieced together into what you thought would make for a cool layout at the moment, offered a lot of amusement. The upcoming Hot Wheels Unleashed from developer Milestone looks to rekindle that same sense of fun and excitement with a full-fledged racing game, and now it's more true to the Hot Wheels experience we imagined as kids.
I recently got to go hands-on with a pre-alpha build of Hot Wheels Unleashed, racing across a set of constructed tracks with vehicles that pay homage to old-school and modern cars from across the entire Hot Wheels toy franchise.
Playing Hot Wheels Unleashed felt like I was getting reacquainted with the same excitement I felt when playing Hot Wheels as a kid. Some of the available vehicles in the pre-alpha included throwbacks to the '70s Rodger Dodger muscle car and the Dragon Blaster from the recent Color Shifters line of collectibles. In the final game, there will be more than 60 vehicles to collect and take for a spin. I found it fun to take the '90s Twin Mill for a ride, which was a favorite of mine back in the day. There's an undeniable sense of nostalgia in Hot Wheels Unleashed, and the game certainly leans into that when it comes to reimagining the micro-racing vehicles as high-octane speed machines competing in races on the iconic bright-orange tracks.Continue Reading at GameSpot
Paramount has announced it will release a new Star Trek movie in 2023. What is the movie? We don't know and Paramount hasn't said yet, but the film studio apparently feels confident enough about it to put the untitled and unannounced film on its release calendar.
This movie, whatever it turns out to be, will be released on June 9, 2023.
JJ Abrams rebooted the Star Trek film series in 2009 in a well-received, commercially successful film that starred Chris Pine as Captain Kirk and Zachary Quinto as Spock. Sequels Into Darkness and Beyond released in 2013 and 2016.Continue Reading at GameSpot
The releases of Top Gun: Maverick and Mission Impossible 7 have been delayed. According to Deadline, the Top Gun sequel will now hit theaters on November 17, 2021, while the next Mission Impossible movie will arrive on May 27, 2022, which is Memorial Day weekend in the United States.
Both of these high profile Tom Cruise films are distributed by Paramount. Top Gun: Maverick was previously set to arrive on July 2, having been delayed several times prior to that. Production on the movie was completed in June 2019 and the first trailer was released at San Diego Comic-Con the following month.
The currently-untitled Mission Impossible 7 was originally set to arrive in July this year, before being pushed to the November date that Top Gun: Maverick now occupies. The movie recently finished production. The initial plan was for MI7 to shoot back-to-back with MI8, but in February, it was reported that Cruise's promotional duties for Top Gun: Maverick meant that this was no longer happening.Continue Reading at GameSpot
A new gameplay trailer for the upcoming open-world MMO survival game The Day Before has arrived, and it's giving off some major The Last of Us vibes. The game is set in a post-pandemic America where zombies are a constant danger and the remaining humans are fighting to control what precious few resources remain.
The 13-minute gameplay trailer from IGN provides the best look at the game yet. We see a player driving down a muddy road in an SUV who pulls into a dilapidated gas station to collect resources. Zombies show up and the player mows them down with an assault rifle and a pistol.
The trailer also shows off the game's crafting system and some of the attention to detail in the environments. There is also a particularly tense encounter where the player tries to turn off a house alarm... but it doesn't go so well.Continue Reading at GameSpot
Now you can spend more than a PS5 or Xbox Series X on an Optimus Prime figure that transforms itself. Hasbro announced the high-tech robotics toy at Hasbro Pulse Fan Fest, the company showcase of its upcoming lineup. The Optimus Prime Auto-Converting Programmable Advanced Robot - Collector's Edition is available to preorder for $700. It's estimated to ship on August 2.
The collectible is the result of a partnership with Robosen Robotics. Hasbro says the Optimus Prime can automatically convert between vehicle and robot form, race in its vehicle form, walk in its robot form, and respond to control commands by voice or mobile app. It will respond to voice commands like "Roll Out," "Convert," and "Attack." It also features programmable tools for you to make your own functionality.
The figure measures 19 inches tall when in robot form and includes a rechargeable lithium-ion battery. Plus, it is still a toy after all, so it comes with a battle axe and blaster, along with a charging cable and travel case. It's based on the G1 (original) Optimus Prime look.Continue Reading at GameSpot
The developers of The Hunter: Call of the Wild recently introduced new DLC that brings a hunting dog to the game for the first time. Hunting dogs have been used for a very long time to track down animals and recover them, and for support and companionship in the field. The history of humans and dogs working together goes back thousands of years, in fact.
Dogs were one of the most-requested features from players, and now they're in the game as part of a $4 Bloodhound DLC pack for the PC and console hunting game, which has millions of players.
We recently had the chance to speak to developer Expansive Worlds about the Bloodhound DLC and more. Game designer Arshak Ardeshir explained to us where the idea came from, if the dog can die (a bleak question, we know), and if more dogs might come to the game in the future.Continue Reading at GameSpot
Earl Simmons, best known by the name DMX--short for Dark Man X--has died at the age of 50 from a heart attack. His family confirmed the passing Friday morning after a string of false reports circulated across social media Thursday night, with even his manager taking to Instagram to confirm he was still alive at the time.
DMX, a founding member of the Ruff Ryders clique, had a string of number one albums in the late 1990s and early 2000s. His songs "Ruff Ryder's Anthem" and "How It's Goin' Down" were monster hits as part of his debut album It's Dark and Hell Is Hot.
That album would go on to sell 251,000 copies within its first week of release. Following that, he released his best-selling album, ... And Then There Was X, in 1999, which included the hit single "Party Up (Up in Here)". His 2003 singles "Where the Hood At?" and "X Gon' Give It to Ya" were also some of his most popular.Continue Reading at GameSpot

During Hasbro Pulse Fan Fest, new Power Rangers figures from the Lightning Collection were revealed. And one of the coolest-looking figures revealed was none other than the Tyrannosaurus Sentry.
Arriving in stores on September 1, 2021, the six inch Tyrannosaurus Sentry figure features more than 20 points of articulation, so you can put your Ranger in various poses. It also comes with a bladed staff, blast effect piece, and an extra pair of hands. Like the rest of the Lightning Collection, it comes in branded packaging, showing the figure off. Check out some images below.Gallery
The Tyrannosaurus Sentry comes straight from the Boom Studios comic book series. Inspired by the look of the Red Ranger, the Tyrannosaurus Sentry serves as the elite guard to Lord Drakkon--an evil version of Green Ranger Tommy from an alternate universe. Seriously though, go read the comic Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Shattered Grid. It is excellent.Continue Reading at GameSpot
Developer People Can Fly's upcoming update for Outriders came as a shock to players. The studio announced it will nerf some class abilities, particularly bullet skills. This change got the community talking, with some blaming livestreamers and YouTubers for allegedly "ruining games" by solo-ing all the endgame content.
Next week, the Technomancer and Trickster's bullet-based skills--Blighted Rounds and Twisted Rounds, respectively--will be modified so they are less exploitable. This includes things like increasing cooldown timers and reducing damage buffs. As a result of these nerfs, the Outriders subreddit lit up with criticism. A few pointed fingers at content creators, particularly livestreamers and YouTubers, whose entire livelihood hinges on attaching themselves to a game and making videos about it.
"Dear PCF, no life streamers [sic] DO NOT represent us or our progress," Reddit user _superchan wrote. "Nerfing builds is a TERRIBLE idea."Continue Reading at GameSpot
Fleabag creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge has been tapped to co-star alongside Harrison Ford in the upcoming fifth installment of the Indiana Jones franchise, according to a release. Indiana Jones 5, which doesn't yet have an official title, will hit theaters July 29, 2022.
"I'm thrilled to be starting a new adventure, collaborating with a dream team of all-time great filmmakers," said the film's director, James Mangold (Ford v Ferrari, Logan). "Steven, Harrison, Kathy, Frank, and John are all artistic heroes of mine. When you add Phoebe, a dazzling actor, brilliant creative voice, and the chemistry she will undoubtedly bring to our set, I can't help but feel as lucky as Indiana Jones himself."
This is a bit of encouraging news for the movie, which recently lost its writer in June 2020 after director Steven Spielberg reduced his role to instead be a producer May 2020. All that's known about this new entry is it will not be a reboot or reimagining--this upcoming film will function as a direct sequel to 2008's Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. And despite Spielberg's more limited role, the release indicates that John Williams will be returning to score the film, "continuing a musical legacy which began 40 years ago with Raiders of the Lost Ark," so it should at least sound like Indy.Continue Reading at GameSpot
Justice League screenwriter Chris Terrio has spoken out about his thoughts on the theatrical cut and the Oscar-winning writer does not mince words when it comes to how he feels about the 2017 feature.
"The 2017 theatrical cut was an act of vandalism," Terrio told Vanity Fair. "Zack [Snyder] may be too much of a gentleman to say that, but I'm not."
Terrio initially joined the DC Universe to rewrite an existing Batman v Superman script because its Batman, actor Ben Affleck, was worried about the project. "I think the studio brought me in to appease Ben Affleck, because they thought, 'Okay, well, we have this movie star who is reluctant about doing this, so why don't we bring in his guy?'"Continue Reading at GameSpot

Samsung is reportedly in the process of ordering millions of OLED panels from its consumer electronics rival, LG. The panels will be used in Samsung's first line of OLED TVs as it continues to move away from LCD.
Three individual reports, collected by The Verge, indicate that Samsung has planned to receive close to 1 million OLED panels in the second half of 2021, with an additional 4 million next year. The move comes as Samsung continues to move away from LCD panels, a plan that was delayed somewhat by the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic last year. These panels are being supplied by LG Display, which also provides panels to LG Electronics, Sony, Vizio, Hisense, and Panasonic for their OLED products.
This signals a significant change in Samsung's plans to continue refining its LCD-based QLED technology and compete with LG in the consumer TV market space. Samsung is reportedly experimenting with its own Quantum Dot-infused OLED panels, but it might be some time until they reach the market. An in-house test of the panels earlier this year reportedly concluded with the fact that the panels were too dim--a common problem with OLED panels that LG has been improving with each new iteration.Continue Reading at GameSpot
HBO Max has given the green light to an unscripted competition series with the working title The Real Magic Mike, according to a release. The reality series is currently conducting a nationwide casting search, and is expected to debut on the streaming service later this year.
As the name suggests, the series is a spiritual companion to the 2012 film Magic Mike and its 2015 sequel Magic Mike XXL--both loosely based on the experiences of actor Channing Tatum, who was an 18-year-old stripper in Tampa, Florida. So, it's only appropriate that Tatum and the producers behind the Magic Mike franchise are bringing about "an exhilarating and sexy series that will transform a group of men into real-life Magic Mikes."
The show will feature "10 men who have 'lost their magic'" as they "bare their souls… evolve their bodies, learn to perform spectacular routines, and develop a new level of self-confidence." Although casting is not yet even complete and it's unknown who will star, the release promises that "as [these contestants] strip off their clothes, they will rid themselves of emotional baggage and regain their mojo."Continue Reading at GameSpot
